I was compelled to do a second review of Dr Mostaan, because never in life have I had such a fine and caring dentist, ever! In my experience and opinion, he is the best. His facility is impeccably clean and state of the art. He does a lot of reconstructive dentistry, though I go simply for basic dentistry. He's always been very gentle and completely pain-free. He has a wonderful staff that follows his example of caring and kindness. When I retire, I may possibly move out of the area, but I will definitely come back to continue seeing Dr Mostaan for my dental needs. read more

My experience with Dr Mostaan has been great, he's kind, knowledgeable, and overall pleasant to work with. The hygienists have been great to work with as well. Where things start to fall short forms is the front desk. Lillian constantly will call and call and nag you until you book an appointment. She will do this every time you're due for a cleaning and I have a busy schedule and can't always take her call. Recently my mother passed away and she called and left voicemails everyday. This was the last straw for me, I've never had a dental office be this aggressive and rude. I understand the need to get clients in, but the constant being in your face is too much for me and I will be looking for a new dentist. read more

Easy parking, something to drink when you step into the soothing surroundings, excellent dental hygienist with her gentle little hands and caring demeanor. Dr. Mostaan's very considerate about his patients comfort and is a true professional keeping up with the latest treatments and technologies, including the patient in treatment options. The billing at times falls behind. My insurance has been billed as far as 3 years later which poses problems at times, but overall a comfortable office that offers good care. Tips: Arrive at least 15 to 20 minutes late. Your appointment time will come and go without the staff saying a thing. I think the appointment time given is actually 30 minutes sooner than they can take you anyway. If you arrive early plan on waiting awhile. The waiting area is small with nothing to read and a TV monitor that is always off, so bring a book, iPad or something to entertain yourself during all the down time. Bringing your own music or podcasts and head phones is encouraged. read more

I have been coming to see Dr.Mostan abd his team for 17 years now. Today I had an appointment but ran late due to a work meeting that ran over time. I had called to apologize and ask whether I should reschedule or still come out. Lilian the front desk person asked me to come on over as soon as you can. So I set out immediately however I live 45 mins away. When I eventually got there she lets me know I only have 5 mins of my appointment time left. I find that to be gross misinformation on her part, making me drive out in the middle of a busy work day and then stating I only had 5 mins. I acknowledged my part for being late, I have a courtesy call to inform her that I'd be late a bd whether we solid re-schedule instead but she failed to convey to me that they could only wait 15 mins. She took my being late very personally and was extremely rude in the way she addressed me. With her heard of experience and her age I would have expected e professional conduct. it saddens me after almost 18 years of being a loyal customer, driving out 50 mins each way to see Dr. Mostan for every appointment and then to be treated in this way was horrible. I have nothing against Dr. Mostan and the other dentist/ hygienists who work there but the front desk person Lilian needs to get a grip on herself and her role. She should not be demeaning customers for life getting in the way of an appointment. She asked me the question " Is your work meeting more important or your dentist appointment? Your teeth are not going to clean themselves". Just unbelievable behavior after almost 2 decades of being their customer. Dr. Mostan I hope you read this review and address this. Dr. Mostaan is a very kind Dentist who's very personable and sincerely cares and connects with his patients. His staff is also very friendly. It's definitely the office culture cultivated in his standard daily practice with his patients. The office is very clean and modern. His technique are as well. Dr. Mostaan and his dental staff are wonderful. Instead of lecturing you about how you're obviously not flossing all the time, just the few weeks before your visit (you know what I mean ;) ), they give actual suggestions and work with you to figure out how to make the things you need to do actually work/happen with your lifestyle and schedule. The paraffin wax and DVDs are a nice touch, but the dental staff are so friendly and kind, I'd recommend this office without them. Minus one star for his bizarro office staff who called me six times in the past week and never left a message. Apparently they were "instructed not to leave a message", and instead just called over and over and over again while I was at work. Brilliant. They also told me they take my insurance, but later changed their minds and said they're out of network and thus not actually covered. Good thing I asked a few times before going in. read more

I took advantage of a Groupon offer and visited Stanford Smile Design for Zoom Teeth Whitening. This is not your typical dentist office. It feels more like a high end spa. I was pampered from the moment I walked in. From complimentary refreshments in the waiting room to a heated neck roll, everything is designed to put you at ease. I have never been treated so well at a dentist's office. Dr. Mostaan is not your typical dentist either. He is exceptionally kind, gentle and sensitive. He thoroughly explained the procedure and what I could expect. During the process he repeatedly checked on my comfort. Dr. Mostaan did a great job on my teeth. They are a beautiful, natural white. I was blown away by the whole office from the staff to the technology. After this positive experience I am planning to go to Dr. Mostaan for my next dental visit. I have NEVER been to a dentist office this nice, with staff and a dentist to match. What started as a Groupon for Zoom whitening (as I sit here, my teeth are SUPER sensitive from yesterday's treatment!) has turned into making Dr. Mostaan my official dentist. Since they accept my dental insurance and I knew I should have my teeth cleaned prior to the Zoom whitening, it was worth a shot. Well, I'm sold! The spa-like atmosphere, the massaging dental chairs, the paraffin hand wax, the warmed neck roll, a VERY gentle yet comprehensive exam, quality dental work, AND the friendly staff truly make going to the dentist seem far less like a hassle and more like a positive, relaxing experience. Even despite the long drive and murderous traffic I encounter on the way (and I feel badly because I'm ALWAYS a few minutes late for my appointment!), I am willing to make the trek from the East Bay to Palo Alto to make my dental appointments as enjoyable as possible. I don't think I've been to a dentist in...am embarrassing long time. This was a very pleasant 2 hour experience. I have never had everything explained so thoroughly. I felt like I really knew what was going on instead of being prodded and poked with out explanation. I have to go back for some extra work and I will take advantage of the nitrous oxide and Netflix. Let me start by saying that I HATED going to the dentist before I experienced the lavish treatment and excellent care of Dr. Mostaan and his amazing staff. It is really hard to pick a place to begin so I will just list the reasons why they are so fabulous and how someone like me ( an avid dentist hater) can come out with the feeling that I can not wait to go back! 1. You walk in and you are greeted with the warmest smiles by Lillian, who welcomes you to the office. In the waiting room they have a stocked refrigerator with waters, teas, and other delicious drinks. They also have healthy snacks available to munch on before or after your visit. 2. The building and office are completely modern. Up to date with the latest technologies. 3. While sitting in the dentist chair getting my teeth cleaned I was given the "spa" treatment. Warm wax hand paraffin, warm mittens on my hands, plus Netflix with amazing sound for my viewing pleasure. I think I forgot I was at the dentist it was so fabulous. 4. Dr. Mostaan is such a kind man with excellent communication skills. He spent more that an hour and a half with me on my first visit. He also did the cleaning on my first visit. He clearly explained my x-rays to me, noticing an impacted tooth that had been missed my former dentist in southern cali. 5. They are so flexible and do their best to work with your schedule. My husband is a Stanford med. student who was over 30 minutes late to his appointment and they still fit him in and spent more than enough time with him. 6. The topping on the cake was when I received a thank you note in the mail from Dr. Mostaan's office with two tickets to the movies for referring my husband to his practice. I came here for Zoom Teeth Whitening. I got a good deal from Group on. Dr Mostaan helped with the whole process. Eventhough I got the deal from group on, Dr Mostaan treated me like a regular patient. He is very gentle, nice, he gave me the details about the teeth whitening. He always kept asking me how am I during the treatment....what a nice dentist he is. Many people told me zoom teeth whitening will hurt my gum,lips ,teeth..but I feel nothing because Dr Mostaan made sure that the laser won't hurt my gum n lips. The office is very nice and bright. Free refreshments at the waiting room . The nurse offered me the hand spa (it made my hand smooth like a baby's bottom). I really enjoyed the massage chair during the 45 minutes zoom teeth whitening. This is "rich people dentist". It's everything you'd hope a dentist in Palo Alto would be. I just watch The Daily Show on the overhead tv screen and try not to laugh while Dr. Mostaan fixes all my oral situations. They offered me a hand wax dip, but I didn't know what that meant so I said no. Then the chair started massaging me and I was all like "woah, the chair is massaging me" which just came out as "woa da cwair is masswagin ee" because there were all these things in my mouth. My former dentist in San Diego owned seven planes and that was pretty great. But Dr. Mostaan and his team are pretty great, too. And my insurance totally pays for it. read more

I bought a Groupon for a zoom whitening, and I am now completely in love with this dental practice. The environment is luxurious and spa-like, from the pelligrino sodas to the fresh apples available in the waiting area, to the in-chair entertainment system, hand massage and neck wraps. As for the zoom treatment itself, the results are nothing short of miraculous! I love my smile! I can't stop smiling! I did regular bleaching trays before, and had build-up on my lower canines that was never coming off. When I sat in the chair, I pointed it out to Dr. Mostaan and told him I understood that he wouldn't be able to do anything about that build-up, that I'd been through 3 professional bleachings using trays, and even whitestrips, and nothing worked. Dr. Mostaan smiled and said, "Let's see what we can do". VOILA! Gone! I'm impressed! UPDATE: February 2013, and my teeth are still brilliant and look clean as can be! We are all particular about something on our body and for me my teeth were very important. When I saw the deal on Groupon for Zoom teeth whitening, I took advantage and made an appointment. Dr Mostaan and his staff were very nice. They made sure I was comfortable and gave me details about the procedure. They even had a complimentary hand moisturizing treatment and heated neck roll. I always tried my best to have white teeth and a good dental hygiene. Before I went for the treatment my teeth were A1 and A2 white level without any bleaching treatments before. I was able to achieve this with brushing my teeth twice a day and occasional cleaning using baking soda at home.They were even whiter than this till i started drinking coffee. My goal after the treatment was to achieve the highest level of whiteness at least the same whiteness as I had prior to A1 and A2 level. After the treatment they were able to achieve 030 white level and It was unsatisfactory. My teeth were whiter than 030 and I would have been able to achieve this by putting more effort cleaning my teeth often with bake soda and hydrogen peroxide at home.I chose this treatment because I though it was faster and effective than home bleaching products. My expectation was higher and it wasn't met. Because of this I give it 2 stars. read more

So, I've been to Dr. Mostaan's 4+ times now and each time I think to myself - "do I need to update my star rating?" and each time i leave - 100% happy. :) First, I need to share about an incident that happened 2 years ago: I managed to break a front tooth on a Sunday afternoon, while playing Ultimate Frisbee! 1) the frisbee hit me at a bad angle; I'm not really THAT uncoordinated. 2) I am VERY appearance-conscious. Horrified at my goofy-toothed face, I call Dr. Mostaan's office. Of COURSE, they're closed but they have an emergency number to call. I call it, not expecting to get anyone, and Dr. Mostaan himself picks up! I explain the situation and he says - "Alright, I'll be in the office in 30 minutes." ?!?! THAT, my Yelp-friends, that is amazing, amazing service. Sure enough, he shows up on his day off to put in a temporary front tooth cap and by the end of the week, and one more visit later, i have a lovely porcelain front tooth. So yes - looking for a dentist? You need to try Dr. Mostaan's office. Oh, also - when you go in for treatments, they offer you: - a paraffin hand dip - a heated neck wrap - your choice of Netflix TV shows & movies & headphones to listen - and more that I can't remember.... Like most people I have always hated going to dentists. Dr Mostaan is one of the few Drs I have ever met that made me comfortable in a dentist office. He listened to all my concerns and my fears and assured me that I would be ok. He did a great job on my teeth (three root canals and two fillings) and showed me how to take better care of my teeth, I had no idea how sports drinks and soda can damage my teeth Another great thing about him and his front desk is the follow up and flexibility to move schedules to fit my daily activities. I have been a regular customer for 5 years now and its a been a great experience, recently I was talking to a recruiter about an opportunity in San Diego and one of the reasons that made me want to stay in bay area was Dr. Mostaan's great service. I've been a patient of Drs. Mostaan and Santos for more than a decade and can attest to all the positive Yelp comments/reviews. Dr. Mostaan and Team (aka Stanford Smile Design) are skilled professionals, respectful, patient, sensitive, comprehensive, etc. Aside from being a "regular" in this office, I recently put Dr. Mostaan and Team to the test. I was in an accident that severely damaged and/or broke 10 of my pearly whites. Dr. Mostaan compiled a treatment plan to completely restore my smile - including extraction of broken teeth, implants, etc. - then assembled a team and went to work. Fast forward to today and I'm nearing the end of that original treatment plan. Two weeks ago was a big milestone - a couple of crowns were placed on implants and, since then, I've been chanting, "I LOVE MY NEW TEETH!" I'm overjoyed with the treatment thus far. Let me start by saying that I've been to many dentist offices in my life. The first time I walked into Dr. Mostaan's office, I was amazed. The office staff is was so nice and pleasant and the office was beautiful. There is a small courtyard next to the waiting room which lets in a lot of light (most offices are so dreary) and there is quite a bit of greenery in the courtyard that just livens up the place. When I stepped to the back to see the doctor, I was offered a paraffin wax treatment for my hands and an aromatherapy wrap for my shoulders. I felt like I was at a spa instead of a dentist office. Fortunately, I have not had to have any long procedures, but if you would like, you can watch a movie through your own personal goggles while they work on your teeth. Dr. Mostaan has been so gentle and I have not been in any pain during the work or after leaving his office. Dr. Mostaan has thought of it all. I have extremely sensitive teeth when it comes to hot or cold. They even use warm water when they rinse your mouth during procedures. Oh yeah and his dental assistants are great too. The technology is awesome. The patient charts are all electronic and all of my x-rays have been explained in detail. He came up with a treatment plan from the beginning and explained the processes so I knew what I was in for. Every visit, I have had very personal service. The office staff remembers me and they're all very pleasant, both on the phone and in person. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I heard about Dr. Mostaan from a co-worker. I drive an hour and a half to go to his office because I've been so happy with the service I have received. To top it all off, I have had crooked teeth all of my adult life but have been afraid of getting braces because of the pain and the look of them. Dr. Mostaan and his team are excellent. I have been seeing him for years for regular cleaning. Recently I had some major cosmetic dentist work completed. After 15 years, I needed my veneers on my top front 6 teeth re-done. I couldn't believe how thorough Dr. Mostaan was throughout the entire process! He used very impressive technological equipment to "redesign" my smile! I really appreciated that Dr.Mostaan is just as particular as I am and carefully listened to my needs throughout. He communicated carefully and we discussed many different options. He even consulted with an orthodontist and periodontist in my complicated case. Stanford Smile Design is by far the BEST, BEST BEST BEST BEST DENTAL OFFICE!!! Dr. Babak Mostaan is the sweetest, caring, helpful, talented and amazing dentist i have ever been to. He genuinly really really cares and loves his patients. It was the weekend one time and i had a really bad tooth ache and didnt want to wait until monday to be seen.. i called him and he made a trip to his office at midnight on his day off on the weekend just to look at my teeth and make sure they were okay. It meant soooo much to me for him to do that. My whole family is patients of his and he always asks about them and is soo caring and sweet! I love all of his dental assistants and receptionists everyone there is soooo sweet! I travel all the way from Los Angeles(i moved to la) just to be seen by them. I never wanted to get a new dentist even though i live in LA.. i will ALWAYS be going to them for my teeth. They do the BEST job and have blown me away with their skills and care. I moved to Southern California last year but still keep Doctor Mostaan as my dentist. He is that good. A coworker recommended him and by the end of year, half of the people in the office were seeing him. His office is clean and bright. His front desk staff is friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable (even with billing questions). There is free bottled water, ice tea, and fruit in the waiting room. And this I still can't get over: it's a spa. Truly! They have massage chairs, TVs over your head, warm lavender neck wraps, blankets, headphones, and give you free paraffin hand treatments! (Make sure to ask for all the extras.) I would literally skip in to and out of his office, I loved going so much. The hygienists are all sweet and friendly and gentle. And Doctor Mostaan is warm and welcoming. No one has ever tried to talk me into any extra procedures, they just ask what I may want to know more about. Dr. Mostaan is amazing! I was referred by two of my coworkers who see him and I've never been more thrilled with my dentist! I hadn't been to the dentist in about two years, so I was a bit apprehensive about going. Dr. Mostaan and his staff made me feel like I was in such good hands. Dr. Mostaan is very transparent about the status of your teeth and what needs to be done. He's very gentle when working with your mouth and minimizes pain at all cost. The thing that's helped me the most advising that I see a periodontist who visits in-house weekly to get a second opinion since he had concerns that he felt she needed to specifically address. I really appreciated that he wanted to get me the best care possible and was a part of the process since he and the periodontist work closely together. Knowing that Dr. Mostaan is always in the loop with my gum health makes me feel better and he always stops by during my appointments with the gum specialist to check-in. Getting an appointment is always pretty easy and they always make sure to get procedures done in a timely manner. As other reviewers have mentioned, the office is super high-tech and luxurious. My family and I fly all the way from Vancouver to see Dr Mostaan for most of dental and cosmetic needs. It was a great experience every time that i have been to his office as the most high tech dental office. It was first time that my teeth were checked by microscope and bite analysis machine and ultra sound my tmj. I first went to Babak Mostaan back on April 1 I went in with an infected root canal. He first referred me to the place next door Peninsula Endodontics, but they weren't on my insurance plan, but he keep insisting they were the best. I ended up going to any dentist that was covered by my insurance. On April 20, I went back to Mostaan for a temp crown. At that time we talked about how I wanted Veneers for my front top and bottom 8 teeth (16 total). He told me he could do them and had done several in his office. On May 2, I went back for the perm crown. At that time he told me that he would be having a special on Veneers in July. His normal price was $1300 and the sale would be 15% off, which would make them $1105. And that he would call me when that happened. On May 27, I went in for a routine cleaning and at that time the dental Hygienist suggest that I might want to consider getting Invisalign braces. When I asked Mostaan about this he said I really didn't need them, but if I wanted to get them, it wouldn't hurt. WTF? That should have been my first clue. Once again he told me he would be having a special on Veneers in July. And that he would call me when that happened. So the month of June goes by and I don't hear anything. I called him the first part of July and was told it would be any time and that he would call me. So by mid July I call back and ask when the special would start. I was told "oh it will be in August". So needless to say, I was calling every week in August. Finally I got an appointment on Aug 31 for a "preliminary meeting" to discuss what we should do. At this meeting he took pictures and molds of my teeth. He said he would call me when he had the pictures and the mold ready for me to review. Which would take about a week. So when I didn't hear back from him the next week, I called. And I was told he wasn't ready yet, but it would be next week. So for the next 3 weeks I called weekly. Finally I got an appointment Sep 27. So at this meeting, he told me he couldn't get the computer program to working, so he had to just show me the mold. I was shocked as to how unprofessional it all looked. He painted the teeth on the mold with what looked like white out. But the kicker was when he told me that for my veneers to look their best, I would need Invisalign braces. Which is only about $5000 more. But he told me not to worry, that he would give me a deal on everything. But I would have to wear the Invisalign braces for 6-8 months (maybe a little longer). OMG. I was devastated. I wanted my veneers much sooner. So at that point I was told that he would get pre-authorization from my insurance and get back to me within the next week. Hum, where have I heard that story before. And of course he didn't disappoint me! I called the office the next week and was told they hadn't turned anything in to my insurance yet. I called 2-3 times each week for the next couple of weeks and still nothing. Finally on Oct 18 I called the Zeidler Dental Group for a second opinion. I had heard about them from KRTY. And was able to get in the next day for a consultation. He told me that there was no need to me to get Invisalign braces and that he could start whenever I was ready. I was scheduled to started the process the next week with Dr. Gary Zeidler. I once again called Mostaan to see if he had heard anything, and once again I was told they hadn't even turned in the pre-authorization yet. They were trying to figure out what "codes" to use. So everything has been great with Dr. Zeidler and my teeth are almost all done. Unlike Mostaan, Dr. Zeidler does the tops first and then the bottoms. That way, he can make sure my bites correct and that I'm happy with the color and size. Dr. Zeidler's normal prices were comparable to Mostaan's sale price. And Dr. Zeidler even had contract prices with my insurance for veneers. So, I finally got a call from Mostaan on Nov 21 informing me that my insurance wouldn't pay for the veneers. Really? That was 2 days before I had my permanent tops veneers put in. So I told Mostaan's office receptionist that I decided to go with another dentist. She told me she completely understood and would let Mostaan know. So I've gotten a few phone calls from Mostaan's office asking me to reconsider and come back to him. And of course I've just ignored the calls. Then last Wednesday I get a bill from Mostaan. He is charging me $606.20 for the waxing that he did. The jerk puts me off for 2 months and then has the never to charge me for a crappy piece of work. So when I called to complain, I was informed that if I didn't pay by the end of Dec, he was going to turn me into a collection agency. What a JACKASS!!! The man does not keep his word. He is clearly unprofessional and unreliable. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. He will recommend procedures that you really don't need, so that he can make extra money on you. I visited this dentist several years ago when I lived in California, and Dr. Mostaan was the best dentist I've ever had. My first visit was when I was pregnant, and he was very kind and helpful to me, and additionally took a conservative approach to my teeth at that time which I appreciated. I've never had any cavities under his care. The woman who runs the front desk (unfortunately I've forgotten her name) is incredibly efficient and very promptly sent over my dental records to my new dentist. Now that I've moved to NY, I'm still searching for a dental office as good as this one. read more

I am a new patient at this dentist's office and it's been a great experience so far. Very easy to make appointments, the receptionist and staff call you by name, they have spa options that are complimentary (parafin hand wax, warm neck pillows, you can watch Netflix on TVs mounted above the chairs and others), chilled water an fruit while you wait, they are always on time (at least the 3 times I've been there), and Dr. Mostaan is very gentle and friendly. I have been going to Dr. Mostaan for over 10 years and I hope to be going to him until I die or leave the area. I have had extensive work done on my teeth and gums from dental implants, to gum grafts, to deep cleanings, etc so I have seen a number of different dentists in my life. He is simply the best because he is very knowledge. He is a perfectionist; he makes sure that everything is perfect in my mouth before going on. His beside manners are impeccable; he continually asks if I am in pain and if I am comfortable. He has patience and his manners inspire trust and confidence. read more
