The menu has a variety of options and I'm sure you could make whatever you wanted. The staff members were all very friendly and helpful. I ordered the classic breakfast sandwich with the salsa pepperjack bagel, sausage, and provolone. The bagel intrigued me because I've never seen that combo before. I really enjoyed the taste of it but I wish it was toasted longer, which might be personal preference. The sausage and cheese seemed like your typical premade or frozen options. I saw lots of complaints on this place about service. I had the opposite experience. I only drink decaf and both times they made it without hesitation the Sandwich was delicious, only thing keeping it from a 5 was style of bagel. I prefer the more New York voile style. This was definitely more soft and bready. But overall good experience. I'll come back next time I'm in town. read more

Bagel Beanery is your classic bagel restaurant but not the best. My fiancé loves their breakfast sandwiches, and I like the regular bagels a lot, but probably could be a little cheaper for the quality. The coffee is sub-par and the other menu items aren't great either. During the pandemic, it wasn't the most pandemic-safe restaurant (not following mask guidelines, indoor seating etc) and that lost my business. In the GR area there are better bagel places. Horrible service! Will NEVER go back! The manager of this place is horrendous and leads her employees to be the same. I placed an order in store for 4 separate orders. I thought I grabbed another customers order so I was simply verifying that I grabbed the right thing. The woman talked down to me the entire time telling me what I ordered (I know what I ordered, I just thought I grabbed something that wasn't mine) I then called back to talk to the manager who ended up being the same nasty woman who condescending. She laughed at me over the phone, argued with me, refused to give me contact information of anyone above her, and then hung up the phone on me. I come from 10+ years of customer service- just go to the one on Michigan, trust me. The Brenton location is a franchisee and operated by this horrible human being. I came on Sunday at 11:10 AM to order a dozen bagels they would not sell me the bagels they said I could have one, even though their wall was full of bagels. and they were only open for another 110 minutes. Was in Grand Rapids for a weekend getaway and was looking for a quick bite and a coffee before heading home. This Bagel Beanery was the closest place and despite its (unnecessary) mediocre reviews I came in and was quite pleased! I was a little surprised that my boyfriend and I were the only customers at 8:30 on a Sunday morning but I guess that's a win for us because we had great service. I ordered the Breakfast Classic sandwich (bagel, sausage patty, scrambled egg, provolone) and my BF ordered the Denver Omelette sandwich. Our food was ready in about 5 minutes and came with some bagel crisps. The food was great! We also ordered coffees: I had the Beanery Roast and BF had the dark roast. The coffee was fantastic as well! Made our trip home so much better! We would definitely come back next time we're in the area! Only note to make is that it was not accessible (only way into the store is up a stairway). I hope that there was another entrance that I just didn't notice. read more

Having gone to college in Kalamazoo, I would frequently visit the westnedge location. It was one of my favorite places to grab coffee and a delicious bagel. Not to mention the environment and cleanliness was top notch. So, of course I was expecting the same for this location. However I was met with dirty floors, dead plants and terrible music. This place was dead. The cushions on the chairs were ripped and there were piles all over the floor of dust and debris. On the plus side, the food was delicious! I always get the same thing, an Asiago bagel with regular cream cheese and a hazelnut cream latte. It did not disappoint and the customer service was great, too. The only thing from keeping me from returning is the lack of cleanliness and character that the Kalamazoo location has. Hopefully they'll keep up with cleaning and at the very least watering their plants once in a while. read more

TOP NOTCH. I usually only come here for the bagels, I haven't really had their coffee so I cannot judge based on that. My experience here has always been great! The gals are always smiling and more than happy to help! Their bagel choice is always awesome.. Ya know how some places, you get a bagel with say, Asiago cheese on it and you cant taste the cheese? Here you can taste the cheese! :) Now, that may sound like senseless babble but what I'm saying is their bagels have a lot of flavor! Also, they don't skimp on the cream cheese either which I LOVE. My favorite is the vegetable cream cheese! It's chunky with bits of actual cucumber, carrot and other assorted veggies/ herbs. I LOVE IT. The bagels are huge so it usually fills me up. I haven't visited the inside of this place, but I can vouch for the bagels! I like the flavors a lot, especially the sugary cinnamon. The bagels here are of the chewy kind, which I really appreciate. Cream cheese is solid, I tried the brown sugar flavor. My only complaint is that the blueberry doesn't have real blueberry pieces in it, some kind of blue-colored flavor pieces. Great texture, though, if you're into that light chewy vibe! read more

I have just tried out the Breton location of Bagel Beanery. The staff were not friendly, and when I got my sandwich it was not good. The bagel was soggy and looks and feels like it was half thrown in the microwave. The rest of the sandwich was lukewarm while the eggs were freezing cold. I will not be back. Bagel beanery is a nice change from the 45 minute wait that you'll have on the weekend at a sit-down brunch restaurant. We stopped by on a Saturday morning to grab bagel sandwiches and coffee. The staff was 2 young men who were very helpful and answered all of my questions! We ended up getting 1 sesame bagel with egg, cheese, and sausage, and another bagel sandwich with egg, bacon, and cheese. Both were tasty and the bagels were soft. I'm more of a chewy, boiled bagel girl. I don't like baked, bread-like bagels. These were somewhere in between! I liked them! I especially like the coffee selection! Just that morning they had 8 coffees to choose from: 1 light roast, 2 medium roasts, 1 dark roast, 1 decaf, and 3 flavored coffees. I usually only like dark roasts, but I tried the fireside (irish cream & hazelnut); it was really flavorful, but not too artificial tasting. I liked it! There's only 1 size of cup for $1.99. I passed up a free hotel breakfast because I have to have a Bagel Beanery bagel whenever I'm in town. Usually, I stay near the Wyoming unit. This time, I went to the one on Breton Road. Quaint building, similar to Wyoming, and nice servers. Big disappointment was that they don't have jalapeño bagels or jalapeño cream-cheese. Sorry, but the "Fiesta" cream cheese (corn and black bean pieces??) doesn't work as well for me. Othewise, sesame-seed the bagel was good. read more

Love this place! Friendly and helpful staff. Best bagels I've ever had! And I enjoyed the sides of bagel chips to taste more flavors for next time. And they make the best iced chai with steamed milk and liquid chai. Bagels to try as we liked them: El Paso Omelette, Tuscan Scramble, and Bacon egg and cheese on cheddar herb. I went into the Bagel Beanery today for an afternoon coffee break from work with a colleague (02/02/2018). When we walked in the door, at 3:45PM, the manager (as his tag read) behind the bar started mumbling under his breath, and stated 'is this serious, F***.' He then proceeded to inform us that he hadn't been busy for the past hour, but now that he was about to close, a 'whole village' arrived. This obviously made it incredibly awkward to place our order. After we placed our order, another customer entered the store. The manager stated to the customer that it would be a minute, and the customer replied, 'no problem, man, take your time'. The manager replied, 'I actually won't take my time, because we close in five minutes'. The manager then began to run around behind the counter, again, saying (much more loudly this time) 'F***, S***, is this serious? God'. When three more people walked in, the manager stated 'Are you guys aware that I close at 4PM?'. One of the customers stated that it was not 4PM yet, and that he should inform his manager that he had just lost 4 customers, as they were all about to walk out. The manager stated 'oh, good, great, i'll tell myself that because I"M THE MANAGER'. The entire experience was bizarre and rude, and displayed the extremely poor customer service. I have worked in customer service previously for 6 years, and this is not the way to treat people, especially if you claim to manage the store. I gave a star because I enjoyed the coffee, but I will not return to Bagel Beanery. read more

I used to Love this place. It used to be so good, but recently it has gone so far down hill that I don't see it coming back up. This location never gets my order right, and I don't get a complicated order. I just ask for No notions, as I am allergic. But they continue to put onions on, and never put the extra sauce on. If You are going to go to a Bagel Beanery, don't go to this one. Go to the one in Clyde Park. It is so much better. This is some of the worst service I have ever had and it never changes bunch of young kids working that don't know what they are doing, constantly messing up my orders and also always out of bagels when I come in, and also the manager is an idiot purposely closed his store in front of me and wouldn't let me in during hours of service and also staring me and my girlfriend down while we take our orders, the workers also haven't given me chips and pickles in my bag with my sandwich bagel various times and have to ask, not friendly service either and seem to get my order wrong every single time I come in, in my opinion needs new management and new staff. I'm a Grand Rapids native, and I've been visiting Bagel Beanery since I can remember. Today's visit was exceptional, though. I requested a breakfast sandwich without meat, and they asked if I wanted to exchange it for a different type of meat. After I declined, they offered to add extra egg to the sandwich. I went to get a brewed coffee and my preferred flavor was out. Instead of making me wait for an entire pot of coffee to brew, they took a minute or two to fill my cup with the flavor I wanted. Okay indeed. I had an iced chai, t'was good. My friend had a latte of some kind. I also bought a cookie and a bottle of water. I had to spend 10$ to get stamp for my 4gr8food passport, they are the restaurant management group that runs this location, and the other location of this coffee shop. They have other eateries in Gr and also in Traverse City, like Omelette shop and Flapjack shack. The passport thing runs through sometime in Sept 2012, if you get 3 stamps from their eateries/coffeeshops you can send it in for a 25$ gift certificate, and if you get more stamps via purchases you get a larger gift certificate and you can enter as many times as you like or if you use their catering service you get entered also. September deadline is for the grand prize, a tv I think, while other entries for the gift certificates continue till the end of the year I think. A bit confusing, but I think we came in a bit late to the concept. read more

They have great coffee and sandwiches. Their bagels are really good but lack cream cheese. I like to eat one on my way to work, but they are so dry you can cough on them. If you asked for a bit more cream cheese, they tell you they put enough on it. At the downtown location, it's the opposite. You have to scrap some off. They should work on a happy medium amount. read more
