I'm not sure what had me most interested about coming to this area... was it the red and white…read morestriped lighthouse tower (not many can boast having this)... or was it the fact that we were standing on soil that is the absolute easternmost point of the continental United States. How many people do you know could claim that they've done THAT ??????? At first, before we even accomplished this, my husband said to me, "who cares" when I stated what we could claim. I looked at him and said, "Are you kidding? This is gonna be really cool"... the easternmost point in the entire (continental U.S.). Anyway, he didn't get it... and then he did it, and now, HE's the one going around saying how we accomplished this... and I just sit here laughing and saying, "I told you it'd be so cool." I love that we actually did this, and I love how we belong to this small "club" of people who can claim that they set foot onto the easternmost spot of the continental U.S. (My only regret is that I didn't stop at one of the Lubec souvenir shops to buy a t-shirt or some other item to commemorate this activity.)

The first half this direction is a little hillier, and there are lots of spur trails out to scenic overlooks. Once you get to the overlooking ok, there is a nice bench to sit on, and steps up to an observation platform. Then you continue on a flat, wheelchair accessible trail to the parking lot.

However, nothing could prepare us for our encounter with the true hosts of the park. The mosquitoes . No amount of deet would keep them off. To make matters worse, the park showers were very old, a bit creepy and open to mosquitoes flying in. You basically have to shower and fight mosquitoes at the same time. Brush up on your Kung foo skills before arrival. There are many beautiful locations in and around this park. However, in my honest opinion the setting is similar to a plethora of other coastal locations in Maine (not as far north and less mosquito infested). If visiting in July be sure to come prepared with a good repellent and try to avoid using the park showers if possible.

There are lakes, streams, ponds, scenic lighthouses, boats, bikes, trails, gardens, crazy hikes with vertical iron rungs, rolling forest hikes, lighthouses, and more! The main issue you'll run into is crowds.. lots of people want to come here, especially in July and August. Best thing to do, go in as early as possible, do some things, take a break, go back again after 3. If you're early, you can get a parking spot then work from there. If you are flexible on time, take advantage of the shuttles, but be warned, they may be full, and they don't run every 10-15 minutes, so plan accordingly. I would be in the park by 7, have plans maybe on a tour in Bar Harbor late morning or early afternoon, then head back after 4, and I got to all the must-do's, ie hiked the Beehive, the Bubbles, Cadillac Mountain sunrise and sunset (reserve this early as spots sell out, I booked mine 3 months in advance the minute they released and they were sold out shortly later, especially sunrise tickets), Jordan Pond and popovers, Bass Harbor Lighthouse, as well as some boat tours in the area, including very successful whale and puffin watching. For more hints and tips, I watched some YouTube videos, there's great info out there, especially the videos from Ash, a former park ranger, who has loads of helpful tips to get around and not spend your trip sitting in traffic or waiting in a parking spot.

It is a very soothing and welcoming sound which I do not think I would ever tire of. It was difficult in some spots to walk as the rocks can be a foot or more deep, but with my snow boots on it was manageable. I am not sure how it would be barefoot or with sandals, but I would certainly give it a go. No restrooms or other amenities. A wonderful Maine spot with amazing scenery and beauty.

Outside of the traditional basalt, granite, etc. that New England beaches tend to provide, Jasper also offers sea snail and crab shells, drift wood, and the occasional beach glass/pottery. After the overcrowded Sandy Beach (south of Bar Harbor in Acadia N.P.), Jasper was a welcome calm and solitude. I would have stayed for more than two hours, however, the only drawback--for anyone, frankly--is the lack of facilities. No fresh water or bathroom within :15 to :20. If you or your family can handle that, Jasper Beach is definitely worth a visit!

There is parking or you can come in the Island Shuttle that stops here. Then at night, on Sundays and Wednesdays, weather permitting, the Park Rangers put on an excellent Stargazing program to do. I came and really enjoyed it. But dress warm, bring chairs or a blanket to sit on. Whether you are visiting day or night, this beach does not disappoint !

We weren't prepared to go swimming but we still walked the beach and took some pictures. A lot of people were there to swim and it was pretty crowded. The air was chilly so I was surprised how many people were swimming but maybe the water was warm. I didn't notice lifeguards but there was a park ranger circulating. Plus bathrooms and changing rooms up top. At night they had a stargazing program here which we came back for which was ranger led and honestly one of my favorite memories of the trip.

There are trash cans, plenty of benches and a couple of picnic tables to use while your kiddos burn some energy. There is a small parking lot by the park, or I'm assuming you could park across the street by the ball field. There are also hooks to hang jackets or diaper bags. No dogs allowed - which even as a dog owner/lover, I prefer for kid parks because not everyone cleans up after their fur kids, and I don't want to have to worry about that nonsense when letting my kid play. Also, there is one of those "free library" cases out front. Love seeing these pop up all over the place. I didn't get to peek at what was inside, but love the idea. But anyway, great park! Wish I would've stumbled upon it earlier in our week here!

However, such Soft Power Diplomacy can also take more bilateral forms, in which two sovereign states emphasize their mutual contributions over the years, with the motivating principle being that a history of good relations makes for a future of good relations. Funded by the governments of the two participating countries, Campobello Island's Roosevelt Campobello International Park (located in New Brunswick, Canada) provides a fruitful and demonstrative example of positive bilateral relations that are maintained through Soft Power Diplomacy of this type. Occasionally, as with many historical museums in its genre, the more problematic aspects of history are swept under the rug (such as FDR's emergence as a rising star in the Democratic Party at a time when it was known largely as a party of southern segregationists such as Woodrow Wilson and Josephus Daniels, or - also a thorny issue - FDR's wartime persecution of Japanese-Americans). To address these matters, however, is not the point of this museum. Rather, it is to build on FDR's reputation as a wartime president who overcame great odds (both personal and political) and in so doing to emphasize goodwill between Canada and the United States. In this, the Roosevelt Campobello National Park is successful. Guided tours are provided of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's summer home, and there is a Living History presentation available by an actor portraying First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, herself elevated to legendary status as one of the most powerful and influential First Ladies of the United States in history. Both of these features are conveniently close to the park-and-museum's in-house restaurant and cafe, on the lower floor of a lovely little cottage overlooking the water. In the main lobby and gift shop are placards that discuss Canada's aid to stranded American travelers during 9/11 as well as both wartime military cooperation and peacetime agreements between Canada and the United States (such as USMCA, the renegotiated version of NAFTA developed and ratified under the prior US presidential administration). This park and museum are worth attending, though with the same critical thought that ought to be applied in any Public History setting. In this case, Public History serves as an item in both countries' diplomatic toolkit. To this purpose, the museum and park certainly achieve their intent.

You need to pay to park but not after 9:00 pm. There are restrooms conveniently located near the parking area. During the summer the sun rises at 4:00 am and sets around 8:00 pm. It provides for secular evening photos. The gazebo was so beautiful. I would like to do a family photo here next time.

It's probably the best view in Bar Harbor. it is a popular viewing point for tourists. locals say- it is a popular viewpoint to watch the Fourth of July fireworks each year. This is such a peaceful spot to look out at the ships anchored in Frenchman Bay as well as the many islands near Bar Harbor. Grab a space on the lawn to relax or have a picnic and enjoy the view.
