This was easily one of the most disorganized restaurant experiences I've had. Despite the store being empty when I arrived, it took 5-6 minutes before anyone took my order. About 10 minutes later, I was told the bagel I ordered didn't actually exist because their "Everything Bagel" is wheat, while the "Wheat Everything" is multigrain. Confusing, but I changed my order. Another 5-6 minutes later, I was told they were out of peanut butter, so I requested a refund instead. I was told I could keep the bacon that had already been cooked. After waiting several more minutes for the refund, I was handed only $3 back on a $12+ order (plus a $2 tip). When I pointed out the refund was incorrect, they took the bacon back before refunding the rest. I understand that mistakes happen and no business is perfect. Unfortunately, this experience was frustrating enough that I can't recommend this place when there are several other excellent bagel shops nearby that consistently provide better service and a smoother experience. One thing worth noting: allof the positive reviews here appear to be from the previous bagel shop that operated at this location, so I'd encourage anyone reading reviews to keep that in mind when deciding where to go. read more

Man, have I missed bagels from NJ/NY. I'm so glad I was able to try out this local bagel shop in East Brunswick, which serves not only bagels but also other breakfast items. I got an Everything bagel, plain & toasted, and it was the fluffiest, best tasting bagel I've tasted in a long time. Pricing is very fair, with 3 bagels (2 of which had cream cheese) and 1 omelette totaling a little over $20. The store itself had an intimate, cozy vibe, with the aromas of bagels wafting through the front door. At 10am, they still had a good selection of bagel varieties and had even added freshly made bagels to the display case. The wait was reasonable for the food that we ordered, since it included an omelette. But if you only get a bagel, you'll be in and out of the store within a few minutes. read more

This is definitely my go to bagel/breakfast spot on weekends or my days off when I'm craving breakfast. I love that I can call in and make my order over the phone and then pick it up. It's located in the strip mall on Ryders Lane. The parking lot can get busy, but it's not too chaotic. Definitely phone your order in because sometimes it can be a long wait. They have a great selection of bagels, of course, croissants, sandwiches, and other things for breakfast and lunch. The staff is really nice and they're quick about getting your orders. Year's and new management change everything in this case for the worse. When it comes to bagels I'm a 'everything'' type of a guy and I love white fish spread with red onions slightly toasted so, that's what I ordered. Unfortunately, when it arrived the spread of white fish was unacceptable. I've had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with more peanut butter on it than the super lightly spread of white fish they put on it. The bagel was bland and I had a chalky taste to it, the people are friendly and the place is clean but I will not return especially with a better option just a few tenths of a mile away. I really didn't see what the fuss was with this place. Sure, it is convenient. Yes, the bagels are good. So why am I knocking it? To be honest, I am not so sure why myself. Maybe because overall it was just, okay. There's nothing to this place. The pork roll I got was good, but I know you could get better elsewhere. And while it wasn't bad customer service, there's other bagel shops that treat a customer better. Maybe it was also the lack of options, but it is a bagel shop. I don't expect a lot. Sausage Egg and Cheese on a Super Cinnamon Raisin Bagel. Oh yeah I love me some super cinnamon raisin. It's kind of a workout on the jaw but mmmm mmmm especially if you get there early enough for them to be warm. I used to come here EVERY morning and they would make my food for me without even ordering. This would upset people waiting in line that did not even order yet when I would be standing in the back and suddenly my foods ready. I actually used to pass several bagel stores on my way to Bagel Express when I lived in a different part of town. Now I live less than a 1/2 mile away and can take a early morning walk if I'd like. (I usually drive....don't judge me.) Over the years I've steadily watched the prices go up while some of the less favorable competition has managed to keep prices consistent. The Bagels here are delicious! Absolutely spot on perfect Bagels! Crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle and all taste like their description. Just perfect! The bacon is always cooked how you ask, I like mine well done and they do it! They actually DO it! Unlike most places that do not seem to understand the intricacies of cooking bacon as requested. Well, these guys do. Lol ‍ They have an exceptional drink selection with lots of probiotic choices and teas and juices. It is always packed with people too, so you that speaks for itself. The only thing missing is the popular coffee syrups, (Chocolate and Caramel would be a good start) but the coffee counter is small so I get it, and Half and Half.. I like actual cream in my coffee. I also ordered a hazelnut coffee, light with regular sugar. I received a coffee that was dark brown and no sugar. I paid I think $5 for 3 pieces of bacon. I gave an extra star because to be honest, once I put milk and sugar in, it was the best hazel nut coffee I have ever had in my life! I've always said when it comes to pizza, subs, and bagels, Jersey is King -- at least in terms of volume. While the best of these three things can be found in Brooklyn across three specific locations (Di Fara, Lioni, and The Bagel Store), the other 95% of all places that sell these things across NYC sell a subpar a product. Yet in New Jersey, you can drive up to just about any local pizza joint, sub shop, or bagel store and have an experience far above the average. So it should come as no surprise that Bagel Express has now joined my growing list of 4-star places to grab a quick breakfast in the morning. Ironically, this review is not about the bagels. As much as I love a good bagel sandwich, it's just too much food in the morning, especially if you're trying to stay relatively healthy. Instead, I prefer a simple breakfast wrap -- one egg, turkey bacon, American cheese, salt, pepper, hot sauce, in a whole wheat wrap. It's more like a snack than a meal, and it's perfect for those days when I need more than my daily kale/spinach juice. I've been working in Jersey City for almost six years now, and for three of those years I would order this breakfast wrap at the local deli. It may sound like a simple thing to create, but not all scrambled eggs are created equally, and getting turkey bacon cooked just right is an art form. The guy at my local deli had this down to perfection. But then Hurricane Sandy hit and wiped out the deli, which sadly never reopened. Since then, only Brunswick Bagels on the other side of East Brunswick has been able to recreate my wrap exactly the way I like it. Unfortunately, Brunswick Bagels is not on my way to work in the morning. So now I occasionally pop in to Bagel Express. And I have to tell you, the girl on the grill here makes a mean breakfast wrap, everything apportioned perfectly, hot and delicious. To me, the simplest things in life are among the greatest things in life. And given how crappy my commute is in morning, it's nice to sometimes start it off right with a proper breakfast. Service is great here, too. Everyone is friendly and accommodating. Orders are always made correctly. And the prices are all reasonable. Finally, my breakfast fix is covered no matter what direction I head out from home in. :D read more
