I have been wanting to check this place out since I heard of it - but just found myself in Lincoln recently. There was a place in Omaha that used to have sun-dried tomatoes and I have been missing them so bad. Found out that this place has them and woke early but order a dozen to pick up before I left town - took them home and they are freezing up really nice. The staff was wonderful and the place is a great place to hang out at. I got a breakfast sandwich as well and it was so good. I plan to make a more regular routine of getting down there. read more

Visited on Easter staff was very attentive and quickly greeted us as we came in. It was pretty busy with half the tables full. We ordered a breakfast sandwich and iced coffee and chi. Employees were friendly. The sandwich was delicious, great flavor and cheese selection. Made fresh when ordered, asiago bagel was soft with the perfect browning without being tough. I enjoyed the Cadbury cold foam added a fun option to treat myself on my white mocha. The bagels and schmear from B&J has me in a chokehold. Y'all... try the apple cinnamon bagel toasted with brown sugar schmear and thank me later. My first sandwich here was the classic bagel and lox on a Asiago bagel with dill schmear. It was soo yummy, but I think the smoked salmon was too salty for me. Could've been the batch I had. I've also made a custom breakfast sandwich with the jalapeno bagel, basil aioli, tomato, sausage, egg, American cheese. I would so order it again and again. The coffee is okay, nothing spectacular. I think they could add more flavored coffees, but that's coming from a girl who loves sweet coffee. The food here however, 10 out of 10. Ambiance is chill, welcoming, relaxing. I love coming here and seeing the older folks enjoying each others company while playing board games. It might be my favorite thing ever. read more

Biggest complaint was I had no idea you were supposed to wait at the one counter and order so I wasted about 20 minutes standing at the cash register just to have to go to the end of the line, only to discover there's a pick up station that's not labeled. So some signage would be nice for new customers. Besides that blunder the food was excellent and drinks were delicious. Lots of seating or can easily order to go. Would recommend buying extra smear for your bagel, but that's from a native NYer who loves a lot of smear. Would recommend. read more

What's not to love here? My family and I have been coming here for many years, it's a locals favorite, and it's incredible to see how they expanded in the city! Driving through the area and needed a quick reasonable breakfast. This place looked like an upscale Frontier restaurant in Albuquerque; yes, I realize they're totally different. But both are local establishments with quite the following. The order turnover was pretty rapid with 6 or more folks helping customers seemingly constantly. Very clean and everything seemed local and efficient. Even their colorful menu boards are done by a local artist. The place was pretty packed with all ages, too. Had their veggie breakfast burrito, which looked small but was full of eggs. They even had two different types of drip coffee, which was surprising. Because I have liked it in the past I keep giving it more chances, you probably will not get exactly what you ordered, and the employees seem annoyed, stressed, and overworked. First time trying the Bagels and Joe on Old Cheney, usually I'll go to the one downtown. Now, I know to never come to this location. Their process for ordering is convoluted and seemed to confused the baristas more as to who's been helped and who hasn't. Me and my friend were the first people to walk into the line and three people got helped before us. The manager had to ask if we got skipped over and over again and called for people to come help, who then also proceeded to skip us. It was about four people who were able to be helped and get their orders while we stood watching everyone get helped before us. Also, don't order any of the mochas unless you like drinking straight syrup. As soon as I saw the price, I almost walked out. $7 for a cup of syrup and an extra 15 minutes of my time I could've spent somewhere else. Go to the Foundry downtown instead. read more

What is wrong with this place. Every time I have been here the people who wait on you are SO rude. I literally wanted a bagel with light cream cheese (appears on the menu) and I got snapped at the they didn't have that. Then the bagel I selected wasn't available (still cooking) and she would not let me choose another and said it would be done soon. She spoke to me as if I were a child. No concept of service. I will give it two stars because I think the bagels are actually good but it always leaves me feeling bad because of the way they treat you. Just updating a bit after being here quite a few times. Okay, I'm not trying to be a jerk here but I'm pretty over the menu. Ordered a Turkey Pannini and it was a squished flat cheese bagel with turkey slices in it and some wayyyyy too hot sauce and I think some cheese. That's it. The bagels to me are just okay. Pretty doughy and a bit soft. The everything bagel just doesn't do it for me, normally everything bagels are my fave. This one is too strong and too salty and the texture like I said, too doughy. The cream cheese options that they have are pretty good. Lots of different choices. Have tried the soups and not impressed. Not homemade. Also not sure why they don't give you an option to add pickles to your sandwich. Since the sandwiches are pretty darn bland, it would help. Also, would be great if we could order melted cheese on our sandwiches and the option of toasted bread. Just really not impressed with the flavors of the food here. Also, please, I realize that some of the younger employees (the regular gals) are cute and that's how they get most of their tips but the attitudes and sulky faces just bum me out so much I completely stopped going in. Still, I always give a nice tip but come on, I try to be friendly and happy and sure wish they would do the same. read more

Bagels & Joe is great, not least because they actually sell lox. Do you know how freakin hard it is to find lox in Lincoln? It's hard. Insert inappropriate metaphor here. They also sell plain and flavored cream cheeses, breakfast and lunch paninis, pastries, and coffee. They ALSO have live music once per week (friday nights). There is free wifi if you (like me) want to nurse your huge bagel for a couple hours while studying or "working." The staff is very friendly, they will act as a waitstaff if you need them to, and the coffee refills are a quarter. The place does fill up on weekends (this kind of clean, friendly, cafeteria-like space is old people catnip) so get in early or take it to go. I come here as often as I can, and so should you. read more

In addition to bagels w myriad choices of cream cheese, the menu includes a variety of salads and sandwiches. On the counter top you will find a special treat: the best scotcheroos in town. The toddy here is served ON DRAFT, truly impressive. I have yet to encounter a staff person who is less than 100% gracious and sincere. This is a boomer hot spot, but the customers are kind to people not of their generation, smiling as they look up from their card games. Prices are excellent - iced toddy latte, bagel and cream cheese and a scotcheroo with tip for $10. I stopped to ask if they'd added everything to my bill! read more

I actually stopped here for lunch so I can't tell you anything about the "bagels and joe" here. What I did get here was a nice refreshing light chicken mandarin wrap for lunch. The mandarin I believe can also be ordered as a salad or as a panini sandwich. Anyway, it consisted of white chicken, mandarin orange slices, water chestnut slices, lettuce, and an "asian" dressing. You can wash this down with a nice selection of freshly brewed ice teas. Overall a very good tasty light lunch that won't make you too sleepy on the road. read more

She stopped helping us and took steps back to wait on her friends. She left us in the middle of ordering and preparing our bagels to help her friends and move them ahead of us. Then after a 5 minute conversation with her friends she returned to finish our order. I asked to speak to a manager, but was told no one was there. They are clearly a coffee and bagel place and with that said, you can get them any way you want them. I opted for the breakfast burrito and was pleasantly surprised. I needed a coffee shop to work at for a day while waiting for a friend. This place is as good as it gets. Clean, nicely decorated interior (not overbearing), and plenty of open tables (at least on this Wednesday). And fairly fast, free wifi (ask for the password at the counter). The staff is truly helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. The food and coffee are excellent, and all reasonably priced. I ate breakfast (bagel) and lunch (panini and salad) here and both were nothing short of fantastic. If you're going to stay for a while, save your cup, refills are only 25 cents! It's rare to find a coffeehouse (in the Midwest) that's this good at these prices. Bagels & Joe is really a gem. If I find myself back in Lincoln, I would not hesitate to come back here. read more
