DO NOT GIVE YOUR DONATIONS TO THIS PLACE…read more THIS IS AN IRRESPONSIBLE AGENCY!!! They solicit donations and DO NOT COME PICK IT UP EVEN AFTER CONFIRMING SCHEDULE!!! My parents received fliers from Make a Wish asking for donations such as household items, toys, etc. Since they were incidentally in midst of moving, they went through things and neatly packaged 10+ large bags of toys and clothing, and household items. They called ahead to schedule a pickup and later also called to confirm and left messages. On the scheduled day (also written on the flyer), they set the items out on the curb during early morning waiting for pickup. Being senior folks themselves, they went through a lot of trouble and carried many bags of heavy items to the curb. Yet the donation pickup NEVER CAME. NO CALL NO SHOW NADA. At the end of the day, they had to go out and drag everything back themselves. With intentions to help and make a difference, they were left disappointed, angry and with an injured back. ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THIS SHOULD NOT BE SOLICITING FOR DONATIONS. THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED TO PUT THE DONATIONS TO GOOD USE. WE WILL NOT BE SUPPORTING THIS CAUSE AGAIN.

She scanned my item, turned the screen around to me, and walked away without a word. I had to finish the transaction myself. I understand that most of the workers here are volunteers, but basic customer service skills go far. Pricing is done with a color dot system and the pricing is fair. It is pretty clean for a thrift store. Unfortunately, the poor service left me with a bad taste in my mouth, so I won't return to shop or donate.

They always provide tickets and info about a variety of local activities such as music, arts, and sports for kids and they host great picnics every May as well. The only problem I have is that we have had 4 different match consultants, so I have never felt like any consultant really known my little and I. I have been a Big Brother to a 9 year old boy for 1 year and 5 months so far and it has been an…read moreamazing experience. We hang out for about an hour once a week unless I'm traveling or sick. Sometimes BBBS gives us tickets to special events or I take him for ice cream but the most important thing I can do is spend time with him even if it's just walking around the park or going to the library. I don't consider myself a stellar role model but just getting consistent attention from a male is something he has lacked and I've seen a lot more stability and happiness in him since we started. A few other people have complained of their match support contact changing but I have had Elizabeth as my contact since the beginning and she has been great. Also, it's important to set boundaries from the beginning otherwise the kids will see how much they can get you to spend on them. But as long as you give them clear expectations on how much time and money you will invest, then when you tell them 'no I'm sorry I can't do that' then they will still trust and love you (even though they may pout). For example, I explained to my Little that it was his Mom's job to provide for him and that, as his big brother, I like treating him occasionally but it is not my role to feed him and if he's ever hungry there is plenty of food at his home. Again, the main thing they need from you is attention on a somewhat consistent basis so you don't have to be a super hero. As I said, this has been awesome and even though there are weeks where I'm exhausted and don't feel like going to see him, we have formed such a close bond that I find myself bragging about how smart and funny he is to all my friends. All systems are flawed so don't expect perfection but overall this is a great program and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to invest a few hours a month to make a lifetime impact on a person.

I'm right where I belong, in the City of Excellence ;) here's the thing... you aren't excellent if you aren't leaning in to help others. I'm passionate about a ton of things, giving back to others is one of the most important. I rescheduled my every 56 days blood donation to a nearby American Red Cross but being in my new town for two weeks seeing all that it gives, I knew it was time to research how I can make an immediate impact. North Texas Food Bank was a result of my research and I'm so excited about today's effort. After relocating I suppose it's quite fitting to select "Pack and Box" it's literally all I'd been doing the past few weeks, why stop now?!! I had the greatest first time volunteer experience. I signed up last night right before bed because and knew I was going to the gym at 6a with my neighbor so I selected the 1p (arrive by 1230p) time slot. Creating a new volunteer account was super straight forward. I was adding this event to my calendar within minutes. I was greeted by the sweetest ladies upon arrival, offered a locker key (wear a fanny pack if you don't have pockets and wish to bring your phone in) as you aren't wearing aprons. I left my phone in the locker. We did a brief orientation, hand washing and then volunteered for our assignments. I've put together a ton of boxes lately, so I opted for packing. I'm not certain I've ever handled so much boxed milk in my entire lifetime! I was first in the assembly line working hand in hand with Apple juice volunteer and let me just say, we did the damn thang!!! It was such a fun experience I never took a single break. My right arm will soon remind me of this fact. We packed 960 boxes, totaling 20 pallets, weighing 28,800 lbs, creating 24,000 meals! I'm a numbers nerd and love the data following your shift. It makes it that much more rewarding. Impact you can see and feel. There were several corporate groups, families and solo volunteers. Everyone was very kind. I'll definitely be volunteering here on a regular basis as my schedule provides. Thank you so much North Texas Food Bank! As a foodie, meals for those in need is a cause I hold near and dear to my heart. Highly recommend if you're looking to serve others. There are a variety of opportunities. I selected this one today but I may explore others in the near future. Hands down a superb way to spend 3 hours, and the warehouse is nice and cool on a warm day. The building is the size of 4 football fields, so it's massive. It felt so good to give back to our community.
