Unless you're coming from the east, you will never see any signs for this Adobe looking building. I drove by 2 times before seeing the place. I stopped in on my 2nd time to visit Magnolia and saw they were famous for their ribs, but some reviews indicated they were hit or miss. On top of that, the ribs are pretty pricy and start at around $32 on the menu. There are many photos on the wall of what appear to be mostly family members and articles from newspaper and magazines they have been featured in, Southern Living (2 times), and an Arkansas newspaper. I decided to order the brisket sandwich, the banana pudding, pecan cream cheese pie, and an iced tea. This already was $28 after tax. The brisket sandwich is just okay. It's a pretty standard chopped beef sandwich with plenty of meat pre-slatherer in bbq sauce, and it is not fresh chop. The pecan cream cheese pie is really good. I was able to finish all of it. The banana pudding is very good, just a little on the sweet side for me. Even though it was in the cooler, it was still warm, so I know it was freshly made. They have a drive through which seems to be pretty popular. The interior was pretty quiet as I was the only customer that was dining in during my lunch visit. Service is friendly as they have a young staff working the front and apparently the kitchen as well. read more

It used to be if you called in to order bbq you could be hours from the time to pick it up. This place was always soooo busy! This time we called and were told we could pick it up in 10 mins. Yeah even this Mecca to BBQ is suffering. Just not as many people risking getting takeout. However we did! And the chopped brisket was better then ever. No sides this time.. but 4lbs of chopped meat... been eating bbq sandwiches for a while and loving it! Everyone in here is being careful. We picked up and brought it home. Then did the deal of wiping down containers, transferring food to other containers, microwaving food... and the whole mess... but it was worth it!! Ohhh my Goddie the BBQ is tooooo Hottie!! The crowd tells the story. We stopped in for dinner on a work trip. There was a good number of people here which is a good sign. I went with the loaded baked potato with beans. My coworkers shared the ribs. Holy cow was this a huge meal. After the three of us were done, there was still enough food for one or two more people! Everything was really good. The beans on the baked potato had a lot of chopped up brisket in them and a sweet taste. The ribs were very tender and smoky. While we left stuffed and happy I had to get a slice of their famous pies. The Lemon Icebox pie was amazing. All around a great meal. read more

Wow, I got their smoked Turkey Sandwich with all the fixings and it was a sight to behold. It was the BIGGEST turkey sandwich I have ever been a part of, and let me tell ya...I polished that masterpiece up! It was very good. The Jezzie sauce that came with it was a really good addition. Just like Yelp nation detailed, the baked beans are unique and I loved them!! To combat some other Yelper's concerns: The place was a little dirty (had to wipe some sauce off my seat) but who cares when the food is that good. I also had to wait a little bit for my sandwich (maybe 5-10mins) but once again, who cares. They were out of the banana dessert but that ended up being a blessing after that turkey sandwich sent me into a food coma. The service was very nice and I had no issues with the girls that worked there. They do not have pulled Proj which is my usual goto, but that has allowed me to try their other specialties. You cannot go wrong here. Update: Have been back and I am still in love with this place. You know it's bad, when the gal asks you, "have you been here, like three nights in a row" lol, yup, sure have!! I got their pork sandwich plate two days in a row and they had the pork chopped instead of sliced which I was all over. The pork was pure bliss, super flavor, no fat, fresh and very moist. Unassuming on the outside but clean and welcoming on the outside. Order at the counter was quick and friendly. I ordered the pork loin sandwich plate with the cole slaw and baked beans. I was excited to try the beans as other yelpers had raved about them. The pork was great and the roll was tasty, tons of meat. The slaw was good and not too runny. First off, I want to say there is absolutely nothing wrong with the food and the desserts are awesome (the coconut pie is my personal favorite). With that being said, where they lost stars from me is the fact that I've been there more than once when they were not open at the time they have posted as their open. I heard a lot of bad things about this place but after going there to investigate myself, the only thing I found was the prices are a little steep for the local economy but the food is awesome. You should know up front, the food is 5 stars. If you are in Magnolia, this is the place to eat. I got a rack of ribs, coleslaw, and baked beans to go. I was traveling on business alone, so I took it back to my hotel room. The ribs were spectacular - great smoke flavor, moist, fantastic. The baked beans were loaded with ground beef and they are sweet. I demolished those beans. The coleslaw is EXACTLY the way I love it, freshly shredded and only lightly dressed. The only reason I didn't give the 5th star is because I could not buy a half rack of ribs. I was forced to buy a full rack and I couldn't possibly eat that much. It broke my heart to leave the leftovers in the hotel fridge. I couldn't bring myself to put those delicious ribs in the trash. I would rather envision housekeeping coming tomorrow and discovering a half rack of awesome ribs left behind and eating them. If they threw them out, at least I don't know. read more

Absolutely love the food here! It is amazing and the pies are legendary! It's a little pricier than I prefer to pay but it is definitely an amazing place to eat. I always recommend it to people who are new in town and visiting. I hate that they are closed on Monday because that always seems to be when I crave it the most but if you don't mind paying a little more than usual, this is THE BEST! So, as much as I'd like love to believe the town in which I've previously resided and grew up in, I'm ashamed to see how there's really been no growth from racism and ignorance. From the young lady's comments towards the young lady who no longer works there, it doesn't matter to them that she isn't because she isn't white and can easily be replaced in their eyes. Black, purple, blue, brown, red, rainbow or alien, no one should have to experience such unprofessionalism (internal customer or external customer). The even more crazy part, the sweet woman who makes their pies is a woman of color and this sickens me. If you appreciate your hard earned dollar, I'd take it elsewhere where you know it will be flow through more appreciative, respectful and grateful hands than these. Smh. It's 2019 tho. read more

This is the best barbecue I've ever had. I've had barbecue in L.A., Kansas City, all over Texas, and in Alabama. The ribs are fantastic. The beans have meat in them, and they're really good (and spicy). The cold slaw is pretty good. My husband loves the catfish. The corn on the cob is good, too. They have delicious desserts. The only problem with it is that sometimes it's very crowded. Don't go there on a Saturday before noon if you want ribs because they won't be ready yet. If you really enjoy savoring the flavor of brisket that's been rubbed with a proprietary spice blend and smoked over hardwood for 12-18 hours until the tough connective tissue is dissolved by the low heat, making a formerly tough cut of meat fork-tender... if you drool thinking about the magical combination of smoke, sugar, salt, and secret seasoning blends, and how they alchemistically form a most delicious crust, something akin to meat candy... if you recognize the smoke ring as evidence of hours of loving dedication, craftsmanship, and yes, love -- gone into the preparation of SMOKED meat... if you know that at a BBQ joint, the meat should stand on its own... then keep driving. I'd have really liked to try a sliced brisket sandwich, maybe with some pulled pork and sausage on the side. Or just some sliced, smoked brisket with some spicy bark. Or really any kind of BBQ combo plate like you can get at a BBQ restaurant. Or even just some nice, flavorful brisket with a few sides. Sorry, you can't get that here. You can, however, get macerated meat sludge in sauce. You can get shredded beef in sauce mounded on a bun or packed into a plastic box: On a platter or by the pound. Just to be crystal clear: you can't get it without the sauce. I don't know why, maybe it's boiled in sauce in the kitchen? Is it even smoked or do they just put meat and sauce in a pan in the oven? Every BBQ place I've been to, all across the country, is proud of their product, and by product I mean meat. Some don't even offer sauce. This is the only one I've been to where sauce is mandatory. You can't even choose sliced or chopped. It's all shredded in sauce. I shared a pound of beef with my friend, an amount we'd have easily put down at another 'cue shop. However, this sad meat did not inspire our appetites. We ate only enough to stave off hunger, purposefully saving room for dinner, 6 hours away. So long, $40.... Being generous with 2 stars because the food was at least edible. read more

The food isn't bad, but the service for take away is AWFUL. clearly, there is no one involved in running the business who has any idea how to Run a business. I placed a pick-up order on the phone. I was told it would be 25 minutes. I arrived 25 minutes later. When I finally got to the window, I sat for another 30 minutes (with cars lined up behind me). I was told "he's cutting the meat" for the order, an order I had called in an hour earlier! My best advice: you can live without the frustration. The food is not that good. Now an hour and a half after I called in the order I'm still waiting at the pickup window. They took my money and are still holding my food. One star because Yelp won't allow no stars. read more

The ribs here are some of the best ribs I have ever eaten. Up there with Phil's in San Diego, Central in Memphis, and Oklahoma Joes in Kansas City. They are incredibly tender, they fall off the bone, but have a perfect char on the outside. Great flavor even without sauce. Love it. One other huge plus is their baked beans side. It isn't traditional by any means. It's slightly spicy baked beans with hamburger meat with a hint of sweetness. I highly recommend you try them. I Only rate them four stars because, like other posters have mentioned, it's really expensive. For the area, it's super expensive($25 for one rack). Also, they don't have pulled pork, just pork loin. The sauces they have are ok-- but the jalapeño "ketchup" is really unique. Pretty spicy, with a thicker tomato base than the BBQ. It also takes forever for them to make the food. If you order take out for ribs, they won't prep the ribs till you arrive. Thus, you could call an hour ahead and it wouldn't matter. Sometimes it can take 1-2 hours. I'd advise eating in. So I travel the country for work. And I happen to really enjoy BBQ. So when I go some place and they say "it's worth the 45 minute drive" (I was in El Dorado at the time), then I figure I will give it a shot. A few thoughts. It would be nice if they offered ribs in a half-rack, or more bbq options aside from ribs and sandwiches. Sometimes people just want brisket or pulled pork, or just half ribs! I drove all that way, figured I'd get the whole rack anyway rather than just a plain ol sandwich. Overall, I thought the ribs were pretty good. To be fair I went for dinner and it sounds like lunch may be the best time to get them fresh. But the ribs were ok. Sides were ok. Atmosphere was ok. Definitely not good enough to drive back to again, but not worth complaining about either... just, pretty good. read more

I get to the drive thru and after several calls and being told it will right out, 2 hours later they bring my food out and then David, refuses to give us any compensation. Went here at the suggestion of a coworker while I was working in the area. Ordered the brisket plate w/ beans and potato salad plus a piece of pecan pie for carryout. I can't comment on the brisket because when I opened my container I had been given the pulled pork instead. Not a huge deal, it was still delicious, tender, lightly-sauced with extra sauce on the side, and a good portion size for the cost. I would have preferred a heavier smoke, but I'm used to KC bbq. The beans had great flavor, but there was a textural component I couldn't quite place that seemed like ground bacon or maybe fine bacon bits. It gave the beans an odd texture, I'd maybe suggest using larger chunks of bacon to remedy that, but the taste was spot on. I found the potato salad underseasoned for my taste, it was more like slightly chunky mashed potatoes without any dominant mayonnaise or vinegar tang. The star of the meal, however, had to be the pecan pie. There is a big pie cooler behind the counter full of homemade pies. I didn't make it past the pecan to see specifically what else they had, but the meringues were abundant. Hands down this had to be the best pecan pie I've ever had. I'm not much for dessert nor do I typically gush over such things, but whoever is making these pies has the pecan nailed. The crust was thin, light and flaky, but didn't fall apart. The filling was flavorful, but not heavy like a typical pecan pie filling. It was light and almost custard-like. The pecan topping was aces, it was similar to a toasted pecan brittle. You had to crack your fork through the topping like a brulee and it was the perfect flavor of toasty, sweetened pecans, the texture of which was a great contrast to the filling. I would buy an entire pie if I were you. Other things I noticed - this is a fairly small city, and the place was pretty busy around 4:30 on a weekday with both dine-in and carryout customers.
