I would like to start this review off with how bummed I was I didn't get to sit inside this place, because it's beautiful. The couches and chandeliers and neon sign created the perfect ambience but by no fault of the restaurant (it was my mom's), we ended up outside. Outside on the sidewalk was still pretty great, though, because I got to enjoy some awesome views of Edinburgh Castle while sipping on a sublime cocktail. It had pomegranate seeds and mint and grapefruit and was incredibly delicious. For dinner, I had the gnocchi, which wasn't too dense for my liking, on a bed of spinach which was surprisingly really refreshing. If I ever come back to Edinburgh (which I hope I do), I really want to come back--sipping one of those cocktails again, this time inside the beautiful restaurant, will be a long-held dream of mine. read more

Made reservations for here at 5:45pm to have Sunday Roast. The entrance way and decor on the inside is warm, inviting and a bit posh. The table we were sat at had nice leather lounger chairs. To our dismay, they told us they were all out of Sunday roast this evening which was our reason for coming. We did enjoy two of the pies (haddock and steak/onion) as well as the haddock croquettes and scallops. Meal was nice and the pies were good and rustic. Not sure if I'd return with better options out there, but the one experience was nice. read more

Cozy spot with great vibes and decor. Loved the music as well! It's pretty quiet inside, so it's a great place for groups. I split the steak and ale pie, beef dripping chips, and the ox cheek macaroni. The macaroni was definitely a highlight. Quite a lot of meat in the pasta! The pie itself was also huge. Cute interior, nice touch of history. Service can be quick or slow, might be useful to have an idea regarding what you'd like to eat. On a weekend night you're probably best off with reservations but you might be able to slip in with 1 or 2. Venison was okay but the beef pie was far tastier. Mag's Mess and the sticky toffee were both good but as always you're paying a premium for a restaurant dessert. read more

It can be hard to find a table in a restaurant in Edinburgh during the high tourist season. Thankfully, this restaurant is big enough that there's usually not a wait. The food here isn't anything super special, but it's all solidly good, and the prices are right. Beautiful decor, too. And it's a great place for families with kids. If you have a large group, you might inquire after Badger & Co's private party rooms. Note: The restrooms are located downstairs, and I don't remember there being a lift, so it might not be a great option for people with physical disabilities. read more

A most-certainly cozy restaurant for a chilly winter evening. Relatively quiet, with nice ambience, a vibrating floor in the lounge, and enchanting Wind and the Willows theme adorning the walls and decor. Staff are okay, the head waitress was a bit abrupt, but barman and main waitress were cool. Xmas food was a bit sparse and unsatisfying. For the price paid I didn't walk away satisfied. Alcohol and boring dessert menu are very expensive, hot beverages reasonably priced. Would recommend for atmosphere but not for quality of food. read more

Excellent breakfast location in New Town with plenty of seating. The small menu does not feel limited, rather it provides a few choices to make your morning simpler. Something for everyone, to include fresh baked, warm croissants that could compete with Venice. As a testament to the great service, we noticed the bartender breaking immaculately clear blocks of ice, assuming for drinks later that evening. When asked, he not only described the process of making the ice but also explained the importance of clear Ice to a proper drink! read more

The first place we went on arriving in Edinburgh, as per its yelp rating. Breakfast was very good, I can recommend the scrambled eggs with the large breakfast. I absolutely love this place! In the first place I love "The Wind in the Willows" so the theme was already enticing (which I must add they pulled off extremely well), but the food was also outstanding. We all had the Sunday Roast and I really can't think of a single complaint. Reasonably priced, excellent food, charming decor and very good service. A BREAKFAST REVIEW was a first for me and I had heard positive things about Badger & Co. prior to this morning's visit. The Signature Pub Group spent a cool £1.35m to give this former office block on Castle Street a swank make-over, and first impressions suggested this was money well spent, but will the food live up to the smart interior design job? This restaurant come bar (or bar come restaurant) pays homage to Kenneth Grahame, author of The Wind in the Willows, who was once housed here and I'm fortunate enough to get the grand tour from a very professional and efficient waiter, Art. The beer garden looks a tasty spot to sample a delightful cocktail list and I'm a little bit gutted that it's only 10 a.m.; sampling will require another visit. There is also a private dining space that Art explains can be used for parties, slightly more formal dinners, or even just to watch the footie on the big projector screen and drink a few beers with mates. It's a fun looking space, indeed. I believe Signature are Scotland's only remaining independent pub chain and have added Badger & Co. to their other nearby ventures, Element and Copper Blossom, as well as their flagship venue, The Rutland Hotel to name but a few. I've always admired their interiors and this space has achieved a cool, spacious vibe that has been very tastefully constructed. Without waffling on (I hate when restaurant reviewers do that), the point I'm trying to make is that this lot know what they're doing. With that in mind, let's eat. I went for 'The Full Sett' which came with a lofty price tag of £11, on par with my favourite breakfast spot, Noble's. Expectations were high as a result, so it had better be up there. What was essentially a full English arrived on a very pretty looking plate sporting bacon from the Border's, pork sausage, a fried duck egg, a roasted vine tomato, two Portobello mushrooms, toasted rye bread and the house baked beans. The rich and creamy egg was expertly cooked and provided a fine sauce for the meaty components, both of which were of satisfying quality. The 'shrooms brought an earthy, nuttiness and were perfectly cooked, while the tomato brought a slight acidity and freshness. The bread was delicious and I appreciated the pre-buttering. The beans were the standout component for me; they needed a little salt but that tinge of paprika just elevated this from a very good breakfast to an outstanding one. My only gripe was that the pretty plate wasn't very practical when it came to eat from it, as it slid around the table when I tried to cut up Sarah went for beans on toast (£5.50) and added poached eggs and sausage for an extra £2 each. "I don't know who ended got the better end of the deal here, Phil", proclaimed Art when he delivered our grub. I could see what he was getting at when Sarah's mound of beans and mushrooms arrived on top of the toast, enhanced by a generous duo of duck eggs and a couple of bangers. £5.50 alone would have represented great value such was the quality of the dish. I'm not always mad on mushrooms but in this instance, they were very tasty and respectfully cooked. The extra add-ons created a huge portion that Sarah regretfully couldn't finish... It would be rude for me not to have. I couldn't help but notice a pair of office workers at the table up from us compliment their breakfast and thank Art for his efforts - it's important to see other diners receive a similar standard of experience. The bar was set high at the beginning of this meal but they were met in every way. The outstanding knowledge of the food and exemplary service was equally matched by excellent cooking and ingredients and the surroundings were truly a happy place to dine in. Wow! Man, did I stumble upon a real gem! After a leisurely stroll through Princes Street Gardens, I looked for breakfast places near me, and Badger & Co came up. Okay, sold. On a grey yet mild July morning, I walked into the former home of Kenneth Grahame (whoa! Childhood throwback!!!), and was immediately greeted with a genuine and pleasant smile by the lovely lady who was to be my server, Olivia. Torn between several items on the menu, Olivia steered me toward the DELICIOUS bacon butty, which paired well with my freshly made flat white. Not only were the eats to die for, the atmosphere was beautiful and spotlessly clean. Historic building, great atmosphere, friendly service, awesome food, cool location... What else could you ask for?? (Well, maybe different music- the soundtrack of contemporary pop was, to me, incongruous with the setting, but maybe it's just because I abhor the genre.) Regardless, if you get off your plane in Edinburgh early in the morning and need a nice and well-priced brekkie, head here. read more

An inviting, low key gastropub with unique and tasty menu options. I had a light and flavorful meal of cod with a sort of mashed potato and sautéed vegetables, which turned out to include broccoli, a kind of shredded leaves, and a yellow vegetable (squash?) that tasted divine. The battered seafood entree with Vietnamese sauce was only passable, but the meat pie was also very good, a comfort food if there ever was one. Thanks to other Yelp reviews we ran in here on Stephens day for lunch. We honestly hesitated for a minute or two at the door as it looks a bit exclusive but eventually braved it and crossed the threshold! We were so pleasantly surprised, it's a charming unassuming little eatery, with comfy seats and friendly staff. I ordered the vegetarian gnocchi and my husband had the game pie, both were really delicious, as was our son's food, the chocolate cake and cheese board! There are lots of fun beers on the menu, worth a try. We will definitely be back next time we're in Edinburgh. read more
