I ordered a bagel toasted with butter. Yes I'll go there..not sure if it's a language. The cashier n cooks communicate in their language (no biggie) but when I ca understand cashier telling foo prep "she want butter". He Said: An average bagel with average cream cheese. If it was my only local option I'd take it, sometimes. Too much corn meal (any is too much tbf) on the bottom of an undercooked piece of bread. Not great technique and low flavor cream cheese. She Said: I think there was a boil or steam element to this bagel, but I was hung up on the light and airy interior of it. This is my husband and I's "go to" spot for bagels. They've got the best chewy bite to them and I really like the strawberry cream cheese - I get it on the side though because if you get it on the bagel, they overload it and it sort of melts -- not my thing. I like my blueberry bagel sliced and toasted then the strawberry cream cheese on the side. So so good! If I'm feeling in the mood for coffee I get the mocha espresso frappe. It has that rich, chocolate flavor and gives me that caffeine buzz I need when I have a work-packed day ahead of me. The only thing I wish they had was some more options for lunch. I enjoy going for breakfast but if there were more sandwich options I'd come by more often. read more

Cute little spot on Clyde Park that gives you what you need, fresh yummy bagels! They've got a variety of bagels and spreads. The veggie spread is really tasty. It's got fresh veggies, not that dried stuff. It's also topped with dill for that added herby goodness. Each time I visit I'm greeted with a joyful good morning from the staff and the manager. Everyone is always in a good mood! I'm really picky and sometimes can take long to order, but they are patient with me. I really appreciate that! Their coffee options are pretty varied, I had Sumatra this week but there are other blends and decaf. I'd definitely be back to support this local biz! read more

I've been here a few times before when in town, and I really liked the coffee and they serve a pretty darn good "works" bagel. I don't know what happened in just a few weeks, but the coffee was horrible! I decided to splurge and order a mocha and a bagel. The coffee was watery and the chocolate tasted very, very strange. It was also not very warm! It was as if they put some cold chocolate syrup into old coffee It wasn't anything close to any mocha I've ever had. Rarely do I ever splurge on a bagel, but it had been that kind of day. I don't live in Grand Rapids, so finding a great bagel is exciting. In the past the bagels have been great, but that day it was burned! Unfortunately, before I realized it, I was on the highway and I wasn't about to turn back around. It was really disappointing. The guy making the bagel could clearly see that it had been burned and yet he still served it to me. It'll make me think twice before I come back again. I really don't like posting a poor review - everybody has an off day from time to time. But it just bugs me that he knew the bagel was burned. That isn't an off day, that's not caring. This place doesn't look like much, but holy crap!!!! I'm a coffee snob, and their lattes are absolutely amazing; very smooth coffee tasting without being weak like many other places. Also, the FOOD?? Without question, one of the best bagel sandwiches I've had! We got one of the ranchero-based bagels and soooo yummy. I was in Grand Rapids visiting a couple friends. We came here for breakfast one morning. I ordered a sausage and provolone bagel sandwich and it comes with an egg on it. It does come on a plain bagel, and I wish I ordered it on a different type of bagel so it had a little more flavor to it. Being from New York, it's hard to find a place that has good bagels, and Bagel Beanery definitely has good bagels! I also bought a tub of their jalapeño cheddar cream cheese to take home with me, and it was delicious! I would definitely recommend Bagel Beanery! read more

Service has been poor every time I've been here. Last time I was here, I ordered a certain drink and they charged me for a different one that was more expensive. I tried to correct them but they had already walked away to prepare the drink I had actually ordered. This time, I ordered a medium drink and she charged me for a large. I called her out and she said "they only carry larges" when the menu says they carry multiple sizes. Just go the one on Michigan and College it's much better service and same quality of food. read more

I have already wrote a review of this chain and I absolutely love them. But what's different about this location is very nice and big! You can actually come here to sit and have lunch or study and not feel overtly cramped. Also, this location has an updated menu and appliances in the main area for customers to stand like a cooler with their delicious cream cheeses in them. I wish they were all like this! They are just like the other one I go to in that they give you plenty of cream cheese a top your bagel and the bagels themselves have tons of flavor! read more

Ever since the new ownership has taken over, service has continuously degraded in quality. Upkeep of the facilities is also poor. My wife attempted to place an order multiple times and due to an apparent language barrier with the owner who was taking the order, the food was prepared incorrectly and the owner, who treated my wife rudely when the mistake was pointed out, made her pay for the incorrect order. I was not a business major, however that does not seem to be a good way to do business. It is saddening because it used to be a great place to go for food and coffee. We will no longer do business here and will not recommend. read more

My wife and I visited the Michigan St store on February 6, 2014. It was about 10:30 a.m., the store was relatively empty, every table was covered with crumbs and coffee rings and there were several employees standing behind the counter. I went into the bathroom and whetted a paper towel and wiped off a table. My wife asked if the the "everything" bagel was good and the employee stated it was "great." Upon first bite she discovered an overwhelming taste of garlic and salt. I tasted it and confirmed. We have had garlic bagels before but this one was terrible. We brought this issue to their attention and were advised that a couple of their workers really like garlic. That was it. No offer to substitute or give our money back. In addition, my blueberry bagel was burnt. The last issue was the coffee in their carafe was warm not hot. We try and go to non chain stores but this experience may change our tradition. read more
