i've been craving a NY-style bagel. have tried all the trendy west coast bagelries and have been generally underwhelmed :) today i learned about bagel street cafe and drove over to city center to check them out. i had to park in the garage, which was free because i was in and out in under 15 minutes. staff was friendly. i ordered the "combo" bagel, which is the closest they have to my fave flavor, everything. even at 1p, the bagel tasted fresh, the outside was crisp with a chewy, fluffy interior, and the cream cheese was light delicious. good toast, too. minus one because "combo" only seemed to be seeds (sesame, poppy, sunflower)- and didn't have the garlic, onion, or salt that make everything bagels so.. everything. read more

With all the food prices being raised seemingly everywhere, at Bagel Street Cafe, a breakfast sandwich is still in the five dollar range, a loaded lox n bagel is under $9 dollars, and a basic bagel is a $1.10. Not bad. I ordered: Sausage, egg, cheese bagel: this was a basic bagel sandwich. Nothing mind blowing but it came hot and worth the price. Nova Lox bagel: capers, cream cheese, red onions, and lox. I love this item and they make a decent version. The employees here are really nice. They had my food ready after ordering online for pickup. There are definitely higher quality bagels being made in the Bay Area but Bagel Street Cafe is a serviceable option. read more

This place is truly a gem and something to be protected. One of the few places in downtown Oakland where you can get good food for a reasonable price. Especially if you're trying to eat something fresh and healthy. Go for a bagel sandwich. One of the shops that I consider to be a service to the community and for that I give it 5 stars. read more

My order: Lox Bagel with everything on it (the most expensive item) Out of all the other locations, this one is the best. Although it is small inside, there is good seating outside. The workers are extremely efficient and fast. The bagels are always big and fresh, and made correctly with a very good amount of filling: extremely worth the money. My favorite worker is the Asian lady who makes the bagel in a way that the ingredients never falls out, you get everything in one bite, and the bagel is filled with lox and a perfect ratio of the other ingredients. For a lox bagel with everything in it: this is most worth location and the cheapest. Compared to other more expensive locations (Alameda and Dublin), this one is best and does not cheap out on ingredients. read more

This location is on the corridor of several other lunch spots in downtown Oakland. I ordered a Jalapeño Bagel with jalapeño cream cheese, tomatoes, onions, and salt and pepper. I definitely had better at other locations -- the cream cheese was really thick and did not have the jalapeño flavor I was looking for. It was a decent choice for a quick lunch but nothing about the bagel or the cream cheese would have me returning. Prices are decent though. I bought the bagel, a bowl of fruit, and a bag of chips for under $10. Service is a bit rushed and I don't like it when staff members keep asking me what I want when I'm still reading through the menu. No parking. This place baffles me. The bagels are good, not the best ever, but competent enough. I have come here for some time to get a dozen bagels to go and for the most part all has gone OK. The staff behind the counter aren't all that friendly or engaging and seem to be unhappy in their jobs. They are efficient, but that's about it. What confounds me is every time I go the price seems to go up. I can recall not long ago paying around $9. for a dozen and now over $12. Still not horrible, but it never seems to steady itself. The Restaurant was bustling and service was quick and easy. Except when it comes to the portions. It looks like I ordered a vegan sandwich. When I asked about the actual Chicken Salad. The owner told me you only get 3 oz of Chicken Salad. I guess that's a good amount on a beagel but looks like sandwich spread on a roll. So my veggie roll with Chicken Salad spread tasted good. So when Bagel Street Cafe has an egg bagel, and I can get the nova sliced lox on it, it's literally the closest thing to having a proper bagel breakfast as I can in Oakland. Their bagels are decent. Definitely not as thick and chewy as the east coast, but manageable. The staff is all super nice, they also make sandwiches, have a large selection of coffee options, drinks and chips. Hi I walked in and as per usual they're always rolling their eyes and make me feel like they don't want to take my order... the owner was even there talking to someone and he was reluctant to help me. They made it seem like I was interrupting them and they didn't want to take my sale. I ordered a jalapeño bagel and received a strawberry bagel. :( either it was a joke or a mistake... either way I always despise coming to this location! Excellent fresh bagels, sandwiches, pizzas and so much more to choose from. This location is easy to get to in the Federal Center downtown Oakland. You can come up out of the 12th St Bart exit and walk into the promenade or you can take the bus lines 6, 12, 72's and as well walk into the center. The bagels and sandwiches are so fresh and made exact to order while you wait. Which by the way isn't any wait at all. They are extremely quick, even if there is a line, no worries. It'll go by quickly. The employees are friendly and efficient. It's nice to have a hot delicious crispy bagel in the morning and sit outside or next to the water fountain and people watch. My friends chose the location. They ordered and got their items within a reasonable time. Meanwhile, person and person who ordered after me got their orders after mine while 5, 10, 15 minutes passed, and they hadn't even started to make my order. So much for quick! Aside from the slowwwwwww process of getting the bagel sandwich it was pretty standard. My bagel sandwich with egg and veggies was nothing amazing, but it did the trick in a pinch. The woman who took forever to get to my order forgot to put the cheese on the sandwich after charging me $3.00 extra dollars for my order. I love the egg + sausage sandwiches, Asiago bagels + tomato, tuna sandwiches for lunch (~$5, good size and yummy tuna), also great croissants and fruit cup options. The drinks in the fridge are also cheaper than anywhere around the area - I've checked. I am frankly surprised by some of these negative reviews. I would honestly go there everyday if I could. I love this place. The bagels are amazing and I love the veggie avocado sandwich! The veggie cream cheese is amazing too! I don't understand why all the bagel street cafes aren't this good? This location is by far the best. I will say the place is small and if there is a line it could take a while. There are usually just one or two people working at a time and it can get very backed up.
