I was travelling to Kingsport for work and came across this quaint little joint. A lot of the people I know locally didn't even know it was there although some had heard good things so we decided to try it out. Nothing fancy about this place but that adds to the charm. We went on a Tuesday evening and there was only a handful of patrons at the bar and a few tables. The bartender/waitress was very friendly and attentive. She had us find a seat and was quick to get drinks and appetizer orders. The menu had many interesting items including about 10 different hot dogs and 10-15 different burgers. The food came out quickly and overall was pretty good. We had deviled eggs with pimento cheese and fried banana peppers for an appetizer. Both were large and fed multiple people. The eggs were a little disappointing because they were just hard boiled eggs hollowed out with pimento cheese put in place of the yolk. Would have been more interesting to see how it could have been made with the yolk as well. The banana peppers were tasty with a good balance of sweet and crunchy. I had the burger with spicy goat cheese and the banana peppers. Overall the burger was delicious with many layers of flavor. It's a smash patty type burger with crisp edges and cooked well done. While my preference is a thicker juicy burger, this has lots of flavor to it and the unique combinations gave everyone something to try. My side was pickle fries and these were excellent. Some of the best fried pickles I've had. Overall a delicious meal for a very reasonable price. read more

We came here on a "whim." We are, unfortunately, selling our home and we needed a place to spend some time. I've wanted to come here for a long time so we tried it. It has a cool vibe with music and attentive servers. I love the mounts on the wall. We got here around 5:20 and people kept streaming in. We started with their chili cheese fries: they were really good. They bring out a homemade ranch that is also good. I'm a spice fan, and their chili wasn't spicy, but the chili was thick and really good. Beer selection is pretty good; lots of domestic beers and some on draft. The food was very good: their fried banana peppers and fried pickles are fantastic. I had their spicy burger without a bun (sorry, no pic) and loved it. Overall, we really liked our visit. read more

Huge portions, friendly and prompt service, fresh food! There is so much to recommend about this Southern burger joint! Started with Sweet Tea, with free and plentiful refills. Our server also added ice in the middle of our meal, which is a fantastic touch! Got the Southern Caviar (pimento cheese) with Fried Pork Rinds. I did not expect a really flavorful pimento cheese with a little zip to it! My family never tried this and loved it! But, the freshly fried pork rinds were the star of the show! Served still crackling! You have to get these! We gobbled them up (it was a huge serving, too) and fought over pieces! The burgers and Sammies were just as huge and there were so many fun Southern twists on regular dishes. Like my PBLT - Pimento cheese, bacon, lettuce and a fried green tomato on Texas Toast! Wowza! I wish I had room for dessert because I am dreaming of the Elvis special this morning - Fried Peanut butter and jelly sandwich with powdered sugar and ice cream. In town for the day and decided to find a place we've never been to before. We are both really happy we picked this place. I had a 1/2 # cheese burger with fries. It was perfect. My wife had the French Dip with onion rings. She loved it. The wait staff was great. The prices are good. The decor is very rustic. I highly recommend this restaurant read more

I was there about a week ago. The waitress was busy, she had no helper. I sat at the bar during lunch time. I ordered a cheesy burger and fries. It took a while but food came and burger was lukewarm if that. The fries were next to cold. It was the first time there for me. Food could have been warmer. There were two cooks there and it seemed they were keeping some orders below the counter in back where they put food on to be taken to customers. I may go back again but if food is the same it would be the last time. read more

This is a great little place in downtown Kingsport. Nice little cozy friendly joint with cold beer and very good gastro pub type food. I had French Dip w/ Onion Rings I enjoyed it. Ok burger joint. Good selection of different burger toppings including one with a 5oz fried chicken breast. Place seemed busy but also limited seating. More than 30 minutes to get 2 burgers was bit much, but based on the cooks screaming how much he loved his job you could tell very limited kitchen staff. Once I got the "secret sauce" burgers as a whole were good. Could have been better with a little seasoning on the patty itself. Honestly wasn't impressed. First of all, employees were not following mask mandate in place in the city. Cleaning protocol could be ALOT better from what I observed. Server/bartender was far more interested in her phone, chatting up some guy who was either the manager or owner at the bar than checking on the patrons. Burger was good, but honestly I've had better where I live so my expectations were a bit higher from what I was hearing from family about great this place was. The pickle fries were great, and a different side than you'd see most places. My mom loved her burger and fried banana peppers. Dad enjoys just a plain burger and fries which he found to be pretty good. Atmosphere is very hole in the wall burger joint, but the nonchalance attitude of the staff was a bit concerning as there were a couple of other tables in there eating as well. I don't think I'll be back when in town visiting but my parents have ordered pickup already since as it's a favorite of theirs. read more

This was pretty good I have to say. I had the Deep South which is made with a fried green tomato, pimento cheese and bacon. This burger is $12 which I think is a bit pricy but the meat is thick and juicy. The only down side is I only got one piece of bacon which I feel is not enough and unfortunately it was over cooked. The onion rings are beer battered Which are my favorite and they were pretty decent and the french fries they do give you a lot of them which is really nice and they're pretty tasty. All in all I left feeling full and happy. I only gave it 4 stars because it was a bit pricy and I wasn't two pieces of bacon. read more

Where to begin. This place is the probably the best local restaurant we have in the tri cities. I've seen a lot of people on here and heard of people complaining about the price increase on their beef; however, if you shop for your own groceries like an adult or really even set foot in a grocery store, you'll see that the increase price in beef is EVERYWHERE (purple cow, McDonald's, la carreta, literally anywhere you go you will see a price increase in food right now). This is not uncommon during these times, as these LOCALLY OWNED BUSINESSES are trying to stay open and survive. If you're reading the reviews on this and care even a little bit about your neighbor and their success, you will try this place out for yourself and see that the staff are nothing but beautiful, kind, relatable people who are only trying to make a living and are very passionate about this restaurant and it shows VERY well in the quality of food. Everything is made fresh, I have never had a negative experience with the staff, and during the shut down, they went out of their way to sell their fresh meat to the public when there was a shortage. You will not find another restaurant that cares this much about the public. And anyone who has a decent head on their shoulders should support local businesses like this to ensure their future in the Tri Cities area. There's not many homegrown places like this left. Three of us visited this cute place on May 9th, 2020 (Covid time) so the service was understandably slow but the food was worth it. We ordered fried pickle spears (never had Spears, usually just fried dill chips at other places). They were good and enough to share for two people. We ordered a mac n cheese burger. You will not be disappointed. The burger was cooked to perfection and the Mac n cheese is warm and such a huge portion on top of the meat patty. Our side was fried which was enough for three people. They were cooked just right and not too greasy or salty. We also had a mushroom and Swiss burger, again perfectly cooked. The service was friendly and the place was clean. The bathrooms are unique. I'll start with, It truly is the best Burger I've had in the TriCities! The service was outstanding as well. Waitress was very attentive and friendly. The owner came to our table to check on us. The atmosphere is very eclectic and bar, but you feel comfortable bringing in the kids to eat. I had the mushroom Swiss burger. The burger was meaty and juicy. They hand pat their patties from fresh ground beef. It's big enough to fill me up, and I'm 6'4" and 250 lbs. Every part of the burger is gourmet. Fresh bun that stands up to the juiciness without going soggy. The cheese was much better than average and mushrooms were not the canned type, definitely also hand cut. The other 5 members of our party got other sandwiches, the Philly cheese steak, BBQ, 2 cheesy pigs, and the chicken sandwich. All of them gave rave reviews to the other sandwiches. I had the chicken sandwich, and it was really good...grilled to perfection with great flavor. The bun was fresh and toasted. For my side I went with the fries, and they were the "raw cut" with the skins left on; they were also very good. The only reason I'm not giving 4 or 5 stars is that the staff seemed oblivious to the pandemic and the business wear mask orders from not only Sullivan County but the TN Governor. My experience there wasn't stellar. The service was good. Food came at a decent pace. I didn't like the fries but I know some people like them like that. Fresh handcut style. I find them to be usually low on flavor and soft. These were no exception. I personally don't want my fries to wiggle. They should be crisp on the outside and mash potatoey on the inside. That's a personal thing though. so I'm not deducting points for it. I am however taking off 3 stars for the burger itself. The Bun was ok and the fixins were fresh. The meat itself was subpar. It was a bit gamey. Hey!, maybe that's why its called backwoods, I just now realized that. Also there was way too much gristle for one burger. 5 pieces, 3 of which were too large and hard to eat. Had to pull em out of my mouth. Luckily I was eating alone. The burger was cooked exactly how I asked for it so at least someone knows what they are doing on the grill. Bottom line though, any place with burger in the name should have pretty high quality beef. It's a shame the product buyer there doesn't realize that. P.s. I know I should have complained on the spot but for whatever reason I didn't. They may have been horrified there was gristle in their gamey meat. Wouldn't know about the food... As a party of 9, we sat in the restaurant for 35 mins without even an acknowledgement! The owner cleaned the table for us. From then on the waitress ignored us. She cleaned every table around us and continued to take orders of others who came in after us. She never made eye contact and had a scowl too. Finally we decided that maybe tonight wouldn't be our night, so we left. As we stood to leave and walked out, two waitresses and the owner continued to ignore us as we walked right by them.
