I kept getting so focused on the puzzles that I would forget the zombie and they would pop up and scare me. I clung to the nearest stranger for dear life and we both screamed bloody murder. The zombie actor does an amazing job of staying in character and being a weird, nano virus, scientific accident type zombie. They move fast! We had the max number of people in our group and yet most of us "died". Only two people escaped. The puzzle wasn't super hard but having a zombie makes things much more difficult. Wear comfortable shoes because you will be running in that tiny room! My heart was pounding like crazy the entire time but in a good way! They absolutely commit to the bit and make it feel like you're on a real game show. That energy is everything, and they nailed it. The whole concept only works if they sell it and they 100% delivered. The session ran right at an hour, which felt perfect. No dragging, no awkward downtime just a clean, high-energy experience start to finish. Only heads up: drink options are pretty limited, and definitely grab everything you want before going into the game room. They say you can step out, but once things get going, there's really no natural break to do that. Overall, easy 5/5. Would absolutely do this again especially for group events. I have visited the Los Angeles/ Korea Town location in the past but only tried Cannibal's Den there and thoroughly enjoyed it. Here in the San Diego location, I was able to play the Cannibal's Den 2.0, and their Malediction room. Cannibal's Den was less cerebral puzzles and more physical puzzles that felt more like you actually escaping from a cannibal. Was it scary? Sure, but I'm used to Halloween haunted houses/mazes and enjoy those as well. This wasn't as intense as those though so this should be more accessible for those that don't enjoy jump scares. And Malediction, it's a unique game similar to a fantasy video game where you have to find something. There are magical moments that I will not spoil, and yes there are some live actors but they do not scare or attack you. Just very interactive. I have yet to play their other games at this location and can't wait! Also, Arah and Maddie were fantastic hosts. They were quite interactive especially in Malediction, their fantasy adventure themed room. And don't forget to use the restroom before you start a game! You may be in your game for a full hour depending on your skill level! And as always, have fun!

We did the Secret Vault which had a 35% passing rate. It was challenging and fun and even though we didn't escape, they did allow us 15 extra minutes with 3 more clues and we got out in 7 minutes. It was only 1 room, but it was so well thought out and some stuff that was super crazy hard, that I would have never thought of. I liked how clean everything was and well kept. I've been through some escape rooms out of the country and so I thought that this room was comparable in the level of difficulty for some parts, but for sure the puzzles were done very well. I've told a lot of my friends about this place, so I can't wait to go back with them. There's no red herrings, and the game master did very well with guiding us during the clues and was very thorough with the rules. Can't wait to go back.

You already have numerous different rules and a required liability form, so I don't see a problem with a screwdriver, something you can find in your house. TLDR: I have done 15+ rooms and this place ranks the worst I've ever done. Being OGs to the escape room scene, opening in 2014, Escape Expert should have a proven formula down. At least that is what I bet on. Oh, how wrong I was. Boasting the "largest" escape room in Texas is true. Just trying to find the bathroom in this place is hard. HOWEVER, it really is just a pitiful excuse to be expensive. Their "third generation escape room" is just a fancy phrase to say an escape room with no manual locks. I hated their escape room, Holding Cell. Their orientation room takes away from the experience. I didn't pay $30 to sit and get lectured like children for 10 minutes on about 15 different rules I could be liable for if I break. When you enter an escape room, you should feel transported into a movie or another dimension. Their room had no atmosphere. It felt like a room disguised as a cell, instead of being a cell. It just felt fake. Where was the toilet or sink the prisoner was suppose to use? Why the hell was there a blackboard on the wall? The blackboard should be a clue. The room just felt clunky. It didn't have a flow and the progression clues were poorly displayed. Progression should feel rewarding. Here, it just felt trivial and insulting. (We got the puzzle! What did we get? Oh, just a laminated card).The clues were written on LAMINATED CARDS. Like come on, be more creative. Have a scewdrive as a reward and something. On the backs, they had the location of the clues for the staff to reset the room. It was a poor attempt at an technologically advanced escape room. This is a prime example of quality over quantity. Save your money and take it to the Perfect Escape, The Escape Game, or even Red Door! Anywhere but here.

We did the Zombie themed escape room. We finished with a few minutes left, with a little help from Laurel. It's hard to review these because I don't want to give things away. The good: Laurel the manager. Clues that didn't just give you the answer, just steered you towards the thing ya overlooked. Not too hard of a room. I would sad mid level difficultly. Great production value. Variety of different puzzles to hunt. When time was running out Laurel didn't make us suffer, she let us know we already had what we were looking for and somehow put back down. Never over detailed with the clues. The not perfect: No red herrings, nothing extra in the room, what you need and is puzzle related almost stands out. But maybe not to all? WE WILL BE BACK!
