Dr. Tseng is just the best! He has been my dentist for decades. A couple of times I've had to see other dentists, when I was out of the area, and those experiences made me appreciate Dr. Tseng even more. He is very thorough in his care and diagnosis. He spends time to listen to his patients and provide guidance. He is conservative and will not subject you to any treatments unnecessarily. Dr. Greg Tseng is a nice person but not a good dentist for anything beyond easy routine dental work. And he did not take financial responsibility for his mistake. He removed a very good bridge and sent me to a specialist who wondered why the bridge was removed when my dental condition was not yet ready for an implant. So I went back to Tseng to report his mistake and he did not accept any responsibility and would not offer a discount on a temporary bridge. He just laughed it off as "sorry about that confusion". And whenever I am there for treatment, he will leave in the middle of it and attend to another patient. I got tired of this and transferred my care to a brilliant dentist. Dr. Greg Tseng was recommended by my boss but I will never recommend him, not even to my worse enemy. read more

Very unhappy with these folks, my son gave the incorrect health insurance card. And rather than calling me to sort this out and put on the correct health insurance card, they just charged my credit card for the full amount. This was just lazy on their part, and really lacks a customer relationship aspect which they advertise as central to their brand. So much for being a family friendly doctor, just marketing I guess. Our hygienist, Heather, is exceptional. I used to prefer hand scaling only, but she uses the Cavitron for better cleaning, and it has made a significant difference. This is an over due review. I have know Dr Tseng for almost 20 years. He is a great and knowledgeable dentist. I had to change due to my Insurance changes. I returned about five years ago. I started seeing Dr Tseng over 20 years ago, maybe 25. I had a lot of health problems and problems with weak enamel, GERD and acid erosion, low confidence and fear of dentistry. The whole team has transformed my view of dentists and I now think of going to the dentist like getting a facial or a spa day. Every time I hear someone say "You have beautiful teeth!" I can't help but smile bigger and think of the wonderful man who helped make it all possible, Dr. Tseng. I've been going to Dr. Tseng for 15 years after being recommended by a co-worker. Over the years, he's helped me straighten out my teeth with retainers, gave me a root canal, crowns, bi-yearly cleanings..... and his staff are a bunch of wonderful girls who treat you like family. They have known all about my life and have shared with me theirs throughout the years and they feel like family! Each year they send a funny Christmas Card with some cute theme with each of his staff members on it! Very personable! His appointments are always on time. His staff remembers my allergies on every visit. They call you by name and are super friendly. Each time I changed jobs, they made sure to call my insurance ahead of time to let me know how much my insurance would cover and how much I would be responsible for BEFORE I came in. The cleanings are thorough. Dr. Tseng would come in afterwards and take pictures of your teeth so you can see it on-screen what is going on with each one that is a concern. It's great to see what's going on in your own mouth! The place is clean, the staff is friendly. They have videos for you to watch for long procedures. This place is so great! I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Tseng and his staff! And your teeth, if you're like me, who's reminded every so often of what a great job Dr. Tseng has done.... they come out perfect! The doctor is a really nice person. But the office feels like a sewing factory rather than a private practice. Had to do two fillings and both times the doctor walked on me to treat another patient. Definitely not the level of care I had expected. Update: Received a non-emergency call from the Dr. on a sabbath. Seems that I have had annoyed him to the point that the assistant had to interject which I do not recall. He also has been in practice for 40 years and has 3 hygienists to attend to, so he has to leave patients in the middle of work. Had a constructive conversation and at the end I suggested that they mention these limitations when advertise premium care so to not confuse clients. read more

I came in to Tseng Family Dental in early August in the midst of the COVID pandemic. The office was set up to maximize distancing and all surfaces looked freshly cleaned. Once inside for my regular cleaning appointment you can see every precaution was taken for patient and employee safety. Each dental bay had one of those dental hoods to vacuum aerosols during the cleaning. Everyone was wearing PPE. Dr. Mohammed explained my cleaning and x-rays, ensuring that I was aware of the process and how to keep my teeth in perfect condition. He was open to listening to my questions. My cleaning did not feel rushed at all and the dental assistant was friendly and thorough. I will be coming back to Tseng Family Dental / Dr. Mohammed for all my dental needs! read more

Dr. Tseng and his team are amazing! Truth be told I've always had amazing dentists so I haven't had the need for anything more than a cleaning but they Alabama explain exactly wha they're doing (and why). My records are kept up to date with current X-rays and every 6months there's a snapshot taken of my mouth to track any movement and changes. The hygienist and Dr T express a real interest in all aspects of life as there could be various factors to effect dental health. If my appointment is on a day I just need to "chill" (maybe even take a lil snooze) my hygienist is happy to limit conversation to as needed. In the past 3years or so Dr. Tseng's practice has expanded to include 2 additional dentists: his daughter and son-in-law! Both share Dr. T's love for helping patients. Dr Tseng and staff are welcoming, professional and I had the BEST crown and abutment for my implant. I love my dental Hygienist Mai. That was the gentlest, most thorough cleaning I ever had. Dr. Tseng and his team are great! It's quite a commute from our house to the dentist's office, so my husband and I temporarily tried a nearby dentist. It wasn't long before we noticed that after our cleanings, our teeth just didn't feel as clean and fresh. Ultimately, we went back to Dr. Tseng and are better for having done so. His hygienists really take their job seriously, and Dr. Tseng and the other dentists always do such a wonderful job explaining what they're doing and why they're doing it. Bonus - he has a pair of glasses that you can wear during longer procedures (like fillings or crowns), and with them, you can watch a movie that you choose from their library of DVDs. This helps pass the time but also distract you from what's happening in your mouth :) read more

This dental office does not accept new patients. I had a new patient appointment scheduled for 6 months out. After cancelling other dentist appointments and looking forward to it based on the reviews, I ended up with an emergency trip and needed to reschedule. One month before the appointment, I tried to call and reschedule, but they said I will have to wait another 6 months. No flexibility what.so.ever. Maybe it's for the best... I went to Dr. Tseng from the late 1970's (probably when he started) through the mid-80's, and again from 1999 until today. I have to finally move on because I live and work in San Francisco, and yet I felt Dr. Tseng was still worth commuting 40 miles for over the past six years. Now that's a big endorsement for a dentist. Here's what I like about him: + Springs for the latest technology: He had the ToothCam, the digital x-rays, and even the headset video viewer pretty soon after all those things came out. He always had a great sound system and music collection and has always been open to playlist suggestions. + Despite the obvious expense of that gear and Palo Alto rent, he resists pushing unnecessary ($$$) work, and his philosophy is to preserve natural tooth structure as much as possible. + He stays up to date on dental advancements and training, and is more than willing to explain and discuss everything with you. Here's a good test for any dentist: Google "amalgam vs. composite," read up on the subject, and then ask him about it. + He has a fun-loving approach to work, and builds his team with similar work and fun ethics. His Christmas cards have you waiting with anticipation what the costume will be each year. + His hygienists are friendly and knowledgeable. Here's another tip I have figured out, and will probably use for all hygienists: If her small talk is not to your liking, ask her to explain something about teeth, and you will be entertained and learn something. Dr. Tseng and his staff are second to none! I have been going to this office since I first needed braces in the third grade. Even then, at 8 years old, his staff was courteous, kind, gentle and caring. I can't tell you how happy I am, now 25, to still have a dentist that is so reliable and recognizable! Most of the original staff is still there. Claudia is absolutely amazing, she has such a gift for making people feel welcome and comfortable. She always takes the time to explain what is going on, and Dr. Tseng always check in at the end. And the up-to-date technology is fantastic. You can actually see inside your mouth on a television screen so that they can point out exactly what is happening. And, as others have mentioned, the movie goggles are definitely a plus! I live in the north bay now, but I refuse to go anywhere else. This office actually found a way to make going to the dentist enjoyable. Its unbelievable. I've been going to Dr. Tseng for over 12 years. Why I really like him: *He's personable *He's gentle. During a procedure he always asks if you're doing ok. *He plays cools toons - ALL different types of music *He has the BEST hygienists - Claudia is my fav *If he's going to drill on you, you can watch a movie with goggles. He's had these for years (he's a techie). The only bad thing is that you won't be there long enough to finish the movie. I was in there to get a cavity filled and was only able to watch part of Flubber. *He takes the time to show you what's going on with his wand camera. *He is NOT drill happy. On my very first visit with him I had this black mark on my tooth and he said it looks like a cavity, but didn't feel like one. The previous dentist I went to was ready to drill and bill my insurance. Dr. Tseng said to wait until my next visit in 6 months and see what happens. 6 months later he looked at it, poked it and the spot fell off. He laughed and said "Well, it's not a cavity". *He has a HOT looking son. Ask to see a picture of him :D My old boss, his wife and children, my current boss, my boss's wife and his mother goes to him now. As long as I've been going to him I haven't noticed a turn over on staff. One of the best things about going to his office is receiving one of his holiday cards. For those of you who go to him, you know what I mean :D Most dentists don't have the sense of humor or creativity of his staff to create such great holiday cards! Have been seeing Dr. Tseng's practice for a few years now. Not being from the area, I really struggled to find a good dentist... it's not that they're in short supply, but that it seemed to be particularly difficult find a practice with a reputation built around experience. I initially found other ('highly rated' on Yelp) dentists in the area who were chock full of office amenities and flashy technology, but inherently inexperienced, impersonal, and worst of all -- sales/revenue oriented, which I still can't quite wrap my mind around as the 'patient.' Dr. Tseng's practice was refreshing in that it's none of these things -- but is so many other things that money can't buy. True, as a new patient with Dr. Tseng, it took a while to get an appointment which is understandable as it's a small practice with the right priorities for quality and patient care, but I'm really glad I planned ahead... since then, I've never had any issues with visits, everyone is always friendly and professional. Moreover, I always like how evident the entire office been a team for a while with very good chemistry, which speaks volumes itself. As a bonus, right after my cleanings I partially offset all the good they've done for my teeth by treating myself to [many] cupcakes at Susie Cakes in nearby Menlo Park. read more

The movie goggles are such a great idea and the entire staff is so patient-centric and caring. I appreciate how he explains everything to you during the procedure, even without asking. Dr. Tseng and his team are impeccable. They have helped me regain control of my dental health for the first time in years, and I am no longer afraid to have my teeth cleaned and examined. For the first time in my life, I feel like my dental health is something I have control over, and that I have wonderful partners in caring for my teeth. I no longer feel like a victim. Cindy is an informative, patient, kind, and caring hygienist. She is also incredibly invested in her patients' well-being. I have begun using her phrase "disturbing the bacteria" as a euphemism for "flossing." (i.e. "Honey, I'm going to disturb my bacteria now." We always have a good laugh about how gross that sounds.) This is a team of teachers. They teach and empower you about your dental care and they help you feel informed and knowledgeable about your dental health. Disclaimer: if you are squeamish, do not read on. Due to a bad filling in my pre-teens that turned into a painful root canal, (they injected me over 20 times but my teeth would not go numb, so they finally went ahead and performed the root canal anyway! Ouch!). I felt every second of it. I've had dentophobia for almost 20 years. 20 years is a long time to be afraid of the dentist. I'd go to the dentist every year (sometimes longer) in between visits, fearing that my teeth would experience more pain or that they'd discover cavities. A vicious circle, this exacerbated my dental problems. I don't have too many cavities but my gums need attention. Now I am flossing daily, sometimes twice a day. Their movie goggles are also a big perk. He has a great film collection. A filmmaker and actress, this was a huge draw for coming to his office. I watched "Marley and Me" and was laughing throughout getting my cavity filled. I asked him "Guuhs it hokkay for me to laugh while goo fill my cavity?" He laughed and said it was even better for him if I did, and that he enjoys the laughter. The only drawback is that he works so quickly, the filling ended before the movie did! I am a new patient of Dr. Tseng's new associate, Dr. Mohammed, and have to say everything about this place I just love. I hadn't been to the dentist in a while because in general it's not my favorite place to visit, but everyone was super friendly and comforting and made me like it wasn't such a big deal. Dr. Mohammed was very professional and knowledgeable in response to all the questions I had, and seemed to be very efficient without making me feel like I was being rushed. The practice itself also has some really cool technology that let's you see what Dr. Mohammed was doing while I was in the chair, and you can also send pictures of your teeth to them if you're ever out and need quick advice without coming to the practice. I have been going to Dr. Tseng since I was eight years old and I am now 23. He is a wonderful very friendly dentist and his staff is wonderful! You do have to schedule way in advance but it's worth it and if you have to cancel an appointment they will do their best to try to call you when new appointments come up. Dr. Tseng saved my mom a lot of money growing up as he was honest with me about my teeth when an orthodontist tried to get me to get a full set of braces and Dr. Tseng said that I was fine. It's over ten years later and my teeth are perfectly straight. He never tries to get you to do expensive or painful procedures and gives you the same advice he would give his own daughter :). Comfort: a head-mounted movie studio for watching a movie from his extensive DVD selection while you're getting dental work done. And he takes significant time to explain and answer questions. * Selective in recommending treatment. Dr. Tseng and his hygienists are the best EVER. I was first referred to Dr. Tseng by multiple people in my alumni network and have been going to him for 8 years, even when I lived in Boston for a bit during that time -- I would schedule my dental appointments on visits back to the Bay Area. He is super high tech (I've even seen him at Fry's) and has the latest dental equipment. For example, he takes digital pictures of problem areas in your mouth with a small dental camera thing and shows you the pics on screen as he's explaining what's going on. Another time, he filled a small cavity for me WITHOUT anesthesia!!! and it was not only painless but actually pleasant. I got to watch a movie with movie goggles on, while jazz music was playing in the room and Dr. Tseng was fixing my cavity. Amazing, truly amazing. I go to Heather now for my hygienist and really like her. She is very patient and conscientious of your comfort. Also, they don't push unnecessary procedures or products, which I greatly appreciate. The thought of going to dentist used to fill me with fear and dread... until I met Dr. Tseng and his amazing team! Everyone in the office, from the office staff to the hygienists, are professional, knowledgeable, friendly and kind. They really take the time and effort to make their patients feel comfortable and are sensitive to individual needs/quirks. For example, I have a very strong gag reflex which makes dental x-rays a nightmare for me to endure. They really take this into consideration and always take as few x-rays as possible. When x-rays are absolutely necessary, they perform them quickly and efficiently to spare me. This is just one example, but there are many others. As others have noted, Dr. Tseng is very friendly and upbeat. He takes dental health seriously but puts his patients at ease with his cheerful demeanor. He is also honest - he doesn't push unnecessary procedures or products, and he has given me honest answers to questions that other dentists have either dodged or glossed over. Dr. Tseng's office runs like a well-oiled machine, and there is very little turnover. Whenever I visit, I always think to myself that these people must really enjoy what they do (or do a great job at fooling everyone!). I just starting going to a great dentist in Palo Alto. His name is Gregory Tseng. I found him on Yelp and saw all the great reviews he got. My mother in law first went to him for a checkup and a cleaning. I just went for a check up and cleaning also. The hygienist was able to remove some very stubborn stains that I've had on my teeth for years! She was the only one who bothered to try removing them. I love his hygienists. And Dr. Tseng has a great bedside manner and uses very up to date technology. He explains things very well. All the staff are very friendly and patient. And the office is run quite efficiently so you don't have to wait too long. And even though it is close to downtown Palo Alto, they always have parking in their personal parking lot. Dr. Greg Tseng and his smiling staff are the best - professional and fun. They're also great with my crazy 6 year old. We've send people over the years and are only sad because getting an appt with our favorite hygenist is not easy unless we book many months in advance! They offer the highest in technology (with the DVD goggles for the squirmish, which may be common now but they had them years ago) and honest approach. I've been going to Dr. Tseng for the past 7 years or so and have been really satisfied with the dental care I get there. - Staff there is incredibly helpful and friendly. - My hygienist provides great feedback on how I'm doing in between cleanings and how I can improve if needed. - Dr. Tseng himself is very jovial and provides explanations on why or why not he wants to say, do a filling, and I've been confident in his reasoning. - If you do have to get something done, they have these DVD glasses you can wear so you can watch a movie during the procedure. Anything to make getting a filling a little less annoying. Something to note though: - Like other people have said, you do have to book far in advance to get onto the schedule, I'm not sure if they are still taking new patients, but you definitely can't call and get a cleaning in the next month. I've been on a regular schedule with them for awhile so it hasn't been a huge issue yet. I do hope it doesn't get worse though. read more

I love Dr. Tseng! He's a great dentist. Wanted to second the person below who said that he does NOT push procedures. My immediately previous dentist gave me a whole list of cavities he wanted to fill, at least 3 or 4 and I had them all done. Then I went to Dr. Tseng and there are some teeth that we're observing, but he is conservative and wants to preserve the teeth that I have. Also, when I was a teenager, my dentist filled a lot of cavities that I really don't think we're necessary. And it was painful, smelly, loud and took a long time. As a result, I really did not enjoy going to the dentist. Dr. Tseng really cares to minimize the pain and discomfort. I've been to a number of dentists over the years and he is the best one that I've seen. read more

I am deathly afraid of the dentist but everyone who works at this office is so nice and makes you feel so comfortable. The last dentist I went to wanted to charge me for things I didn't even need and I would end up owing hundreds of dollars at the end of the visit but here they will tell you exactly what's covered by insurance before doing anything. Dr. Tseng explained everything in great detail to help me understand exactly what he's doing and that made me feel so much better. I second the high recommendation for Cindy, the hygienist. I have had two teeth cleanings with her, and now won't go to anyone else! She is kind, thorough, and very patient. At the end of my most recent cleaning, when I was getting ready to leave, I asked her how high up the gumline I should floss. She could have just responded to me verbally, and I would have been fine with that, but instead, she sat me back down in the chair, put on a fresh pair of gloves, and demonstrated proper flossing technique while I observed with a mirror! She takes the time to do things right, and is very warm and gentle in getting her patients to do the same. read more

I hate dentists, but I love Dr. Tseng. He's terminally perky, which annoyed me a bit on my first few visits, because I was still a dentophobe and suspected it was all front. But a few more visits and I have been won over. His staff of technicians is thorough and friendly, and they always remember who you are and what you were up to around the time of your last visit (ok, they jot notes on your file, but still - it's a nice touch). They take great care to numb you up well before they do any work on you, and they give you these great video goggles so you can watch movies while they drill and fill. I'm not saying I would go there if I didn't have to, but Dr. Tseng definitely took the fear and pain out of dentistry for me. read more

Dr. Tseng and his whole staff are amazing. Kind, professional, and skilled!! I have extreme dental fears and had put off going for way too long. I found Dr. Tseng on Yelp and went when I needed two emergency root canals and then two crowns on top of that. Dr. Tseng explained everything that was going to happen, set me up with the endodontist, and then did the crowns. By the time I had finished the second crown I had no more fear. I felt so relaxed in his office and had fun chatting with him and his staff. One tooth was really challenging to save, and he put in a lot of extra time getting the crown to fit. His team is also very knowledgable and caring - everyone really wanted me to have a good experience, and I did. If you are looking for a new dentist, look no further! read more

Dr. Tseng is great and his office staff and hygienists are also wonderful. Don't get scared away when you find out that he only takes the premier version of a dental insurance. So far I haven't seen a bill or invoice and I have regular dental insurance. Even if I did, he would be worth the additional 10-20% out-of-pocket per visit for the quality of care. He is honest, he doesn't exaggerate any situation, nor does he try to upsell you on some dental services. His hygienests are that way as well. They are very gentile, take their time and are respectful of your space and budget. The only drawback to Dr. Tseng is that if you have to change an appointment, it can take many weeks, if not a few months before you can find another appointment. read more

My family has been coming to Dr Tseng and his team for many years. I have always enjoyed the team, their timeliness, their sense of humor, and certainly their professionalism; they know their stuff! But the reason I picked today to write a review is that I showed up this morning for my bi-annual cleaning appointment, and alas, a scheduling mishap did not show this appointment in their records. I wouldn't have had a problem with rescheduling, but they had just received a last minute cancelation for one of Dr. Tseng's patients, so not only did he do the cleaning himself, but also repaired a chipped tooth I had booked a separate appointment for. And there was no wait whatsoever! As for the reviews that say that this office doesn't do children's cleanings or x-rays, that is simply not true. My 3 kids have been in his care since day one with all the trimmings and positive dental appointment memories. They are fantastic with the kids! read more

Saw Dr Katie today and she was awesome. She told me my teeth looked great, even though they were less than perfect. She wasn't deluding me but was positive and made me feel less shameful about my teeth which makes me want to do better. She was the most gentle practitioner I have ever had (sorry Tseng Sr, yer great too but you have competition) and I left feeling like I made a new friend. Dentistry is intimate and I felt safe and in good hands. I travel down from SF for these folks and they are all fantastic. I had been to an eye appointment earlier and had my eyes dilated. The light in the office was harsh (as it need to be for them to see) and she offered me sunglasses. Best dentists ever. read more

Brought in whole family based on yelp reviews. They didn't clean my children's teeth and stated that they typically won't clean a child's teeth until they are about 14 years of age. Seems odd, since they have had full cleanings at their last dentist in another state and have no issues with the dentist. My younger child had a weird spot in his tooth - it looked like a cavity to me, but I'm no expert, plus my child was in no pain. They said it looked like it needed a filling be replaced, and to come back to have it filled - an appointment was available two months later to do so. Later I also found out that they don't do x-rays on kids even when there is an issue or concern - only photos. The spot on my child's tooth seemed odd, so I took a friend's advice and got a second opinion, despite the fact my child was in no pain. They got him in right away and pulled the tooth on the spot! :( They said it was so badly infected that it almost spread to his brain...the x ray showed the spot of decay internally. Look, everyone makes mistakes, and I'm certainly not out to destroy this office. But I kept reading all the rave reviews and thought that while this may be a great office if your teeth are perfect, you might want to seek another opinion elsewhere if you have any concerns at all.
