I was referred to Badu Tax Services by another Tax accountant, the initial meeting seemed promising and some of the employees were very helpful, but when it came to actually getting taxes completed my tax preparation was rushed. Here is why I know that: the email responses I was receiving were usually a 5-7 day late during tax season, they were overwhelmed by the number of customers, my taxes were higher than what I was able to obtain though another CPA. In addition, I requested to be removed from their mailing list back in November 2024 and still receive emails about follow ups and promotions despite me being a customer. So happy that we discovered Badu tax services for our tax preparation this year. Our experience there was really cool. Jeff Badu was the person that did our taxes in record time (45 min--we have a lot of "extras") and that time included me asking a lot of questions about his life and business, both of which are really interesting. I really wish I could say I had a better experience with this office. My initial consultation with Jeff was good in 2019. LaToya did a decent job with my taxes for 2019 and 2020 although came back and asked me for more money after it was completed. Fine. Paid. I was recommended by LaToya to start an LLC with them. I replied that I wanted to move forward with that and she literally never responded. Better since I figured out how to file directly with SOS on my own and got incorporated without their help. Much cheaper than what she quoted me. I have emailed them about several things and gotten no reply for over a week if ever - like the fact that I referred someone and never got offered the discount. I had to keep asking. They didn't see it on my "account" either with new services I procured which is funny for accountants. I remainder then to account for it in my recent invoice. Accountants not accounting lol. It's like they keep no records of you and don't know who you are. Treated like a new client year after year. They don't seem to be organized or communicative in general. Jerry is though. He expressed concern in the past for communication gaps they have had with me. Unfortunately he and apparently several others are out of town now and no one even answered even the office phone the other day during normal business hours. There also was no voicemail option either. Just rang and rang. LaToya was supposed to prepare my current return (filing late since they don't automatically file an extension by the way). I submitted documents and paid the deposit. I expressed urgency because I need my returns for another financial matter and several days passed. Assistant noted my email. Apparently they didn't communicate and my tax preparer didn't even read my emails clearly for days. Didn't return my call when I wanted to briefly touch base about my situation. Emailed back only when I texted Jerry. Asked me if I had uploaded docs. Told me to schedule a call on her calendar and had no slots free to even talk to me for 7 days! Asked me if I had paid some unheard of expediting fee. Um absolutely not. Very impersonal and cold. I emailed several people there that I had an urgent situation and can't even get an idea of when to expect a simple return to be completed? Didn't take 10 days last year. So my accountant is too busy to take any time to talk to me for 7 days!?? It's not even close to tax season. I guess August is their vacation time. Then I asked for a refund kindly as I need my money to find another accountant and she emailed later that she suddenly had an opening to talk with no indication of what time that would be. Bizarre. I have a great idea... why don't you just call me back?? I left a voicemail on your cell and my number is all through the email chain you are obviously not reading... I again asked for a refund. CRICKETS. Two days and nothing from anyone. They don't care about me, keeping my business or me referring them more business. I am going to find another account who is responsive, professional, replies to my emails, and even possibly remembers who I am. read more

We had a decent experience with Jeff Badu in 2021 with the 2020 tax returns for our small business corporation...but the recent 2021 tax return experience which just ended was very different. Mr. Badu assigned another to our returns and she made mistake after mistake after mistake....a couple of which made no common sense, e.g moving 2/3 of our employee income over to the owner and President for no apparent reason... Then , after our complaints in writing and verbally, Badu did not even offer a discount and sent the returns in one day late even after payment was made in full on tax day... A follow up call from Badu's self identified " COO " wanted a conversation re our dissatisfaction without having explored any of our written complaints or previous conversations which we recommended . Jeff was recommended to me by a friend and I went to meet him in person back in 2019 as I was looking for a CPA. We had a very brief, pleasant experience, but I wasn't sold on this firm truly being the best fit for real estate investors and small business owners. In 2023, I decided to file my 2022 taxes with them because they came up as recommended again. There was nothing special about the process. They barely asked me any questions about my business, outside of how much I made last year (which is how they charged me). I paid what felt like way too much, really hoping they would ensure I wouldn't have a large tax balance. They filed an extension for me, which I paid for and I ended up owing almost 4K. In November 2023, I get a message that reads like spam, saying almost 30K in tax savings have been found. In Jan 2024, I get a similar message so I schedule a call with Tomas. Turns out I overpaid by at least 11K in 2022 and for 10K I can have them amend my 2022 return. I shared my frustration with Tomas that it felt like a way to bait me and that they did not actually truly do the work of an accountant if they're now telling me I overpaid by 11K. Tomas gave me a bunch of excuses about tax analysis and how busy it was last year (i.e. this is why they did not ensure I did not overpay). I cited them filing an extension and how there was no rush to file. I'm beyond disappointed with my experience and would not recommend this firm. So many other thoughts about how poor my experience was back in 2022 with the many people I had to go through just to get a response about the status of my tax return. read more

tl; dr: $1K (hundreds more than I paid an accountant last year for the same services) to do my business and personal taxes. BOTH returns had errors that would have cost me more money had *I* not found them. I hire "professionals" because they're supposed to find this stuff, not me. I'm not a CPA! If I could afford it, I'd have my taxes redone because there are probably many more errors. But since *I* didn't point them out, the "professionals" didn't correct them. Side note, everyone at BTS needs customer service training -- in my opinion. Like reviewer Melissa M., I too own a single member S-Corp. I work in the events industry so my business was decimated in 2020. But hey, death and taxes. (And unlike Jeff B. wrote in his reply to Melissa M., I did not use "disrespectful language" so that can't be his excuse for any of this.) Note: State corp. tax returns are due on March 15. I was instructed to get my corp documents in by Feb. 28. I paid the corporate tax prep deposit on Thur, Feb. 25. I received 2 emails that day from the admin saying a portal was created and what PIN to use. Paraphrased and condensed timeline of events (checks emails): Me (Thur, Feb. 25 at 4:49pm): "Are these 2 emails dupes, or is one email for the business return and one for my personal return?" BTS: No reply Me (Thur, Feb. 25 at 6:07pm): "Also, the PIN doesn't work." Me (Fri, Feb. 26 at 12:27pm): Aware of date, "Any update on the PIN?" BTS (Jeff, Fri, Feb. 26 at 3:52pm): "Here's the PIN." (Same as before but now working.) Me (Fri, Feb. 26 at 3:53pm): He didn't even acknowledge there was a PIN error yesterday. (The non-literature major in me is hoping this isn't foreshadowing; we all know it is.) Me (Mon, March 8 at 11:10am): "ETA on my corp return due in a week?" BTS (LaToya, Mon, Mar 8 at 11:48am): "Got your info. Wrong format. Use this P/L template." Me (Mon, Mar 8 at 11:54am): "No attachment. It's been more than a week. Why am I just finding out you need a different format?" BTS (LaToya, Mon, Mar 8 at 11:57am): "Here's the template." Me (Mon, Mar 8 at 11:55am): She completely ignored my question about why I'm JUST finding out they want the info in a different format! (Received conflicting answers when I brought this up later in the week.) Me: Review template. See that all info they want is on the doc I originally sent. No problem. It takes 10 minutes to copy/paste it in their format. Me (Mon, Mar 8 at 12:11pm): "Where do I show info that wasn't accounted for on the P/L template?" BTS (LaToya, Mon, Mar 8 at 12:29pm): "Show it on the balance sheet. If you don't see it add it as a separate line item (on the P/L template)." Tues, Mar 9 at 3:47pm A link to review the return arrives. Me (Tues, Mar 9 at 4:11pm): "Where's the figure that I asked where to include it on the P/L? BTS Jeff (Wed, Mar 10 at &:10am): We need everything in the template...and BTW we offer bookkeeping as a service. Me (Wed, Mar 10 at 9:55am): (Deep breaths) "I put everything in the template as instructed, including the balance sheet info as additional line items on P/L template. And, BTW, if you picked up some numbers from the template how did you miss these other numbers (that would reduce my tax liability)?" Me (seeing updated return): What's this!?? They put it as additional income!?! It's supposed to reduce my income, not increase it! BTS (LaToya, phone): Introduces her assistant to a bus. Down they go. Me: "So, you didn't review this before the assistant sent it to me?" BTS (LaToya): Again, assistant meet bus. Me: "If you say nothing goes out before both you & Jeff review it, it's just all a fluke that the asst screwed up the data AND also mistakenly sent me a different wrong version of my return...before you and Jeff reviewed it?" Sure, Jan. Multiple emails/calls take place as I try to get Jeff and LaToya to understand the numbers and my frustration. I perceived Jeff's attitude as dismissive. Basically: "We can file your taxes on Monday and you can pay on Monday. What's the problem?" I don't have money just sitting in my business account, which is why I needed to know the tax a week ago. Now, I need to pay from my personal account. I don't like commingling funds. Personal Tax Return (after BTS missed the deadline they gave me) Me (Fri, Mar 19 at 12:02pm): Why is state tax so high? It's usually this ratio between fed/state. And, I prepaid estimated taxes last year, unlike the year before when I first set up the corp. BTS (LaToya, Sat, March 20 at 4:51pm): "The estimated tax payments were not correctly calculated. A revised copy has been updated." Me (Sat, Mar 20 at 4:52pm): Face palm! Screaming...and seething...inside! Tell me again how many people review returns before going to your clients. BTW, there weren't any mistakes in the billing or processing of my payment to BTS. The mistakes were only in the work they were paid to do. Re the reply: Provide 1(!) example of me being offensive and attacking. You can't do it. Stop blaming the victim. read more

Actually they do not deserve the one star!!! Absolutely horrible! Tiffany did the initial interview. Emailed back stating Jeff would work with my QBO files, and would forward me the client portal to upload docs after I paid. I promptly paid the fee. Sent me portal. Uploaded documents and then NOTHING! Crickets. 5 business days after I uploaded documents I emailed and asked for a time frame. They sent a 1 sentence response, 3-5 more days. Got an email from Tiffany on Monday saying by end of day Wed. On Thursday I reached out again, and this time the tax preparer LaToya reached out to say my taxes took longer than expected and I would have them by end of day Friday. BTW I am a single owner S-Corp with books professionally done. She also asked me if I wanted her to complete a K-1! WHAT!!!!!! When I received the return I gasped. Completely wrong and off. She couldn't even translate the cash receipts from the P&L to the line on my 1120S asking for cash receipts! She clearly has no clue on how to prepare a S-Corp return. I spoke with my former accountant who in his words was "speechless" after he viewed my returns. I sent her some notes on how to run thru some expenses and it took her another week to present amended tax returns that were worse than the first draft. How Jeff Badu could have let these returns be sent to me is so disappointing and unprofessional. I have asked for a refund but of course have not heard anything from Badu Tax Services, not even a confirmation that I they no longer represent me and do not want them to file anything on my behalf. I have hired a new tax preparer who also was in complete disbelief at the returns Badu prepared for me. I hired him Friday night and got a complete set of correctly done returns today.
