This is the Food Lion shopping center on Hope Valley Road in Durham, officially called Woodcroft Shopping Center. Neither of us had heard of WBU until discovering this store. There are six locations in the Triangle. There are three in the Triad where I grew up and 12 in metro Atlanta where we also call home. WBU sells bird feeders, bird food, nesting boxes, bird baths, and other associated hardware and accessories. My wife saw a hummingbird outside one of the living room windows of our upper-floor apartment. Therefore, we ended up getting a Mosaic Birds (Couronne Company) brand hummingbird feeder ($26.99) and WBU hummingbird and oriole nectar (8 oz for $3.99). To go on top of the feeder, to keep ants away from the nectar, we got a "Trap It" ant trap ($7.99). After tax, everything was $41.89 to start feeding hummingbirds on our balcony. The feeder was an immediate success! While eating dinner one evening, around sunset, I spotted a hummingbird going to town on the nectar. The next evening, my wife and I had a blast watching different hummingbirds take turns feeding. We knew they were different based on their color (e.g. one hummingbird's neck was white) and size. There was a relatively small hummingbird that struggled with finding the nectar at first - it kept trying to insert its beak and tongue from the side, but it finally found one of the holes on top. After three days, about a third of the nectar in the feeder was gone. The items from WBU were totally worth the money. Customer service was great. There were two young female employees that looked like they were high school or college students. Both were very nice and very helpful. Thank you! This is WBU store #332. There ought to be a sign posted…read more Walking into Wild Birds Unlimited, I nearly tripped over a squirrel running across the sidewalk away from the birdbath set up outside the store. Right after that near-escape with my dignity intact, a bird flew past, close enough I could hear its wings flapping, headed toward the same birdbath. Two near misses in 30 seconds. I liked this store already. Catering to the backyard bird enthusiast, or even the casual bird watcher, Wild Birds Unlimited has a really nice selection of bird feeders of all kinds and even a few bird baths and bird houses - including for bats and owls. The feeders are all well made. There's little chance they'll fall apart after one filling. And if you're like me, fighting an often-losing battle keeping squirrels out of your bird feeder, you'll find a pretty nice selection of squirrel proof feeders here. You'll even find a few feeders that are bacteria resistant so as to help you keep your wild feathered friends healthy. If watching birds is something you like to do, but would rather not stand or sit at the window or door all day, you can buy a small birdwatchers camera to hook up to your TV. They advertised it for using with owls, but it would probably work anywhere. And last but not least, the bird food. There's a large selection of food: seeds, meal worms, fruit, to attract nearly any type of bird. For a store located in a concrete and blacktop wasteland to take the time to create a mini-oasis outside their front door, complete with bird bath and bird feeders, should tell you they're serious about their business.

My experience with Little Birdie's customer service was great. I give the owners 5/5 for their friendliness and promptness. When you come to pick up your order, you're greeted by free range chickens and the chicks are kept in poultry raising racks inside a building to the side. The chickens we have from here (buff orpingtons) are healthy and were clean. They eat well, drink well, and grew well. They're nice looking; somewhere between my TS "homely egg maker orpingtons" and my pretty English type orpingtons. The part that I'm very not excited about and why I decided to rate them 3 stars, is that their temperament is... weird, for orpingtons. They're flighty and skittish to the point we're it is dangerous for them as they scatter and fly into the sides of the coop and run when we come in for chores, or to check on the built in brooder. They don't come back to their coop and instead cower under stuff or try to get out of the pasture , so we built a pen to keep them safe. I thought age would help, and I sit with my chickens daily, talk to them, plus feed them treats. All of my chickens are friendly, except my LBH orpingtons, who hate people and are honestly kind of feral and unlike any orpington I have met or owned. They're unbanded and I haven't tried clipping their wings because I think they may keel over from a heart attack if I try to handle them. When we need to move them for cleaning, we patiently shepherd them to and adjacent holding pen with the poop scoop and a bucket of worms; all my other chickens if we need to move them, we just load up in a laundry basket and carry them around like it's no biggie. They're good chickens, except we specifically like orpingtons because they're easy to handle and usually friendly even for kids. So we keep them because they make eggs, but they're definitely not "normal" for their breed and will probably go on to freezer camp as soon as their egg laying slows down.

The website is detailed and has a link to make appointments. We have purchased chicks from this hatchery several times over the years. We have experienced no issues with any of the chicks. Each of them has been female and healthy. Ann is patient and welcoming. When I was new to raising chickens she answered my questions. In addition to chicks, I occasionally purchase chick feed and wood chips. Over the years they have added more breeds and items including adorable chicken themed gifts. The tea towels are particularly tempting.
