Park Deli on Raritan Avenue (Rt. 27) in Highland Park, NJ., reminds of an older 7 Eleven with a good soup/sandwich deli attached. A wall of cool drinks along one side, and a high refrigeration unit for of meats, cheeses and salads, on the other. Hi cashier counter for good defensive positioning. Most importantly, parking behind the store to avoid the difficulty of street parking and those pesky meters. The space is a bit past its prime, but service is first rate, and the bagel sandwich I ordered was better than decent. Obviously, they don't make the bagels, but their provider seems to know the process. Mine was firm on the outer skin and light and chewy within. Not the best of breed, but plenty good enough. My late breakfast with coffee was just over $3.00, and the owner handed me back my buck to skip making penny change. Nice customer appreciation. I don't get this way often, but if I find myself in these parts again, Park Deli is a solid choice for breakfast or lunch on the run. read more

I love having this convenience store near me. They make excellent sandwiches and to-go foods and are extremely quick. The have a long list of specialty sandwiches that you can order by number, or you can just tell they what you want. They allow you to call in orders and pick up and I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes for anything including hot dishes. They also have your usual convenience store items that you might need in a pinch when you can't make it to the supermarket. The prices aren't too bad either. The girls at the counter sometimes get overwhelmed when there are several customers at once (but granted this place does get very busy during lunchtime) but the guy and girl who run the deli counter are friendly quick, and efficient and make really good sandwiches! read more

I've been here before and used to love it because it's right down the block from me! But lately it seems like the sandwhiches are getting more expensive and they're giving less meat in them. I frequented this place this place quite a bit for breakfast sandwiches or bagels but I think they recently came under new management? Usually it's a group of guys behind the counter but today there was 3 new women I've never seen. I usually get bacon egg and cheese and it's a well cooked egg sunny side up. Not a big fan of subs, but I was determined to go to a hole-in-the-wall place that I could not eat at on the west coast (I did NOT fly all the way out to the east coast just to eat at Subway!). I started going there a while back because they were the closest place to pick up the paper and get a very decent roast beef sandwich. They are always open (not 24 hours though), and there is always help. My only complaint that has since stopped was that I would always have to check my receipt for the correct amount. All the food looks great and tastes just okay. Every time I have been here I go in with high hopes and leave pretty dissatisfied. The one piece of advice I can give to the Park Deli is to buy different French fries. The last two times I've been here I noticed that the fries are more pockets of air surrounded by oily sticks of potato than actual French fries. These folks make excellent sandwiches, and although they do have some seating, it's not worth sitting. The sandwiches, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are so good, you shouldn't ruin them in the linoleum under the fluorescent lights. My favorite is the corned beef. read more

I am usually not a fan of subs but Park Deli subs are different. I love the different combinations of sandwiches they have come up with and they have a VARIETY. I tried all the sandwiches without meat and they were all excellent. I have a really hard time choosing because they are all so tasty and, as mentioned before, so much to choose from. Their egg and cheese sandwiches are very good: flavorful and not to hard. Much better than the ones at the DD across the street and less the wait. I introduced my family to this place and this has become their favorite sandwich shop. Also, even as a convenience store they are pretty awesome with rare beverage and candy selections. Regarding perishables and food: The pints of ice cream in the freezer are completely freezer burned. The cold cuts are fresh but the bread is mushy and the sandwiches are thrown together. The few times I ordered I received the wrong sandwich. My biggest complaint is related to the little guy who rings up the orders. I've seen him be extremely rude to woman but is overly kind to men. My wife and I love to check out local places that offer a variety of sandwiches, and this fits both of those categories. They have lots of creative options for regular sandwiches and also have a selection of Fat Sandwiches if your appetite desires. Even at their busiest times, my food has always come out quick and fresh. Prices are very reasonable, even for a convenience store. This place is awesome. Not only are the staff insanely nice, friendly, and accommodating, but they make some damn good sandwiches too. I have tried many deli places around New Jersey but none like parks. I love that they have hot peppers and not just banana peppers. You can pick from a variety of bread from a poppy roll to subs or just plain white bread. I also like that they have multiple spreads like spicy mayo!!
