    Independence Day celebration

Convenient to the State Park, beautiful sunsets and sunrises with the Badlands formations in the foreground. Shower/toilet facilities are decent although water pressure wasn't great. Pool was temporarily closed. We celebrated Independence Day in Interior. Great community feel and experience at the parade, rodeo triathlon, and fireworks.

We've been staying at this campground for 15+ years. It was family ran and always great. It was recently purchased by a corporation and it has been terrible. The pricing on the website showed ~$27 a night for a tent, when we arrived, they were charging ~$55. A total bait and switch pricing. And to note, the campground wasn't even half full. They also wouldn't apply the senior or military discount they advertise online. The pool they advertise, was non-functional. Breakfast is terrible quality and over priced in comparison to what they previously offered. It's a shame this company is ruining this campground. Stay away.

I stayed in a teepee for one night in July, and it's definitely for the adventurous type. It's bare ground and my suggestion is to have at least a sleeping bag and pillow. If you plan on staying in the teepee, try to have an air mattress or elevated bedding. It can get quite cold at night and a warm blanket or wearing layers will be needed. I couldn't figure out how to close the opening on the teepee, so I was fully exposed. Definitely worth staying in if you'd like stories to share back home, and is a more affordable type of accommodation. Wifi was pretty decent, there were a few spotty areas on the campground, but you'll get better reception closer to the main office. The men's bathroom is small, two toilets and two showers; go early before the rush as people were lined up waiting to use the toilets. Tip: bring an air mattress or elevated bed if staying in the teepee.

The Badlands NP campsite was full, so we stopped here and were not disappointed at all. In the 2300+ miles we've seen a lot campgrounds and this one is good. The owner was pleasant and funny, we had a hookups to water and electric for about $35 with a beautiful view at the base of the Badlands. They have bathrooms and showers too they were clean and functional, a few fly traps would be great in there, but it's the climate not the fault of the camp. Note: We didn't check out the store or pool, but it looked like they had a pizza oven and microwave for campers, plus a menu of food served inside. I would stay again.

And the cabin we had was cozy and nice & clean. One of the best national park overnights we've had. The main building has a nice giftshop, a small shop (booze sold here), and a just ok restaurant (tiny - boring menu). Great location in the Badlands. Killer views just a short hike from the cabins. There are nighttime ranger talks, also a quick walk from the cabins. We really enjoyed the astronomy presentation. The rangers had a green laser they were able to point out different constellations. We even saw the International Space Station go overhead. The staff we interacted with was very kind.

The larger bed had two ridiculously weak wall lights but also one side lamp. - In-room coffee is one of the small gadgets that take pre-packaged coffee packets. But they only give you two, even for a six night stay. Given there's no daily room service, you're left coffee-less after one morning. We managed to score a few more from the maids/room service people doing room turnover outside but still had to go in to the lodge to ask for more. My advice? Bring a coffee maker from home. - The rooms are basically motel rooms, so you get a mini fridge, microwave, the aforementioned small coffee maker, a nonfunctional TV (we didn't care about that) and weak sometimes nonfunctional wifi. The lodge/cafe has functional wifi. - Some other issues: front door screen wouldn't latch so unless we wanted flies in the room, we had to keep the main door closed. Flies are a problem here. The back door had no screen door at all. Windows were cranky/non-functional. - There we're no instructions on the various remotes. One controls the heat (and possibly AC, not sure); the other controls the main room light and fan. But the light/fan also has wall switches so you might find yourself pushing buttons on the remote to no effect or flipping wall switches uselessly trying to get the light to come on. Didn't need to fiddle with the TV remote. - The alarm clock kept alarming and we couldn't figure out how to cancel the alarm setting, even after going online to read the manual. Ended up unplugging it which also meant losing the USB ports. We always bring extension cords and power strips so that wasn't a big issue. Even with all those problems, the cabins are still nice and are conveniently located within the park. The main building (which I guess is the 'lodge' even though it has no rooms itself) is close by and has essentials as well as one of the better National Park gift shops I've been to. Restaurant is nothing great but it's there too (separate Yelp page for it).

We were planning a family road trip to Yellowstone this summer and decided to make a stop in Wall on the way up so we could explore the badlands for a day. After doing some research on the town of Wall I learned a few things about places to stay: 1. all of the available lodging are motels, and 2. nearly all of them look as if they've seen better days. After reading through reviews and flipping through images online I found my way to Yelp and discovered the Hansen Inn. The photos honestly looked almost too good to be true, but the reviews backed them up, and I loved that we would be supporting a local business while in town, so with the price being about the same as the Best Western, I went ahead and booked us a room. When we arrived it was easy to check in, and I really liked that they have door codes for each individual door that is customized to your stay. It's conveniently located across the street from Wall Drug, which is the biggest attraction in town, and if you're staying here you really should explore it as it's a pretty unique spot. Once inside your room, you'll find a comfortable and clean space with an air conditioner, modern bathroom, TV, microwave, and fridge. There is an ice machine within the building, and we loved that they also provided some complimentary water bottles. The bed was decent - it was honestly the lowlight of the stay, but it was comfortable enough, and overall if I was staying in Wall I'd without a doubt book this place again. For me, I think it's a bit more of a 4.5/5 rather than a full five just because of the bed, but given that it's in a small town with limited options, I do think this is probably the best motel in town, and that gives it the extra .5 star in my book. Some of our family stayed in other places because they had pools and this one doesn't, but to be honest if you drive through Wall you'll see that the outdoor pools at nearby motels are really not much to write home about, and I had no regrets about booking the nicer place for a more comfortable stay.

From the moment we arrived, we were shown nothing but kindness and hospitality from the operators Tara and Mike. The welcoming environment of this place extends into every nook and cranny. Guests can access free microwave popcorn, sodas, ice, and coffee, and can access the main lodge at anytime and sit on the couches or read in the library area. There is wifi accessible and our room came with a tv that included access to a variety of apps, including Netflix. We were fortunate enough to bunk in a family suite and it is perfectly suited for a group of people that are looking for a home-away-from-home feel. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and open-concept kitchen and living area, it really felt like we had our own apartment here. The kitchen and bathrooms are thoughtfully stocked with travel-sized toiletries and condiments, and there are plenty of dishes and cookware to utilize. There would be no need to worry about cooking in the morning, however, because breakfast is prepared and delicious! Every morning was plenty to fill me up for hours, and the variety and quality of food was really exceptional. It is served at a communal table, so everyone at the lodge eats together. This turned out to be the most pleasant surprise, as we began establishing friendships and connections with other people. Between the friendly staff, the beautiful location, and the impressive breakfast, Hisega Lodge went far and above my expectations. I intend to recommend this place to anyone who is looking to stay in the Rapid City area.
