I've been here three time over the past several months and I have been impressed every time. The ambiance is wonderful, with so much variety in where to sit, privacy in case someone needs to work or be out of the way for a quiet conversation. Staff are so friendly and helpful and on one of my visits, I asked if I could buy one of their cups to take home - they don't sell them but the barista told me where the get theirs and shared the website address in case I wanted to buy one there. Great coffee shop, you can tell it's a staple in the neighborhood. There was always a hum of people in and out, some off to the side in the hightops studying their computer screens and sipping hot drinks. There were also groups of co-workers and small tables of 2 or 3 friends. I found myself here waiting for a client for lunch. He was running behind which gave me a chance to really take it all in. I ordered a tea. The barista was very patient (it always takes me forever to decide what to order) and really accommodating. The atmosphere was nice. I liked that there was local artwork and the rooms are kind of broken up with little seating areas here and there. The lighting is low/natural, but it's still bright and cheery. They also have some sort of entertainment/open mic during the week, I wish I had time to sneak away and see it It's got all the things you would want in a coffee shop and possibly even more, including yummy food (I need to get back and try that pizza!). I had a krab salad and it was just what I wanted. It was light, fresh, and yummy. Great flavors. Not super creamy. My colleague had the BLT with chips and pickles and had nothing but good things to say about his meal too. I ordered a Cosmic Meltdown and was not prepared for the enormous everything bagel, toasted and piled high with a rich but light cream cheese (unsure how they got it so fluffy?! Came in over lunch to get some work done. First time in despite living in the area for about a year. I should have visited a long time ago! I love the cozy atmosphere and it's a great place to study or work. Didn't get any coffee today but did try the spring green salad. It was huge and you definitely get a lot of bang for your buck. Got it with the balsamic dressing but would love to try the creamy dill next time. They have a great selection of breakfast, sandwiches, flat breads, and pastries as well. I've been coming to Mo Java for the last seven years, and it's been awesome to see this neighborhood coffee shop develop into one of the best coffee shops in town. They roast their own beans, and always have 4 roasts to choose from (dark, light, flavored, decaf). They have a unique menu with some fantastic bagel sandwiches. They got a liquor license a few years back, and have a great selection of beers and mixed drinks. This has absolutely everything I could want in a coffee house. The atmosphere is perfect for reading and studying with randomly shaped comfy chairs everywhere, tables for reading or eating and coffee tables for lounging and enjoying a coffee. Every time I've been there the baristas have been really friendly and helpful. I haven't had any of the food from there, but my friends have said that the sandwiches are great. My favorite coffee is their almondjoy mocha which is pretty much to die for. Also, if you have it there they do the cute little design on the top Prices are very affordable. Great lattes, the best hot chocolate, and pretty good food! Perfect meeting space or catching up with friends. My coworkers and I try to come here often for meetings because it's quite, but inviting and innovative. Love their food options, but the one time I ordered a breakfast sandwich it was tasty but still cold/icey in the middle. I've been here a couple times during a lunch break. They have a nice patio out back, & yummy homemade scones, muffins, & sandwiches. It's also in a really cute area near the NE Wesleyan campus. I am not a coffee drinker, but it should be noted that I was introduced to this place by coffee drinkers. I think they roast their own beans - it's supposedly very good. My grandson didn't want to eat there, "as it was a coffee house and there's nothing there he'd like". Well, big surprise when he saw the breakfast pizza. He was animated when he found out that it was available all day, not just for breakfast. He couldn't stop talking about how good it was, over and over. He is now a believer. The coffee is good, as long as it is hot. Twice I have ordered drip coffee which has come out of their air-compression carafes lukewarm. I would recommend something espresso based, because that's really their gem. Avoid the drip coffee altogether. Seems that there are pastries and food too, however I haven't sampled any of that. I was with a friend who ordered a breakfast sandwich of some sort once though, she said it was "just fine." I wanted to love this establishment; the space is cute and comfortable. The employees are polite, unless you try to order a drink by something other than the novelty name they have assigned it, then they will correct you. (Why call it an Electric Eel? Everywhere else in the world, with the exception of the other coffee shop in Lincoln which calls it something as equally ridiculous, refers to it as a Red Eye. Check Wikipedia if you don't believe me). However, honestly the clientele is what keeps me away. I can't tell if its an AA group or just some loud locals, but more than once I have attempted to do homework at this establishment and have been unable to tune out these particular regulars being loud and saying some rather ignorant, hard to ignore things. Additionally, I am not even going to describe my one experience with "live music" at this venue. If you live in the neighborhood, I do recommend it. If you don't I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

I have now been there twice, but not sure why. It is a quaint environment, which is the only plus. Sandwich options are limited, and when they are done with your order, they put it on the counter. Both times I have not heard them announce that it was ready (if they do?), so I guess you have to watch constantly. Since they have canned soda, they were out of all diet, which is all I drink. Menu options of the day were confusing as well, and the they are not overly helpful in figuring it out. So: Pros: Quaint environment Cons: Food options are limited, and thus only so so. Stopped in for a late breakfast. My gps had me circling the block and had it not been for a quick glance down a side street I would have missed the place. This coffee house is a real gem. The staff are friendly the atmosphere is really laid back and the coffee/food is high quality and very well priced. I had the medium roast which was really flavorful along with the Krab Bagel which came out full of tomatoes. I didn't read the board good enough because I hate tomatoes. However there were so many it would have killed the dish to try and remove them so I just sucked it up and ate. Wow who would have thought someone could get me to like tomatoes. Love this place: for wine and coffee. Far enough away from UNL campus that it isn't packed all the time with the same crowd of college students. Prices are reasonable, considering I have a $10 a month budge when it comes to coffee/tea. My favorite black tea here is the Black Mango. No charge for a refill of water so that you can seep the tea again. Blueberry scones are excellent, as is the rest of the food here: bagels, salads, pizza. They also have a water cooler out for water. Honey for your tea is no charge. Service is magnificent. During the weekends, they also host live bands. Pleasant playlist, so I rarely wear head phones. Interesting place... I could see how Mo Java Cafe & Roasting could have been THE PLACE TO BE in the early 2000s (as the interior design reflects that era). It is in need of some updating for sure. I would not recommend Mo Java because it was a bit dingy and expensive. A previous reviewer described this place as "goofy" and "uncomfortable", and I would totally agree. When I was there I had the Foggy London, it was good but not worth the money unfortunately. read more

I'm writing this review now on their lightening-quick wifi (password available at the bottom of your receipt, so make sure to ask for a copy of the receipt to take back to your table). This place is a little pricier than I'd like, which almost made me take off a star, but I'm seduced by the caramel latte (YUM), the avocado melt, and the variety of choices for house coffee (comes with one free refill). Nice background music and friendly staff. Plenty of plugs for laptops, though I wish there were a few couches or comfier seating options. I'll be back! read more

MoJava is wonderful! The decor is typical coffee-house, quiet and woody with trendy tunes in the background. Their coffee is prepared expertly. I hate to admit this... But on the rare occasion I want flavored black roasted coffee I come here. Their flavored blends are great. I've also had their scones-super tasty and flaky. The chocolate is amazing. Best scone I've had in Lincoln. The dill cream cheese is my favorite cream cheese ever. They make a killer bagel sandwich. The only negative is that they open at 7. Undoubtably the best coffee shop in northeast Lincoln (though if you're willing to drive a bit longer, there are a few better places downtown on P street). It's locally-owned, there are plenty of tables, they roast their own beans, there is free wifi, the sandwiches and espresso drinks are pretty good (see Matthew P's comments about drip coffee), and the staff is friendly. It's a great place to meet with old friends over holiday break, sit at the bar and sip a scotch, or to try to get some homework done (but write Yelp reviews instead). Drawbacks include somewhat restrictive hours, and sometimes painful musical acts on Friday and Saturday nights. read more

This was our first and only visit. I was very clear and slow in ordering a 3 shot 16oz cappuccino. I even repeated it because she did not repeat it back (order taking 101). I ended up with (and was charged for) a quad shot cappuccino & a quad shot espresso. When I said I only ordered a triple cap, the barista said they only pull an even number of shots. I wouldn't have a problem with that if the girl had explained it. I said I didn't want 4 shots. He acted frustrated and said he could pull the second shots light. The girl refunded me some money but didn't say a word. Nobody apologized. The espresso in the cappuccino tasted harsh and slightly burnt. My family got a latte and a white mocha. They are not picky about coffee, but both said their's were not good. There are several great coffee shops in Lincoln. This is definitely not one of them. read more

So sad! Mo Java changed their menu and are no longer offering The Turk. The only reason I drove across town was to have The Turk for lunch today, only to learn that they don't serve it anymore. Instead, I had to build a sandwich that was similar to The Turk, but was missing the key ingredients - slivered almonds and Granny Smith apple slices. Granted, the sandwich I had was ok, but it wasn't The Turk. Plus, it cost about $7.50 for a sandwich that consisted of turkey, provolone cheese, red onions and lettuce on a ciabatta roll. I won't be heading back to Mo Java any time soon. read more
