This place is great. Maybe not the best bagel in Paris, but they make a good effort and the staff's positive attitude earns them an extra star. The owner is very kind and the girls behind the counter are always very sweet. I think the bagels are best though when it is the owner (or at least I think he is the owner - maybe a manager) makes them because he puts in a good amount of meat and cream cheese. There is always a line so I guess that speaks for itself. There are some cheaper competitors in the neighborhood but they are not as nice :-/ This place - as its name reveals - also has brownies (really good) but more importantly great cheesecake...but you better get your cheesecake before 12:30 if you want to be sure that they will still have a slice in stock! I would be even happier if they heated up the pastrami - but maybe that is just too much to ask. They have A&W root beer as well (awesome!) - but its awfully expensive for sugar water at 2.90 euros a can (less awesome). But those last comments are just me being a nit-picky American looking for my long lost bagel place back how with 4 dollar bagels with everything I want on them and 2 dollar cups of root beer. Definitely go there for bagels: they are yummy, toasted to perfection, with a large selection of bread types and fresh ingredients to choose from. The San Diego, which I highly recommend, is priced at 7.80€ and contains avocado, tomato, pastrami, French mustard, 2 types of cheeses + garlic cream cheese - a bit expensive because the bagel is not huge, bit truly delicious. Desserts are in my sense less of a highlight - we had a strawberry and apple crumble and a chocolate fondant (around 3.50€ each), both obviously homemade, but a little too sugary (and believe me, this is not something you often hear from me!) read more

Bagels and Brownies is nearly a perfect transplant of a New York City Bagel Shop in Paris. My limited French ability did not allow me to question how they developed their concept so well, but it's seriously very well done. The layout of the place is very simple. A large counter with a glass divider separates you from a squad of busy employees, and opposite the counter is a narrow bench with a few stools for those that wish to eat their bagel immediately (no extra charge!). I spied a bagel shop staple on their menu: bagel and lox (saumon fume) and a few others. I opted for the California bagel. A toasted bagel with cream cheese, avocado, turkey, and tomatoes. To begin with, it was really nice to even have bagel sandwiches available in Paris. The cream cheese was very good (I suspect they make their own, but it definitely reminded me of Philadelphia cream cheese), and the avocado was deliciously tender and sweet. I hadn't had avocados at all since I left for an extended stay in Paris, and it was definitely a welcome ingredient to the sandwich. The shop attracts a lot of customers, ranging from teenage students who attend a nearby Polytechnic School to elderly customers who seem like regulars. Ordering might seem daunting, especially since the staff moves with blazing speed to accommodate customers, but its definitely possible to spy the menu from outside so you know exactly what to order when you get in. I always seek out bagels wherever I am. They are one of my top 5 fave bread products, and I would like to think I am a reliable source. (I've had bagels from Fairmount Bagel and St-Viateur Bagel in MTL, as well as NY Bagel and Bialy in Chicago...And I hate Panera's bagels, for you state-siders, just so you know where I stand). This place is really popular at the lunch hour with Parisian lycéens, and there is usually a line. The workers will ask you for your bread of choice while you are still in line, so be ready! They have nature, pavot, oignon, fromage, sesame...and probably a couple of others that I can't remember off-hand. They offer a list of bagel sandwiches that are named, of course, after North American cities. All of which have little or nothing to do with the cities themselves. The "Chicago" has tuna on it, for example. (??) But among the ingredients are avocados, cream cheese, tomatos, smoked turkey, salmon, roast beef, mustard (American yellow and a l'ancienne)...etc. They have some really tasty combos to choose from, and also offer a formule at lunchtime: sandwich, drink, dessert/chips (depends on the day...) for somewhere between 6-9 euros. Found Bagels and Brownies near our hotel and cannot recommend it more highly. Simple small shop, but just great for a light breakfast and afternoon treat. The bagels and sandwich ingredients are all fresh and the brownies and other other pastry items are delicious. They have a number of bagel sandwiches named after American cities or you can make your own. This was our go to place for each morning we were in Paris. Give it a try. read more

I didn't get a good look at everything they had to offer, I really only went there because I was looking for a Sephora and saw "brownie" on the map. The guy helped me chose the Marquis because he said it was the most chocolatey. He spoke English and was really nice. Not the best brownie I've ever had, but the customer service was very good. read more
