I went to a class on a spur-of-the-moment decision three months ago and now Bachata is a regular part of my life. I think what separates BDA from other places and what kept me coming back even though I had never done much social dancing is that Nicole, Demetrio, and Pete are warm and caring people and the community of dancers here also reflect that. Came here w/ my boyfriend for the Wednesday intro bachata lesson and stayed the whole night! Going as a couple: You have to go around the circle, so don't get too comfortable, and hopefully neither one of you are the jealous type! We aren't, but once that class was over, my boyfriend was immediately super affectionate and would not let go of my hand lol. Translation: "you can look all you want fellas, but the girl is mine" haha. ;) Going solo: If you go alone, no partner is needed! And everyone is super nice. Wardrobe: I wore a cute crop top + figure-hugging jeans to show off my ASSets, since it was date night. But! Overall, the women were cute casual + comfy heels, and the men were across the board. So come as you are! During the social, more women came in dresses/conservative club attire. I started off in heels for the class and switched to my wedges. I am extremely happy with the lessons I've been taking from Bachata Dance Academy. I had friends that have been dancing for a while talk about how great their classes were and finally got to experience it myself. Did not disappoint. Demetrio and Nicole are real masters of the art. They break down Movement and music. I do not think there are many instructors that have and share so much knowledge about musically so that you can understand intention while dancing. I'm so happy I signed up for the 12-week once per week Beginner's Master Class for Bachata. I was hesitant at first because I had been social dancing for almost 2 years taking random classes here and there at different venues. I figured I would just be learning the same stuff I had been learning at the other places, but boy was I wrong. In the Master Class, you learn all the technical stuff like musicality (how to dance to the music), how to properly dance with a partner (holding a strong frame and the importance of it), how to lead properly (with preps and safely lead to not injury the follower), how to follow (learning to read cues of preps and holding a frame), styling, dips, more advance footwork and combinations, and more. With the Beginner's Master Class, you also get to take for FREE all the basic Bachata classes during the week which are from Sunday through Wednesday. Those classes alone are $15/class and on Sunday and Wednesday will include social dancing. For those in the Master Class though, on Sunday is a $5 entrance fee. This alone is worth taking the Master Class. Of course, if you want to really improve your dancing skills as highly suggested by Demetrio and Nicole, you should keep practicing what you learn in the classes. They also suggest staying for a bit at the social dancing in order to practice dancing with others who don't know the routine. This will highly improve your dancing skills. I highly recommend taking the Master's Class if you really want to improve your dancing skills. Demetrio and Nicole are knowledgeable, open to questions and suggestions for better learning, and make the class fun. read more

I've been taking bachata dance lessons at clubs and studios since 2019. The occasional dance club class can only get you so far and definitely not to a competent social level. My prior studio just told me to dance social. Not much of a help for a new dancer who could dance okay but could not remember though of the routine to get through a dance. BDA had a plan. A structured 12 week course that builds on skills learned week after week to increase one's abilities. Demetrio, Nicole, and Pete will get you there. These courses taught me to engage at a social level where I can confidently lead a dance. I learned new skills and made new friends. I can't say enough about them and how they really help build the bachata community in Los Angeles but here are some starters: They make new dancers feel welcome and have classes geared for different levels while still helping people who have been dancing for a while continues improve and grow their knowledge and techniques on so many levels! I'm glad they have a free half hr basics class before and then the $15 for the beginner and intermediate (2 hrs). I get to practice my basics to warm me up because sometimes i forget. This is the best way to learn how to dance bachata. I tried a few other social nights and a few other basic classes but none were as good as the Bachata Dance Academy! First of all they have a good program that can take you from super beginner (me) to being very comfortable on the dance floor. It's not just a class here or there but an actual program and series of classes to get good. I really liked that. I loved that the classes were pretty big, there is always someone to dance with, it's never awkward because you are stuck with the same partner or no partner at all and also theres nice energy in the room. The instructor is amazing and so nice!! I felt SO COMFORTABLE the whole time! (Which is saying a lot because I was embarrassed just standing on the dance floor when I started and now I go social dancing all the time and don't even think about it) He answered all of my questions and never made me feel stupid for asking and he also went over many of the steps several times until we got it. He is very patient, was way more helpful and caring than many of the teachers I have been to and also very funny! I highly recommend this dance academy for learning Bachata! Demetrio is one of the best instructors, what I like about him is that he will take a very complex move and break it down into tiny steps until you can slowly master it. He likes what he does and has a passion to teach it. During the bachata festival he taught a basic bachata course which was absolutely brilliant that I wish he could do again at que rico. On Sundays Pete teaches bachata and he introduces new types of footwork but most importantly he tries to teach you about the basics. For instance he taught us how important it is to always keep count, if you stumble or get lost just follow the count and you will get back into step. pros: instructors are the best at teaching bachata. people there were generally nice and welcoming, they give out special dance packages that save you lots of money, they also have social dancing after the classes during certain days cons: the biggest negative is that the girl to guy ratio can be brutal. I know they have no control over who comes or goes but I would be so happy if they could find a way to incentivize more ladies to come. Even if they made it free for ladies or really cheap I would not mind since its hard to learn if you have to wait two turns to dance. read more

Bachata Dance Academy (BDA) is the place to go if you want to learn to dance quick! They taught us the fundamentals needed for dance! I've taken Bachata dance classes with various other dance studios who promised so much yet, they did not deliver and the rates were pretty high! At BDA we started dancing from class #1 in Bachata Basic Urban. 12 weeks went by too fast but, each week we learned so much! They taught us partner work, individual work, foot work, musicality and understating counts, and so much more! In addition, they even set us up with a discount code for top of the line dance shoes! I absolutely loved the passion that transpired from both Demitrio and Nicole. They compliment each other so well and both had so many tips from different perspectives. The rates for the 12 week course was 100% worth it for the 1.5 weekly hour of class. Everyone must come to Stevens steakhouse! If You're looking for the best Bachata lessons in LA u ought to come to Jorge's class. I kid you not. I'm a dancer and I've taken several bachata classes with other instructors but none are up to my expectations. The ambiance and the energy of his class is very welcoming and you literally end up leaving 100% more confident and ready to hit the floor with your new moves. I have gone about 3 or 4 times and every single time I leave wanting to come back for more. I brought two friends the last time I went and both left the class wanting to stay for the social session. Everyone in the class is just friendly (no snobs or show offs like Hollywood studios) and you get to make new friends.
