For me, I decided to look for someone who did not possess the bad qualities of my previous dentist. My previous dentist had a penchant for railing APS and praising Republicans while doing the exam. I stayed with her because the cleaning was great, but then it wasn't; something happened to the dental hygienist and suddenly the once glorious cleanings weren't so glorious (or long) and I decided it was time to move on. Enter Dr. J. Domingo Valles. Technically the practice is his father's, but he is the active dentist on site. Dr. Valles' manner is thorough and patient-centered; he believes in providing quality care with the patient's comfort in mind. Both Dr. Valles and Sandy, the hygienist I spent the most time with, carefully explained what was going to happen and if I was ok with it. I have a fear of bitewing X-rays from my experience with the giant, ancient ones that my childhood dentist would use, which left me gagging and upset, but Dr. Valles' office has the latest tech which leads to a much more pleasant experience - no gagging here. Throughout the appointment, Sandy and Dr. Valles made an effort to get to know me as a person, and shared some of their stories as well. The entire visit was about an hour and a half, and I left with a very clean mouth and a very good feeling about my new dentist. I know that many people have a fear of the dentist, and I would recommend Dr. Valles for these folks. There's nothing scary about the procedures, and the staff are always concerned about your comfort. They truly care, and that makes the difference. Dr. Valles and his staff definitely earned 5 stars from me. The bar was admittedly low - as long as he didn't talk about politics and did a thorough cleaning I would be happy - but my experience surpassed everything that I thought I wanted/needed in a dentist. I was brought upon this place by a friend whom I had a convo w/ about wisdom teeth removal -- she recommended me this place as she also had her consult here as well! & to be honest, I am not disappointed at all by my decision to come here! I've been putting off getting my wisdom teeth out for about a year now, but I figured now was the time to do it. Upon arriving to my consult, I had scheduled this appointment about 3 weeks out since it's summer & all of us are out of school + it's the perfect time to get them out. When I arrived, Angela, the front desk person, made the check-in process a breeze -- she had me fill out some paperwork & took care of everything else. After checking in, a nurse came & brought me back to take some x-rays to see how far in my wisdom teeth are coming in... to my surprise, I didn't realize the top 2 were also coming, so that was an interesting time for all of us. After x-rays, she brought me back into the room w/ the dentist chair & asked me a few questions regarding my history -- then we waited for Dr. Urquhart to come. Dr. Urquhart really knows his stuff -- from everything on the consent form he has you sign, to explaining the procedure, to thoughtfully answering any questions you may have... he makes you feel comfortable, safe, & that you're in the right hands. He also writes up your prescription during your consult so you can pick up your prescription prior to your wisdom teeth removal appointment. Fast forward about a month & half, I have just gotten my wisdom teeth out today by Dr. Urquhart & the whole process as explained from the consult was the exact same. Everything went by like a breeze -- he provides you w/ extra gauze just in case & was also nice enough to walk you out to the car too. If you're like me & was terrified of wanting to get your wisdom teeth out but are scared of everything that everyone tells you, DON'T BE. I tried to transfer my care from a different Aspen dental location out of state and continue my…read moreMotto aligner care and dental care in Albuquerque (only one Aspen location in Albuquerque open on 2424 Louisiana blvd). After the first appointment where I explained that I hoped my new dentist would help with my aligner care, I got a sense the dentist (Navbir Aurora) wasn't not enthusiastic about addressing my need, but reluctantly agreed to reschedule me (they didn't have the parts needed). After the second appointment (that took about 3 minutes total) where the dentist (Navbiv Aurora) created spaces between my teeth to ensure my teeth were moving as they should, he said to me in a condescending tone "I am not supposed to help you because you initiated care somewhere else. I am doing it as a courtesy, I am not supposed to do it" and he walked out of the room. He went on to attack me because I happened to ask if all necessary spaces were created between the teeth. It's my mouth, my health - I have the right to ask clarifying questions and receive reassurance, but basic questions triggered his fragile ego and he got defensive. He then really wanted to make sure I knew and felt that my issue and my care wasn't important to him and that he was bothered by it and his demeanor showed it. It was a put down. No follow up plan, no goodbye- just left the room after a snarky arrogant remark. That conversation made me feel shocked and confused, and I told the assistant who was in the room and witnessed the conversion that the exchange didn't make me feel welcome here as a patient. Why did he have to reiterate multiple times that helping me was not what he was supposed to do? This is the only Aspen in town- who is supposed to help me then!? The dentist who is also the practice owner made me feel like a bother, a waste of his time. The assistant brought the dentist back to the room who immediately said "That's not what I said- I didn't say you aren't welcome here" to which I replied that he made me feel extremely unwelcome by his comments and that I would appreciate a different kind of attitude toward my situation. He replied coldly and vengefully "you are done here. Go back to Vegas and receive your care there. I am done with you" That was terrifying and scary. I have never experienced this type of harrowing customer service and arrogant condescending attitude from any medical professional in my life. Especially coming from a practice owner who could try caring about people, their dental problems, his reputation a little more or at least pretend to. The scenario felt like this: "you aren't bringing any money to my business , you are another dentist's problem (even from another Aspen), so I will make sure you know your care isn't important here and we are doing you a tremendous favor" And when you bring up that his behavior makes you feel unwelcome, he will try to flex his muscles, show his temper knowing he is the only Aspen dentist in town and will blatantly kick you out of his office knowing that you are left with no options in town since Motto aligners are specific only to the Aspen chain. I was told that transferring care wouldn't be a problem because Aspen is a chain, but this local Aspen owner feels bothered finishing up someone else's work for free, will be very explicit about it, will rub it in your face to make you feel bad and will kick you out as a customer when you bring up an issue just because he feels like it. This is not normal behavior from a dentist/business owner. I feel bad for his staff-they all seem like really nice well-meaning people and I am sorry that they have to work with him (Navbir Aurora)and be subjected to conceited, emotionally volatile and unprofessional behavior from their boss with a superiority complex. They all seemed so helpless. Shame on you, sir. Shame on you. What a disappointment and disgrace.

The office staff claimed they would call her back but did not do so, so I encouraged her to call again since they were likely busy. The front desk answered and placed her on hold, but they forgot to actually push the button so my daughter had to sit there and listen to the other staff and the front desk staff talk about her. They laughed that this was the third time she had called and made fun of her being from out of state. They agreed with each other to just tell her that the dentist had left and they said their goodbyes. When the front desk person returned to the phone and said the dentist had left, my daughter brought up the fact that she was not placed on hold and just heard their entire conversation. The staff member became very quiet, failed to apologize, simply mumbled something, and hung up. This is the worst unprofessional customer service I have been a part of experiencing. They showed no care or sympathy and were inappropriately disrespectful.
