6 month follow-up update…read more. I know you may have been waiting with bated breath, so I'll try my best to keep this short. After 20+ additional emails (between both parties), we were finally able to receive our federal and state abatements from 2024. While this is good news and we are pleased with the outcome, it does not negate the unpleasant experience. After the last review, they took note and designated someone to call the IRS on our behalf, instead of repeatedly sending papers in the mail that the IRS would never receive. After receiving the federal abatement, we then had to ask them to help with the state abatement. In case you aren't aware (since I was initially not educated on this matter), you are allowed a 1-time federal and state abatement. Meaning, if you are in good standing, they will erase your fines, but not the interest. Some additional notes: 1. They are a global team, as their new name implies (Unified Global). This means that your team may be located in various time zones and countries. 2. Their software is straightforward and simple to follow, which I did appreciate. 3. Their timelines for filing, in my opinion, do not include a sufficient buffer if you have additional questions and/or corrections. We were asked several times to remove the last review, and after some thought, I have chosen to amend it. Similar to prior Yelpers, I believe that it they have improved their services, my initial review will just be background noise as the one off.

I usually do not like to deal with people that do business as I personally encountered too many vaporware outfits that use these temporary offices and are easily used as a disposbile front. But based upon the great reviews on Yelp I thought I was dealing with someone with integrity. Boy was I wrong! Red flag number one. When I met with Wasi at this locatoin verbally quoted me $350 to handle my taxes for 2014. I wish I had got that in writing or on video on my iphone while I was sitting with him. When I contacted him at this number he only replied once, then I never got a reply to my many calls again to this location or the Newark office. Apparently he does this to a lot of clients if your read the 'other' reviews on Yelp. I did some further investigation on line and found this was only satellite office of his firm in Newark. Thank God that they decided to open another location close to work. The new location is right where the Bank of America on Lytton Ave is. Since I have no time to squeeze coming in to their office, Wasi was kind enough to offer to pick up my documents at my work. He took it with him, process it and BAM! It was done in no time. Since I forgot that I had an appointment with him to pick it up and sign my tax refund on that day that we agreed upon, he took the liberty of dropping it off to my work instead. How freaking awesome is that? I don't think any accountant will do that. Customer Service at it's finest!!! Obviously, I have been very happy with his services that I do not consider taking my business somewhere else. He is very professional and dependable and definitely takes pride in what he does. He cares about his clients and make sure that you are happy with their services. I suggest calling them to make an appointment. If we had not reached out, it's certainly possible we wouldn't have even been able to get the extension submitted in time. Do not use Kathy for your taxes…read more Not only did Kathy miss the deadline for filing our taxes, she failed to provide communication, and most importantly lost us money. When the deadline for tax filing was 2 days away, I noticed we had heard nothing from Kathy. I reached out and after 24 hours finally managed to get a response which stated they were very busy and we'd have to file an extension. The onus was completely on me to remind my accountant that my taxes weren't filed. It was an inconvenience to say the least and we had to scramble to get the extension filed on time. Had we been on vacation or had extraneous life events we would have been financially penalized. Secondly, I had other family employ Kathy and they also had the same experience (lack of communication and taxes filed late) -- so it was not just us. And finally, Kathy had us overpay our taxes by nearly $11,000! Instead of having that money returned in our accounts, she assumed we'd want it applied at a 2022 tax credit. When I called and said that's not what I wanted and didn't realize that's what the paperwork was, she rudely stated, "rule number one: know what you are signing". If I understood taxes on a legal level I wouldn't hire an accountant - I explained this to Kathy and I said that's what I hired her for -- to understand and clarify the legal language for me. She again, rudely told me, "Rule number one: know what you are signing". Given this level of service and extreme incompetence, coupled with flat out rude behavior, I would never recommend her. Kathy's an incompetent accountant who I would not trust to do anyone's taxes after this experience.
