We have just moved to Inveremere and after 8 hours in the car we wanted something easy and laid back. Back Country Jacks is just off the highway to the right coming into Radium just past the first intersection. Some modern but mostly classic rock and/or 60's and 70's tunes. They offer all you can eat deals throughout the week. AYCE Ribs are on Fridays. The server was very friendly and attentive (it's a delicate balance between being annoying and checking how the meal is going). The decor is 'olde worlde' country charm with a barn like kitsch. The menus are a news paper style on news print. Prices were average for this area. Serving sizes are on the smaller side for a bbq joint. We sat outside in the patio area enjoying the sun. Inside they have booths and tables, outside it's picnic tables and benches. I got the 1/4 and 1/4 dinner for $14.95, it came with 1/4 rack of ribs and 1/4 chicken with garlic toast, mashed potato, baked beans and a glass of house wine. My boyfriend got the steak sandwich, he said it was good but not great "I have had better and worse". The ribs were good, fall off the bone with a nice glaze but no bark. The mashed potato came in a light coloured gravy with a good garlic punch. The gravy was really good. The 1/4 chicken was tasty but a little dry for my taste it was the only thing I didn't finish. The baked beans were the star of the show, smokey and delicious, I almost wanted to lick the bowl clean. The garlic toast was adequate as was the house wine, but nothing special. I would prefer Memphis Blues to this place but if you are hankering for some southern inspired home style food and in this area this place is a good choice for the food type. I would eat here again but with many other restaurants to try in the Radium/ Invermere/ Canal Flats area it won't be for a while. read more

We were driving from Invermere back to Calgary, and we decided to stop in this little town by the Radium Hot Springs for some food. This was Sunday around 3pm. Every restaurant we went to were closed, and we got so frustrated, we asked one of the locals where we should go for some food. She had recommended Back Country Jack's which was just down the street from where we parked. You can definitely tell the place is a local hangout spot. The front patio was 3/4 occupied. Not bad for a Sunday 3pm. Their menus are made in newspaper form, and the outdoor patio seating were modest with umbrellas and plastic chairs, with utensils already stocked in a holder on your table. Inside the restaurant has a very country feel. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the food (good sign), gave great recommendations, and tended to our water cups frequently. We ended up ordering the calamari as appetizer (comes with tzatziki sauce), the batter was perfect, wasn't too salty, wasn't too hard, wasn't too crunchy, wasn't too over-battered, it was just right. We added a side order of garlic mushrooms... this wasn't a "side" portion, it was more like a full on meal portion!! It was very good. We also ordered a full rack of ribs ($24!) that comes with one large garlic toast, and whatever side you choose. We chose the house fries with cheese. My boyfriend loves french fries and takes them very seriously, and I barely eat them, but when we tried their fries, we both couldn't get enough of it! The ribs... ah... fell right off the bone. The sauce that was covering the ribs was just the perfect: not too much, not too little, just the right amount to keep you licking your fingers. Overall, the portions are very generous, so come hungry. We are so glad that we were able to stumble upon this local gem. We stopped by this place for a lunch stop in radium. I had ordered the 1/4 rack of ribs for lunch because I was craving bbq. I had assumed a 1/4 rack would be approximately 4 ribs, but assumed wrong. When the plate arrived, there was a measly 3 ribs on my plate with little meat on each accompanied with a small side of fries and garlic toast. For $12 I expected more ribs, $12 for 3 ribs I found was an absolute rip off. Both my son and I found our fries were undercooked. When mentioned it to the waitress she apologized and brought out a fresh batch. She explained that they had gotten a new type of potatoe....ok...? In the end, we paid $3 for our pops that weren't refilled, had under cooked fries and ribs that were nothing special and I could have easily cooked at home. Back Country Jack's has it all. Friendly waitstaff, delicious food, and fantastic specials. We ate outside and were charmed by the waitress who demonstrated how to use the electric shock fly swatter when we were eating sticky ribs outside. When eating inside, the ambiance felt cozy and very much like a ski lodge. Extremely affordable for Canada and the steaks and specials were incredible. Great value and great service! After eating here I would have to agree with most of the negative reviews. The food was not good at all. The prawns were decent but the rest of my meal, as well as everyone else's food at our table, was not good at all. This "backcountry" barbecue joint is situated at the south entrance to Radium on 95. The parking can get tight, but there was ample street side space available. The restaurant atmosphere is fun and has an outdoor patio. Note: it's either not a law in all of Canada, or just BC, but smoking was allowed on the patio. The menu is full of options country style food options and there's definitely something for everyone. Unfortunately our food was overcooked and it took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. We need probably would have sent it back if it didn't take nearly 15 minutes just to get drinks. Based on some of the other reviews I've read and my own experience, the service and timeliness leaves much to be desired. My recommendations to the owner: don't have All-You-Can-Eat events on nights that you're expecting weekend-size crowds, and make sure your staff are zoned. Seven servers barking seven different instructions at people as they come in. Also, servers should avoid using the front cash register if they're not going to address or welcome people walking in. I get it, you busy and sometimes corners need to be shaved to accommodate large numbers of customers. They shouldn't be food quality and service. read more

There are limited choices in this little town, and regrettably we chose wrong. On 8-22 we went in for dinner, got menus, selected our salads and asked if we could share an entree. This seemed to take the wait person aback-she didn't know what to do. So, she brought our salads then ignored us for about 50 minutes. When served, it was one service for one, and an empty plate. Maybe that's what they do in the back country. The food was poor, the service worse, we urge you to go anywhere else. Large portions don't mean good food. read more

Hello Ok .. so I was there yesterday with my sisters and family. We were told ti was an "All you can eat Steak" night so 2 of us got the so called "All you can eat Steak" night with 1 side .. which we wer told our options were fires, poutine, cesar salad garden and some pasta..... I ordered the "steak & cesar salad" and my sister ordered the "steak and garden" ..... I asked the server how is this all you can eat because the steak was a 6 oz steak + 1 side for 16.95 and for every other oz was 1.00 more?? Does this make sense to anyone? How is this an all you can eat?? I asked her if I wanted more salad it would be more... she didn't specify how much more?? I stil dont undrstand how his is an "All you can eat Steak" night when everytime you have to pay for something and what you were paying for is beyond me as the food was DISGUSTING!! Who would want this to be an "all you can eat" ... it should be al "all you can THROW IT BACK UP"!!! UGH Anyway, we proceeded to get the worst qualty og 6 oz steak which was supposed to be a New York cut and my cesar salad was so drowned in the dressing and bacon bits I could hardly eat it, the steak was rubbery and fatty. It was so chewy that my nephew was chewing it and the spitting it out because it was so hard to swallow it down. I wished i would have taken a picture of it... it was the WORST tasting UGLY food i have ever eaten, the quality, the service, the knowedge .... some small girl came to see if we needed anything and we had a questions regarding the menu which she coudln't answer (not her fault) however ..... overall.... when the buill came... Don't waste your time. Waited 40 minutes for the waitress to even take our order. She walked by us at least 7 times. Finally had to stop her and ask her to take our order. It then went from bad to worse. Found an aluminum vodka label in the ice in my water after drinking some of it. Never got our other drinks refilled. Received the wrong order. Floor was dirty.
