My family and I walked across the street to the Isla Shopping center looking for a restaurant. We came across Baby Lobster and the waiter was friendly and was eager for us to eat there. The place was empty and I don't know if it was because of the location ( on the back side away from other restaurants. The setting was very nice as we sat outside along the canal. The food was good. I asked the waiter if the shrimp tacos were better fried or grilled. He suggested fried and I was sorry. I think they would have been better grilled. The real reason I'm giving it only 3 stars is that when the bill for 5 people came, we were told that they did not take credit cards. I was surprised because it is in the tourist zone and a very touristy shopping center. Only one of our group had brought cash and thank God he had enough for the 5 of us. We decided to check this place out because we were so hungry. In retrospect, I would check out other places around the corner first. The food was ok. Nothing spectacular. They overcharge us on the lobster trio and they were very small over cooked lobsters. The mix fajita were ok (shrimps were tiny). The fish tacos were actually pretty good. We also order a mojito and margarita (both had very little alcohol). Overall it was an average meal and overprice. When we asked for the check, they said they only take cash. The food was pretty good. More than enough for two people. We shared the seafood feast. But as others have said be very careful when it is time to pay. The gratuity is included but they also ask you for a nice tip on top of that. Not realizing the gratuity was included I gave the waiter an additional $15 USD. My husband not realizing the amount I gave the waiter, who had extended his hand out to my husband also, gave him an additional $5. I like the food, but I don't like dishonest people. read more

Great riverside restaurant, great place in la isla mall. Andy is such a nice and patient guy and gives us such good service. The environment is good and the food tastes fantastic (but a little expensive). Love it, definitely recommended. Lobster is definitely a good choice, fresh and taste good. We started with large, strong good Margaritas. The salmon enchiladas were so good - very flavorful. The lobster soup was an excellent bisque with chunks of lobster. I wanted to give this restaurant a higher rating, because the service is excellent. That being said, the other reviews are accurate -they will rip you off and add the tip to your bill without telling you and then try to get a second tip from you. They do this with the whole "we don't accept credit card" scam they are running. Also, the lobster/ fish didn't seem as fresh as I would have liked and it might have not agreed with my stomach. Such a shame that the food was amazing but they TRIED TO SCAM US. Had a sign on the wall for the exchange rate being 18 pesos per US dollar but when they brought out the bill they flip the sign over and gave us a hand written receipt. the hand written receipt had an increased price than what was on the menu. Waiter tried to tell us 10% tip was included but IT IS ILLEGAL to do that in Mexico. Once the correct price was given I saw they were trying to add an additional $30 to what was a $55 tab, definitely not 10%. SCAM, DO NOT TAKE HANDWRITTEN RECEIPTS! Keep the menu with you because they lie about the prices when they bring you the check, they also tried to lie about not accepting card only cash. You need to be aware up front that a 20% gratuity is already included in your bill. You won't realize it until later because of the way they present your amount due in pesos vs dollars. Our server was very well compensated as we left another 20%. Also we were told we could not use credit card and had to pay cash. read more

We showed up for dinner around 9:50 PM and these guys gave us an amazing experience when most restaurants would've turned us away because it was so late. I wish I read a review before going into this restaurant. So, please do yourself a favor and read my review before you got into this restaurant. The food is very ordinary. Nothing to brag about. Lobster is very small and not a fresh one. However, the one that made me very upset is that they charged 20% service charge or gratuity right away although we are only 2 people who dined in. I would be very understanding if it's more than 6 people in a group. When I asked why we were charged for the gratuity right away, the server was very rude saying that's company policy. I said that was wrong, but then he immediately replied, "well what were you gonna do?" I said, "I would write a review about your restaurant." We stayed in Cancun for a week and ate at many restaurants but this is a good one to enjoy some lobster and seafood. There are supposedly lots of restaurants here that have seafood and lobster. But most are ridiculously expensive. Not to mention, most of them are pricey but the food quality doesn't live up to the price. We found this at La Isla Shopping Plaza amongst the boardwalk of restaurants. We orders the Surf and Surf for 2. But between my hubby and kid, we were stuffed. It's about $55 USD. It was a grilled platter with 2 lobster tails, several shrimp kabobs, grilled salmon and another grilled white fish. It came with rice, salad, pasta and grilled vegetables. It's a quaint little place but our server, Erazmo, was super nice and friendly. My family and I really enjoyed this meal. read more

We ordered Combinación Mexicana and Pasta al Gusto. The meat for Combinación Mexicana was raw when we ordered it well done. For Pasta Al Gusto I asked if the Pasta Alfredo included shrimp, the waiter said yes, and the menu did not said anything about an additional price. When we got the check a Pasta that was supposed to be around $140 pesos, came out to $300 pesos. We argued that it was illegal to not say the actual price of things. They refused to listen to us. In the end we left without leaving a tip, because they were about to also charged us 15% automatically. Total rip off. The food is average. Today, I was looking for a place to have lunch and I was looking at their menu. The same waiter who served us last week asked if I wanted a table. I told him I didn't have any cash, just credit cards. He then said they accept credit cards. I told the waiter he served us several days ago and we couldn't use our credit cards. It was pricier than we anticipated but still a good value compared to the U.S. For a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids), we ordered: surf & surf plate (amazing!), kids cheeseburger, battered shrimp plate, 2 adult drinks, 2 milks. There was soo much food. Our bill came out to 1400 pesos with a required 280 pesos tip. That's 20% and our waiter said it was required where 10% goes to the business and the remaining 10% gets pooled and shared amongst the staff. read more

Food was ok. Fish and chips- fish was soaked in oil. Seafood pasta was decent, but needed habanera sauce to get some flavor. Even their nachos were super bland without the jalapeños we had to request as well. Shrimp fajita was okay, baby shrimps all around. Fish and chips.... the chips = fries were good! The mosquitos ate me and my family alive while - i did suggest they get something to save their customers from mosquitos. Finally, the bill did show an extra 140 in tip. Went looking for somewhere to eat as we weren't really impressed with our resort food (not much selection for seafood) We came to check out the mall and noticed Baby Lobster, decided to give it a shot. This place does not disappoint! First I have to say the staff here is super friendly, very accommodating, and all work with a big smile on their faces! The food was good portions and good price for all you get! I got a passion fruit margarita, and my boyfriend a beer which were huge! They give you some chips & a few dips complimentary. We were pleasantly surprised to see our favorite waiter, Ricardo from Mr. Papas was working at Baby Lobster. We had the surf and surf dinner for two. There was so much delicious food - we couldn't finish it all. The mahi-mahi was grilled to perfection and the shrimp and lobster needed no butter. It melted in your mouth. First of let's clear this up, everyone in Cancun is trying to sell you something... so be it, being naive about it until you come to terms with it like I did just makes it worse. However, as we walked by, Erasmo did his thing, struck up a conversation, established some common ground, endeared himself to us and made us comfortable we weren't going to be too taken advantage of. Made enough of an impression that we decided to forego all the other chains in la isla mall and return to the baby lobster after our shopping adventure. He did a fabulous job explaining the dishes and making recommendations. Had the grilled cheese plate (nachos) as a complimentary appetizer and guacamole. The mrs had shrimp fajitas and I had lobster tacos. They were very attentive to our needs as we were the only customers but I'll go ahead and make believe we were special... We went to baby lobster because of the good reviews we read...The food was so so at best but not a horrible experience. When the bill came all of a sudden they didn't accept credit cards... When it said on Yelp that they did... And of course they had the worst exchange rate we had seen... 16 to 1... Then we figured out after the fact that they had added in an extra tip as well...
