When I joined Babes I was in a depressive slump. I was at my heaviest and had no motivation to go to the gym. I found Babes via a friend and was so excited to see a gym dedicated to the holistic health of women. I immediately felt at home upon arriving. From the trainers to the participants, everyone has been a joy to be around. They motivate me to do better every day. I began my search a few months ago for a personal trainer in the South Bay area and stumbled upon Babes of Wellness, a private all-women's gym offering 1-on-1 training, group sessions, and fitness classes. I was excited to learn it was owned by a WOC, Kat. On our kickoff call, I explained that I was committed to a year of private training but needed flexibility due to a demanding work schedule. I also needed a trainer experienced in rehabilitation because my top goal was rehabbing a severe knee and shoulder injury. Kat assured me Babes of Wellness could support that, so I signed up for their one-year private membership (~$800/month for two sessions a week). PROS 1. Alexa!!! She's the only private trainer at Babes, and she is phenomenal. In just three months with her, I lost 10 pounds and, more importantly, my knee pain disappeared. She understands the body so well and tailors every workout to strengthen the muscles that support my injuries. She focuses on form above all else, which made our sessions more effective and gave me confidence I didn't know I had. Alexa researched my injuries, created modifications, and explained each exercise in detail so I knew exactly what we were targeting and why. She's encouraging, motivating, and trustworthy. I went from struggling to walk up stairs to being able to do squats again! She gave me so much value and truly changed my health. CONS 1. Flexibility: With Alexa being the only private trainer, scheduling is tough. She worked hard to accommodate me, but overall class times and availability are limited. When you're paying this much, it's frustrating if you can't get time slots that fit your schedule. 2. Culture: Outside of Alexa, the culture didn't feel positive. Kat often uses sarcasm that comes across as demeaning. I know some people may find it funny when your trainer talks down to you and even call it "tough love," but that's not how I operate. I came to BOW in a very vulnerable state and expressed to Kat my fears of losing mobility at such a young age. So when I'm in a private 1-on-1 training (which takes place at the same time and area of group classes) and she makes fun of me for not being able to lift as much weight as her Señora Babes classes in front of everyone, I definitely took offense to that. There is also a subculture of women who are obsessed with being in Kat's "inner circle" and they create a toxic air of exclusion, especially if you do not have a membership. Some people can't afford a membership (heck, I barely could!), but that doesn't mean you should be iced out of conversations, ignored, or shamed. 3. Value: For the cost, I didn't feel the membership offered enough beyond Alexa's training. Group classes aren't included; open gym isn't an option; class slots fill quickly; and memberships can't be paused, so you're charged regardless of attendance. Make-up sessions were hard to schedule, given availability issues. 4. Cancellation: I understand that the cancellation policy states that a final week will be charged for a fee, so you can take this critique with a grain of salt, but I had 5 sessions (technically 6, but it is what it is) to make up. I asked Kat if she was willing to waive the final cancellation fee, considering I had already had $600 of sessions still to make up. She said no and said I can just make up the training sessions whenever I have time. All in all, I can't see myself returning to Babes of Wellness. Alexa gave me everything I hoped for in a trainer, and I'll always be grateful for her, but outside of her, the experience didn't feel supportive or worth the price. I believe fitness spaces should empower women to feel included and safe, not pressured or dismissed. I hope Babes can evolve in that direction, because the foundation of what they're building could be amazing, if handled differently. read more

I was on a search for a new gym to get me back into my workout routine and I'm so glad I found BOW. Unless I'm enjoying my workout, it's hard for me to remain consistent and I can confidently say I have enjoyed my all my workouts since my start in September. The classes are challenging but fun and effective. The owner cares about the workouts she curates and she cares about proper form, which is so important. There's always good music with is a major plus! And it's an all women gym, truly top tier! read more

This place has become my safe space & my home away from home. Shortly after the first visit I knew I had to continue coming to this gym. This space is more than just a gym, it's a community of folks coming together to be better for themselves & the community. The coaches constantly encourage everyone to push themselves to the next level and to learn new things. After my experience, it's safe to say that I have learned so many new things and can now walk into any gym with confidence in my form and performance. I've been coming to the this gym for a couple of months now and I would definitely recommend! I LOVE the strength training classes! All the coaches really focus on correcting your form and overall boost your confidence! When I first started, it was really easy to tell the coaches about movements I'd never done and they would help me do them correctly. It's really a supportive environment and I'm so excited to go workout each time! I love how the workouts are thoughtfully planned and allows you to see your progress throughout the weeks. I have been attending BOW for a month now and can definitely say it has positively impacted my overall workout routine so far! Babes of wellness I started coming to BOW since September 2022. I started with the yoga class, and slowly moved into the other classes they host. I was never a person who liked working out and I have always made excuse on why I could not work out (kids,work, etc...). I did make an attempt to go to the big chain gyms but it felt like a meat market. I was more uncomfortable than focus on my workout. But let me get back to BOW, I have never felt uncomfortable and I always leave feeling empowered to be a Latina women. Kat is amazing at encouraging me to challenge myself. Karen is a replica of Kat but with a lot of energy lol. SP is also a great motivator and very helpful when she's training me. Also, BOW is making a difference in the members life by hosting life changing classes that enhance my quality of life. Started my group membership last August as a way to recommit to my health and to manage my depression. There are a variety of classes to choose from like HIIT classes as well as low impact classes, and I can plan out my gym time around my work schedule, which is great. Special workshops are offered on occasion, mainly on Saturdays, ranging from sound baths to cumbia-Zumba. All the classes end with a 10-15 min cool down/meditation, most times an affirmation card is passed around. Coming here has really helped me stay grounded. But the best part is that it's WOMEN ONLY!! I feel way less self conscious when I come here. I don't have to worry about creepy guys staring at me. And everyone is so encouraging toward one another. This once was what I liked to refer to as "my sacred place". I have never experienced such a magnificent atmosphere at any other gym. This ALL women gym has set the bar very high for any other gym out there. It is a one of a kind, everything from the equipment to the coaches , and the sisterhood are the reasons why I miss it. Life happens and sometimes we need to decipher if whether we could save money and utilize the equipment one has at home to break a good sweat and or spend a pretty penny to get a good workout in. I chose to save my money , but that isn't to say I may not return in the future. Kat is a professional, savvy and skillful in the art of body and will have you sweating, but she's also a sweetheart with a big genuine heart that will be checking on your mental health and well being. I'm so glad I found this place. This is an all women gym. I like that the trainer Kat is very outgoing and makes me feel comfortable. The classes are fun, but I sweat buckets with all the exercises. My favorite part is that we mediate after and I am able to relax. I like that there are early morning classes, evening classes and Saturday classes as well, they fit my schedule and I'm able to take care of myself. The place is super cute and even though it's a gym you can take lots of cute pictures inside and at the beautiful mural in the back. Will definitely keep coming back. read more

I startled with BOW in the middle of the pandemic. At first my workouts with Kat were virtual. This did not mean that she did not push me to reach my wellness goals. She curated an amazing online experience for me. Each workout would start with an intention, a butt kicking workout session, and meditation/reflection at the end of each session. She provided such an amazing experience allowing me to get strong both physically and mentally. I had never worked out in a gym that valued meditation/reflection for self-love and growth. Currently I am attending group classes that still follow the same methodology as the virtual class. Every class that is offered is a great workout! Power Pilates is great. Nancy really pushes you to finish workouts by motivating you and telling you that "You can do anything for 10 seconds." Peachy Queen, the lower body workout class, and Wonder Woman, the upper body workout class, are led by Kat or Inez. Both of them provide excellent training by helping you improve your form and push you to be more than what one think they can do. Both of these classes allow you to chose your own weight so that you are comfortable with weight lifting. Aside from the coaches the women at the gym encourage you to push through or try more weight. This encouragement comes through when you are ready to give up during the workout. On the weekends Yoga is offered. The Soulful Yoga class leaves you feeling relaxed and calm and ready for the day. Overall this gym is not like your regular gyms. It is a Wellness Sanctuary that allows you to reach your fitness goals whether they are physical, mental or spiritual. read more

LOVE coming to BOW! I first started with Kat back in late 2018 and started again in late 2021 and it is so heartwarming seeing that Babes of Wellness has it's very own gym in Compton! It's local and very welcoming, all the women there motivate each other! there is no "gym shade" whatsoever. Every instructor of each class is very engaged with their class helping everyone with their form where it's needed, along with encouraging everyone to tap into their full potential! Meditation at the end of every class is a great way to take a deep breath and reflect on your day and workout, I always leave feeling great! (and sweaty) lol I really appreciate the flexibility of morning, evening and weekend classes, it's doesn't conflict with my work schedule at all!
