Once that was complete, he shared information on their tax return preparation fees so I understood the cost. We then had a quick meeting (I selected to this virtually, but you can also meet in person) to go through my details. Sean provided a form for me to indicate which tax related forms and documents I had, how many and any notes. You share all of the information securely via Dropbox. The reason I kept using him is he will actually go over your case and plan for you. Most CPAs want easy cases so they do it cheaply at high volume. I had an awful experience with him. To be short, my case for 2016 was investigated by IRS and I am required to pay a penalty. I admit I have responsibilities in this issue. But the reason I go to a CPA for help is really because my English is not good and I don't quite understand the policies related to tax report. I donated some money to the university and I thought the money would be suitable for a deduction in tax. Unfortunately, it couldn't. And Sean wasn't aware of it either. I don't know each job you have worked for will generate a W2 form for tax report. I only received one W2 by mail and I handed in that one. He didn't check and didn't figure out anything wrong. Indeed, I know my English is not good and there might be some miscommunications. That's my problem. However, I really I think Sean is not that professional with the policies and not very careful, even though Sean may think he has no faults in my case. I don't want to argue with him on whether he has responsibility or not anymore. The keep point is: YOU want to hire a CPA to save yourself some effort, but it turns out to be a lot more messy.
