Many folks have simple tax returns and can plug numbers into the online tax software and be done in ten minutes. That was my approach for years. However, as my tax situation became more complicated, the need for a trusted tax advisor became more apparent. While completing our tax return, we identified "obvious" errors on my self-prepared via an online software tax return. The "additional" tax refund from fixing my errors more than covered the much-deserved fees (which were reasonable). If I had written this review 10 years ago, I would have gave them 5 stars! I think that David was excellent and was easy to work with and always met my needs. I worked with this company for over 5 years and they did a good job! Then a tragedy hit my life. My husband died and I was financially strapped waiting for life insurance to kick in. I asked for a discount on taxes, which David of course accommodated and I was grateful for his understanding. What I didn't expect was that he would then "fire me" as a client in the new year saying that he didn't think I could afford him anymore and using very disrespectful terms such as "Some of the other tax matters you have going on need some hand-holding as well". I think the language could be kinder and not so condescending. I can understand if we part ways due to finances, but I think that should have been a decision that I made and not one that was made for me. So I would not recommend anyone using them as they are great when things are good, but are not helpful and somewhat disrespectful when things are not going good. read more

Five stars, more if we could! We can't thank David Curran enough for his professionalism, knowledge, and hard work! We were in the last weeks of escrow before closing on a home. Our loan was conditionally approved up until our bank needed an amended tax return and a letter verifying our foreign income. This was the last condition before our loan was approved, and it was a make-it or break-it deal for our bank. It was the Monday before the July 4th holiday on Tuesday, and we were really freaking out! We looked up so many CPAs and called at least 10-15 numbers- everyone was either gone for the long holiday or did not pick up. When we first called David, he immediately picked up and assessed our situation. He quickly emailed us a quote that estimated the cost for what we needed. The rates he provided us were very reasonable for the work to be done. He responded to our inquires quickly and professionally. We knew that we wanted to work with David because we could tell he genuinely cared and wanted to help our time sensitive problem! Ashley and David set us up immediately with their online Smart Vault system and portal. This allowed us to safely and securely upload sensitive files to share with them. David set us up with an appointment on Wednesday where he briefed us on the work he had done so far on our tax amendment. His office was located in San Jose and was easy to find. David spent the time to discuss details of our situation and answered our questions very clearly. He was very thorough but concise on every detail that was being changed to the tax amendment. David also helped verifying our foreign income by reviewing our documents. This he carefully reviewed and reflected in our tax amendment. He even made international calls to the HR companies we worked for outside of the US. David carefully verified all the details to our employment and issued a letter confirming our foreign employment. Although he estimated that the work would be done Thursday, David actually completed our tax amendment the day before by Wednesday evening. He emailed a signed tax amendment PDF and even issued a letter detailing the key changes made to the amendment. Additionally, he provided the letter confirming our foreign employment. This was all our bank needed to verify our income. Our bank underwriter was easily able to understand David's work on our tax amendment. Now our home loan is approved and we owe it all to David's help. His work was flawless, timely, and thorough- he was very accessible both through email and phone calls. He is truly a professional in his field who was able to help us in a time sensitive situation! Beyond his quality work as a CPA, David is a jovial, compassionate, and trustworthy gentleman. I was impressed meeting these folks on the first visit. I had a sizeable tax return project to do. I put in data for 6 weeks and then they postponed working on my personal returns of 7 years. A few months later, I wanted to see what was done on the first return, I never saw anything but first got a bill for reviewing hours of approx 12 hours. I did not hire them to do reviews, I hired them to do tax returns. I never saw any of my tax returns, not even the first one, I received zero tax advice, strategy or requests to going over anything during a 3-4 month period. I gave up, and ended the business relationship because they were too hands-off and do not work proactively with a client to complete tasks. read more
