I was driving hours for an interstate move, and booked a place near Calais, ME, as a treat to be kind to myself. Bear Mountain Lodge -It was Expedia US -Itinerary 72066545672181 The lodge was down a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, and luckily it was too early for snow. After self-check in at around 11 PM, and taking a quick bath, and shock at the number of manky old dead animal skins nailed to the walls, I got into bed. An insect bit me straight away on the foot. I got up to check it, a WELT, and to my utter shock--just like a HORROR movie--then the power went out. There were two buildings, the lights went out all over, every light in both buildings. I rapidly dressed, scooped up my things, in a high state of TERROR, and used my phone flashlight to make it to my car. Some unknown man was in the parking lot, and despite his claim (likely true) to be the propietor, it was the middle of the pitch dark woods in Maine, nowhere, and I was an older woman traveling alone. I drove straight to the nearest Wmart parking lot and slept upright in the driver's seat of the car. I had no cell service near Canada, until I got WIFI the next morning, they had texted to move me but then ghosted my refund request. I TRUSTED Expedia to provide a safe, clean lodging booking. There was a bug, dead animals likely full of bugs, NO POWER, and I wasn't warned. I've spent at least $100K on Expedia over the years (Paris, Oslo, Wales, London, and the US and more), never needed customer service, and their response is to offer me a $25 credit toward a future stay. I will NEVER use Expedia again and though BML has good photos and reviews, I would say AVOID the Coyote Room and the lodge due to their lack of CUSTOMER SERVICE (if they are so strapped for ca$h they can't provide good customer service, and as the place was a bit shabby, dirty and not well-maintained, expect them not to care about the little guy or gal). And by the way, when I check my right foot, sure enough, there was a raised bump on my foot. Stay away. read more

We stayed a week in the Moose room. Very nice. We loved taking the ATVs out. Trails are rocky and fun. Full kitchen with everything for cooking a full meal as well as grills, fire pit, pool table, workout room with free weights and a lake. Plenty to do. Wonderful, relaxing place to stay. Warm and welcoming owners. Highly recommend. read more
