I'm not sure what had me most interested about coming to this area... was it the red and white…read morestriped lighthouse tower (not many can boast having this)... or was it the fact that we were standing on soil that is the absolute easternmost point of the continental United States. How many people do you know could claim that they've done THAT ??????? At first, before we even accomplished this, my husband said to me, "who cares" when I stated what we could claim. I looked at him and said, "Are you kidding? This is gonna be really cool"... the easternmost point in the entire (continental U.S.). Anyway, he didn't get it... and then he did it, and now, HE's the one going around saying how we accomplished this... and I just sit here laughing and saying, "I told you it'd be so cool." I love that we actually did this, and I love how we belong to this small "club" of people who can claim that they set foot onto the easternmost spot of the continental U.S. (My only regret is that I didn't stop at one of the Lubec souvenir shops to buy a t-shirt or some other item to commemorate this activity.)

Came here for the 2026 eclipse…read more Parking is free but there is a per head entry fee. Cash only. Honor system. Dogs must be on a 4' leash The coast guard trail goes to a scenic overlook - I recommend starting at the lighthouse and going counter clockwise. The first half this direction is a little hillier, and there are lots of spur trails out to scenic overlooks. Once you get to the overlooking ok, there is a nice bench to sit on, and steps up to an observation platform. Then you continue on a flat, wheelchair accessible trail to the parking lot.

This is not exactly a park-- a bridge and a viewing platform go over the falls. You park your car…read moreright at the falls and can wander around. There are a few benches, etc. It's very pretty! It's fun to watch the birds flying and perching over the falls.

If you manage to venture all the way up to northern Maine make sure to stop in Machias to see this…read moresmall park and the magnificent falls here. Machias means "Bad Little Falls" in the native Passamaquoddy language. While these falls aren't the biggest, they are still plenty strong and mighty. The Passamaquoddy may have thought they were "bad" because even a small waterfall can make for a dangerous situation. The Machias river and these falls provide sights and sounds not to be missed. You can find the park not far from the center of town and right off of Route 1. Pull into the small parking area and you will hear the roar of the falls immediately. These falls were once instrumental in helping generate electricity for the area. The original granite marker for the Machias Electric Company still stands in the park area. These falls are beautiful and powerful. The water looks to be a copper color which I'm guessing results from the minerals in the surrounding rocks. There are generally no crowds to speak of here although it is a wonderful place in which to spend some time. Bring a picnic lunch and sit at one of the tables provided nearby and revel in the incredible sound of the rushing water.
