I had a pretty good experience here! We were staying near the Badlands for one night, and didn't want to setup and tear down a tent for such a short stay. Due to that we chose the 6 person Yurt, not because we needed the space, but because it was listed at the same price as the 4 person, so why not have more room for our toddler to run around! With the yurt being priced at $9/night more than the camper cabin with much fewer amenities I felt like it was an incredible value. The campground staff were also very friendly and informative. Here are my minor gripes that bring this down to a 4 star. Near our part of the campground there were only 2 Bathrooms, they were quite nice, and were completely separate 3/4 baths. But there were often lines, especially if one of them was being used for a shower. In addition to that the hinge style on the interior of the door was quite unfortunate. I'm tall enough where I hit my head on it multiple times. Secondly, when checking in the front desk workers hyped me up on ordering a pizza that they would deliver to my campsite. Unfortunately when I called in they said it would be over an hour and a half wait, that was a bit disappointing and I had to come up with other plans. Overall, a worthwhile stay. I've been quite impressed with KOA and look forward to continuing to explore their list of properties. read more

Our first time staying at KOA -- my SO heard great things about the brand and we gave it a try. We booked a same- day reservation at the Badlands KOA for a Deluxe Tent site on gravel which includes electrical outlet and sink. We checked in and were escorted by a staff member in a golf cart to our site. We rolled up and saw a whole family sitting on the picnic bench in our site. Turns out they were taking advantage of the shade in our spot to play cards... Anywho, our tent site was VERY dirty. There was M&Ms on the ground, a used straw, and dirt on the concrete slab and under our picnic bench. Dust was caked on the sink counter. The lockable storage area underneath the sink was also very dirty too - would not recommend using. Tip: pack a multiport block! Came in very handy to charge all the electronics and fridge. The gravel area where we pitched our tent was level. There are a TON of mosquitoes here. A pack of firewood is $9. Interestingly, you can charge your purchases around the campground to your room and settle the costs upon checkout. The dog run is good sized but seemed to have even more mosquitoes hanging there. The pool water was murky. Bathrooms can use more cleaning and updates. The showers and toilets are all in stalls, gender separated. The air vents were very dirty. We didn't get any free vouchers for breakfast pancakes that we saw other reviewers mentioning- maybe it's discontinued? Free ice and water inside the main KOA shop. The staff and service was good. We just wished our tent site wasn't already occupied upon checking in and was cleaner than how we found it. The KOA experience turned out to be a bit underwhelming. read more

Large tent sites, yet boundaries not clear. Other campers can be right on top of site depending on set up. Bigger issue...restrooms. There are only 2 restrooms inclusive of shower with 20+ tents sites. Line forms quickly( at one time 12 in line). Next location was a bit of a walk. Mini golf is falling apart. Staff super nice. Wasp nests in electrical box. Pancakes were yummy and convenient for breakfast. Interior though small quirky & fun. read more

One of the better KOAs that we've stayed at. You have to drive through Badlands National Park to get here from I-90, so be prepared to whip out your Parks Pass (or buy one for your stay). Pretty generous sites for a KOA, lots of amenities, and clean showers. There's a "Camp Kitchen" on the weekends during the summer, and they offer pretty tasty meals for a pretty decent price (we ate there every night during our Memorial Day stay). As with most RV parks/campgrounds, don't expect much from the Wi-Fi (bring a hotspot with you if you need internet access). I knocked off a star because there are goats heads all over most of the sites. I know you've got to call out a nuclear assault to get rid of those things, but I think it's worth the effort. We keep an outdoor rug in our trailer, but if you don't have one be prepared to pluck those lil f'rs out of your childrens and/or pets feet. read more

A-OK campground for staying a night or 2 to explore Badlands National Park. The reatrooms were clean but one small thing that would make shower time better would be to have hooks on the wall to hang your stuff while showering. They just have one tiny bench outside the shower. The campsites for tent camping are not too bad. They each have a little fireplace and picnic table and plenty of room for tents & parking your vehicle. It would be nice to have a little more privacy between sites but it is not as bad as some campgrounds I have seen. They also have options for people who do not have RVs, campers, or tents. You can sleep in a Yurt, a Tee-Pee, or air conditioned cabin. Definitely not a bad place to camp...I would give it a thumbs up. read more

We loved our stay here. From being escorted to our RV site by golf-cart driving Jeff, to the landscaping and flowers throughout the property, nice bathrooms, kind and helpful staff all around --- this place was really pleasant and convenient. Every single staff member we interacted with was delightful, and it's readily apparent that a lot of care goes into giving guests the best experience possible here. They even had a fuse we needed for the RV in their store. The nicest RV campground we've stayed at in our 8-seat road-trip. Plus a great place to start a visit to the Badlands National Park, which is beautiful! read more

AVOID! AVOID! There are alot of better places to stay that are cleaner and more closely situated relative to attractions. Also, quiet-time rules are not enforced by management, so expect to wake up at 5 or 530am by loud music & loud neighbors. Unfortunately the worst KOA experience we've ever had. Bob, the owner, was cursing at us, in front of our 3 young children, and called the police for us charging our car using the adapter for the 20amp circuit. Unbelievable. Karen, who is Bob's wife, is truely an evil woman who was also unaccomodating and over-charged us even though we had pre-paid for our stay. Happy to ask any questions....we are not Karens & we never complain. We're very easy-going young family on a month long camping trip. The owner's behavior definitely left a bad taste in our mouth. Good amenities like all KOA's but this one is the worst I've been too. I know it's camping but nobody cleans the bathroom or tent sink area. Tent Sink area has rat poop all over it. Bathroom is never wiped down, mopped, disinfected, shower curtains were all brown, mildew, mold in restroom. Campground they keep clean and they take out trash that's it. read more

I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, we were assigned a really crappy campsite, that was so narrow there was no way to have a campfire without risking our camper and/or our truck. The neighboring site's fire ring was perilously close to our camper as well. Thank goodness they didn't have a fire, or we probably would have. I will give the park aces for the shower house. It was clean and the shower was plenty hot. If you will need cell service or Wi-Fi for work, this isn't your place. I had to drive to a neighboring campground/hotel for that. For $60/night, I expected more. read more

Fabulous! This is my second time staying in a cabin and this KOA. The first time was a regular one and this time a deluxe. This KoA is simply the best. The owner Karen and all the staff are soooo nice! I was worried about finding a place to stay by the badlands as we were doing a cross country trip at the same time as Sturgis Bike Week. The deluxe cabin was the only cabin left so we splurged (it's pricer than the regular ones). It was so worth it!! Nicer than the motels/hotels we have been staying in. It had comfy beds to sleep 4 (queen and bunk beds), a full bathroom with shower and all amenities (fridge, microwave, Keruig coffeemaker with pods, linens, hand soap, gallon of water, air conditioning, etc). The cute porch and picnic area made me wish we were staying for a week. The campground so quiet - which was shocking for bike week - and very accessible to the badlands. Would be amazing for kids with children as the campground has all kinds of amenities- a pool, sports areas, food pavilion, mini golf and playground. We didn't take advantage of any of these, but they looked great. Very well thought out to make your stay comfortable and fun. Lots of different options there too (tent sites, RVs, yurts, and cabins). What a great place to camp and very affordable! The showers and bathroom are clean. We stayed for 1 night and a regular tent site cost $30. See the picture of the price list for RV's and cabin/tipi accommodations. If you don't have a reservation, you can still get a spot after hours if they are available. The sign up system is easy to use and there's an envelope drop box you can use if the office is already closed. There's a pool and hot tub next to the main office. There's also a general store and gift shop that sells souvenirs, general merchandise, food and beverages. The people that work here are nice and friendly. read more

This is one of the nicest KOA's around. While the Badlands are beautiful, they are hot in the summer. White River/Badlands KOA is an oasis from the heat. Every site has shade trees, and is situated on the banks of the White River. Facilities are very nice, and it has a very nicely appointed camp store. This campground would be great if they enforced the rule of dogs must be leashed. I saw several dogs during my thankfully short stay unleashed and running around the campground. If it's a rule, why isn't the owners/ management enforcing this?!? I am greatly afraid of dogs and do not appreciate them running about loose at the campground. I would not recommend this place. This was the first KOA we stayed at while on our travels in South Dakota. I was not sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. There are activities for the kids such as mini golf, swimming pool, and "fun cycles". We stayed in a cabin which had air conditioning, cool! The wifi worked well here and there, but we were told since there were more people using it that would happen. The bathrooms were very clean. I would definitely stay at this KOA again. read more

We stayed here in May, drove through the campground to our spot, and were happy to see the campground virtually empty, only a handful of RVs were parked. Our campground was perfect, right across the driveway from the huge dog park and not far from the playground. The campground owners and workampers were very friendly and helpful. We had two packages delivered during our stay and both times the owner of the KOA was very friendly. We had full hookups during our stay, the spots are tight together but you get enough grass to play outside. There was a newish picnic table and the whole KOA is well shaded. There is a large tent camping area in the back. There is no cable TV, but who cares, right? Would I recommend this park? Yes. Would we come back? Yes. Loved this spot. Wifi works which is great for freelancers. Bathroom was super nice and were actual showers rather than a trailer or something. Super close to the Badlands, we enjoyed the short trip and beautiful surroundings. We stayed in a "Deluxe Tent" which had a sink, fence, electric, and countertop just for us. Skip the barren, exposed campground in the Badlands park and drive a few miles down the road to this little oasis with lots of big shade trees and a river running right next to it. Spotlessly clean, good showers, so-so wifi (and very little cell phone coverage). When we were there, there were a lot of biting black flies, but that's not exactly the fault of the KOA, it's probably because they're right next to a creek/river. read more

Best KOA I have ever seen! Bathroom are clean, nice basic store, helpful employees and you can bring your tent or rent a cute cabin or teepee! In April the cabins are $75/night and have a bed you bring the pillows and blankets or your sleeping bags. Small microwave and coffee maker. Nice bathroom in the cabin with a little heat! Cute porch with a fire pit out front and you can park next to your cabin. We will definitely return for another stay! read more

I am giving this campsite 2 stars purely because when we arrived we could not even stay for more than 30 minutes because we were all bitten by mosquitoes a thousand times, swarms and swarms of them, we immediately asked for a refund (my kid was bitten all over in those 30 minutes!) plus my wife is allergic to mosquito bites! I have never seen so many mosquitoes in all my life! The lady at the desk said she couldn't give me a refund because we had been there for more than 1 hour, which seems INSANE, however after she checked we had actually only been there 47 minutes so we got the refund. read more

WORST KOA, don't waste your time if you plan on staying here in a tent. There was many open spots but we were placed in the only tent site in the crowded RV area, it had a horrible smell of septic. The staff inside is rude, and firewood is 9$ a bundle and anything else is monopolized prices. We decided to take a stroll over to the bathhouses and they needed major cleaning. The showers were stained brown with mold on the caulking. Would not recommend Stepping in them even with shower shoes. Then we decided to walk past the pool that remakes of chemicals due to improper chemical balances. The mini golf had a huge wasp nest inside the obstacle, which stung a child in-front of us, we brought it to the staffs attention and they seemed annoyed and said it's been sprayed before. Later a storm rolled in and flooded our tent which was right next to a tall metal tower, not safe for thunder. We packed up our stuff and didn't stay the other night we had reserved. 100% would recommend the Rapid city one over this. Only pro is its 15-20 mins from the main Badlands Trails read more

This is a lovely campground only about 5 miles from Cedar Pass, Badlands National Park. The campground owners are very accommodating, they have firewood to purchase and bring to your campsite for you. Clean Showers with warm water, make this experience even more pleasant. The campground at Cedar Pass in the park costs about the same price per night, but the lots are nose to tail, no campfires allowed, no shade trees and pit toilets. The Badlands/White River KOA is much nicer for the price, still had wonderful views of the Badlands with all the amenities. I would recommend this campground to all. read more

I don't really like the feel of KOA campgrounds. They are a little too upscale, and modern for my tastes. Meaning when I go camping, I don't need WiFI, or to be right next to my camping neighbors. That being said, this campground was probably the most enjoyable of our 2.5 week camping trip out west. At first, they put us right next to other tent campers. By right next to, I really mean, RIGHT Next to. Probably 5 feet from the other campers slot. I asked them kinldly for a slot away from everyone, and they put us in the back of the campground, under what I guess are large cottonwood trees. This was a very nice slot at the back of the campground all by ourselves, and it was very peaceful back there. I remember this porting of the trip very fondly. The camp host, a young woman is very nice, and accomadating, and all of the yellow shirt staff, where very nice. The bathrooms, picnic tables and all facilites are very clean, and well kept. I would stay here again in an instant. It was probably the best part of the trip! read more

We did not stay here, but got lost trying to leave the badlands due to poor GPS directions. We went into the store to ask for some guidance and they were SO helpful! They provided us with a map, detailed directions, and even gave us the golf cart escort out of the park to make sure we knew our way. Nice to stay in an rv park that isn't right on the freeway. The plus for this location is you are right at Badlands National Park. Worth seeing. The rv park was great. Nice staff. The camp sights are a little narrow for a big rv. If you're looking for an rv park that is well manicured this place won't work. The spaces are gravel but level. They have grass but I'm guessing in the heat of the summer it might be dry. A plus there are lots of trees for shade. I would stay here again and I'm the manicured type person. read more

This park is so unaccommodating, first they told us when we reserved that ATT phone service worked good in the park. The fact is it doesn't really work at all. I again checked when arrived if our spot would have good phone service and I was laughed at. I said we may need to cancel our reservation then, and was met with that's fine but NO REFUND WOULD BE GIVEN. We have traveled from Tennessee to Reno and now are making some excursions on our way back to Tennessee. The KOA experience has been good until we stayed here. Each of them allowed for late check out with no issues or mention of fees. Today we asked for a 1 hour late out and was told there would be a late out fee even though they had no one coming into the spot, in fact the park was just over 1/2 booked. My recommendation would be to pass on this KOA they have No customer service and treat you like a number instead of a customer. read more

When I go home, this is my preferred place to stay. This time we stayed in deluxe cabin. Awesome room and price. Love location. But I am predjudiced,since I grew up right down road. Owner friendly, lots to do in immediate area for families.you can see Badlands National Park, Wall Drug(A MUST SEE) . You can also pay respects at Wounded Knee Cemetary. This koa had late night check in with maps to available spaces. But, be for warned since they are pricey! Most of our koa experiences have been pleasant for the most part since we found places to stay on the fly! This koa was under construction and not very clean restrooms. They had a nice laundry room. Nothing short of awesome here! We took a business trip west and were looking for open KOAs on the way back to wi. We called and the owner was so very nice to us. When we stopped in it was mid April and not everything was up and running but the place was clean. The host family was fun and helpful. The husband and wife host team stay on site in a house. They are always there to help if you need but don't come around and impose. Great great great. The bathrooms are clean and updated. There is not much for cell service here but they have recently installed cell boosters and there is ample wifi if u choose. The sunset over the badlands is something to see from your site. I will come back every time we travel on 90 west. It's worth it. read more

This campground was a nice little spot to stop off and sleep but really needed some TLC in most areas. The sites were nice and even which was a plus, but majority of the grounds need work. The mini golf course was overrun with weeds and most of the holes were dilapidated. The bathrooms seemed clean upon first visit but when it came time to take a shower you could see the lack there of. The shower curtains are old and yellowed and there is a lot of dirt and dust on them, they need to be replaced. The campground would be super nice with a little help, hopefully this happens! read more
