I do not recommend going here, it is worth it to drive a little ways and find a different eye doctor. I have been going to eye appointments as long as I can remember and no experience has been like this one, so uncomfortable and inconvenient. There is a huge lack of communication with everyone and the patient, they are guaranteed to be running late, VERY late, and be ready to feel uncomfortable with the doctor. Especially as a young woman. The office is small, the room with the doctor is tiny, and he threw a temper when I told him I wasn't comfortable being in there alone, I had the front desk lady come in with me on my second experience. The only reason I had to go back was to get my trial contacts. I did not go back after my appointment and went to a different place to fulfill the rest of my needs. This place is old and unkept. I came in February and the office was still decorated in Christmas with Christmas music playing... I'm going to add that the doctor WILL dilate your eyes no matter what, I was very confused and upset that he did not ask me for my consent which I believe is LEGAL to do before a doctor dilates your eyes, I wasn't able to see clearly for a while after I left and I drove myself. If you look in the front office , you will see they give everyone those dark glasses for after your eyes get dilated, I don't understand why he is doing this, it is not necessary. When I moved to Laie I was excited to have an eye dr office so close to home. I set an appointment for my husband at I pm a Friday at 3:15. We showed up and had to wait for them to unlock the door and let us in. We then were asked repeatedly about if we had Covid or felt sick. We were asked to fill out an intake form that had so many unrelated questions. Then after waiting half an hour he called me back. I'm a young woman and the Dr is an older man so I asked if my husband could sit with me in the room. He threw a huge fit and said "what you don't speak english?" And I was like no but.... And he was like "no only 1 person at a time" I've been wearing glasses and contacts since I was 8 and have never had the kind of exam he gave me. He put yellow Drops in and then red drops in and then made me sit in the waiting room again for a long time. He asked me a ton of questions and threw another fit when I told him I was currently wearing contacts and said that I needed to take them out. Felt very unprofessional and inconsiderate of how I felt or how his practice was being portrayed. I would not recommend this place the owners and workers are weird and there's something up or their super health conscious or something but I was uncomfy and won't be going back. read more

No need for the large box companies. Perfect for your vision, great selection nothing ridiculously overpriced, smart lenses and frame choices. I am being generous by giving this joint one star. If you're reading this it means that you are most likely considering coming here. DONT! I don't know what is going on behind the scenes of this place and the people that run it so I feel kinda bad writing this bad review, but I'm hoping that by reading this you save a few hours of your life. I originally called to make an appointment here about a week ago and showed up a couple minutes early for it. They told me that they were running behind and at first I was okay with waiting because I know how life gets sometimes. Little did I know that I would spend the next 3 HOURS at the eye doctor waiting to be seen. Once I was finally seen, the doctor started dropping eye drops into my eyes without warning or consent. When I asked him what he was doing, he made me feel like a complete idiot by saying things like "you don't already know what i'm doing?" "have you ever been to an eye doctor appointment before" "this is a general routine that all eye exams include" etc. Little did I know he had DILATED MY EYES. He then had me wait outside for even longer, on top of that original three hours. I was so confused why my eyes were burning and I was having a hard time seeing. I was planning on driving myself home afterwards, so this was a little concerning. A couple people I've talked to have shared this next experience of feeling like you're in a game show when he takes you back into the exam room and starts showing the classic #1 or #2 views, asking which one is clearer. He sounded like an actual auctioneer because of the lack of time given to respond. I was stressed out and frustrated, and won't even go into detail about all the other things that happened because i'm sick of writing this. Long story short, after continuous last minute rescheduling on their end and more visits, I finally got my contacts. Just PLEASE, I BEG, DO NOT MAKE THE DAMN APPOINTMENT. GO ANYWHERE ELSE. I've seen Dr, Baize over 10 years. He is very thorough, and very busy. However, he doesn't rush through appointments even if he is running behind schedule. He has always answered all my questions. His spouse runs the front office and is very friendly and helpful. I thought all eye doctors were of the same caliber until I visited my home town Boulder, Colorado and found that eye doctor extremely apathetic. When I returned home and saw Dr Baize, the difference was startling, he was much more thorough and professional than the former. I feel fortunate to have him for my doctor. As for his wife, she is amazing and very educated that she will answer all my questions. read more

Everyone in the office including the Dr. was friendly . I didn't receive a glaucoma Test with the exam which I thought was routine. They don't take Medicare or Tricare. I thought the price of the eye exam was over priced . They were very good about giving me a refund for the glasses I ordered because I thought it over and didn't think I really needed them,and gave me my prescription for the glasses . read more

I have been going to Dr. Baize ever since my AP Calc high school teacher noticed I was squinting at the board while sitting in the front row and told me to go get my eyes checked. That was over 11 years ago now. I have always had a hard time with things coming near my eyes (which made eye exams NOT a fun prospect) but Dr. Baize was really patient with me and helped me (over the years) to get over a lot of that fear. Even though I felt stupid about it, he always made me feel smart and normal and calm. The office is always a warm and inviting atmosphere (largely because of how wonderful Dr. Baize's wife, Lizette, is). The two of them always make visits a joy. They are accurate, competent, and kind-- which is a powerful combination. I highly recommend their office to anyone in need of eyeglasses, contacts, and checkups! read more

Been going here since I've moved here from California and going to college. He's the only optometrist in Laie. I like that he's close by and I don't have to drive more than half an hour away. You end up waiting for a bit even if you've made an appointment. He likes to take his time and makes sure you're comfortable. Super nice guy. His receptionist is also his wife and she's awesome. She'll let you know what frames and contact brands are part of your plan and she'll make sure you get the best bang for your buck. They both know their stuff. Super nice people. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Baize for 15 years. He is very thorough and patient during the exam process. He takes the time to make sure that your prescription is right. He answers every question carefully. My contacts are bifocal and sometimes a challenge to get right. He gets it right every time. The staff is friendly. I recently got a pair of glasses (I have not worn glasses for a long time) for emergencies when I'm not wearing my contacts. When they arrived, Lizette made sure they fit right. Worst doctors experience I've had in years! The apt was for my 6 yr old. We showed up a couple min before the apt time. The doc strolled into the office a few min after the apt time. With no other patients in the office we finally were called back to be seen 40 MIN after the apt time. My son was scarred of the eye drops and the doc rudely just looked at him and said "if you won't take these then you should just leave now". (Um hello he's 6! And has never been to the eye doc) After putting in the drops to dilate his eyes he sent us back out to the waiting room to wait for them to take effect and said it would be 10 min. He called us back in to finish the exam 30 min later after taking in 3 other patients! After he finished his exam I asked what the results were and he REFUSED to give me an answer, instead he would just answer my questions with questions! I'd ask "so does he have a prescription? Does he need glasses?" The doc would respond with "what do you think? What are you here for? Do you think he needs glasses?" Come on guy! That's why we came to you! The "doctor"! He finally just said he'd talk to us up front and walked us out. He then turned and left without a word. His wife/ admin person took us over at that point. I asked her for the results and she gave them to me very clearly and easily. I'd also like to note that the whole time my son was in his office he (like any 6 yr old) was asking many questions and the doctor would barely even acknowledge that he was speaking. What a JERK! Friendly staff. Overpriced! It took over two weeks to get my glasses made. Even when they were done, they didn't call me. Not a lot of selections to choose from and what they have are very expensive. I am quite new to the world of glasses. No suggestions from the wife to go with a lighter frame. I think she wanted to sell the expensive frame. Vision exam took much much longer than from Costco. After getting my expensive and heavy glasses made, I found Seoul Optical in town. Go check it out. I got my second pair made in less than half the price and in 20 minutes. read more

I first saw Dr. Baize about 12 years ago and was satisfied with my care but did not realize how wonderful he was until I moved to the mainland for a few years. While on the mainland I tried a couple different optometrists but ended up sticking with the rx that Dr. Baize has given me years earlier because it worked far better than the new rxs I had received from the other optometrists. I was grateful when we moved back and I could see him again but the superior rx aren't even the beginning of what I have to be grateful for. A couple years after moving back I developed an eye infection. Within a 48 hour period I went to the ER 4 times at 3 different hospitals with excruciating pain, extreme sensitivity to light and I was going blind, hour by hour I lost more and more eyesight. Only one out of the 4 ER doctors could tell how severe it was but he was at Kahuku and did not have the ability to call in an on-call opthomalogist so he sent me to a larger hospital for specialized care the other ER doctors brushed me off and referred me to an optometrist in town. I could not have been more dissatisfied with his care and figured I would go see what Dr. Baize thought. He was fantastic! He and his wife dropped everything to help me get into an emergency appointment with an ophthalmologist who was able to save my eyesight, seriously, I couldn't see more than a couple feet away and the world had gone dark by then. I wish I had just gone to Dr. Baize sooner and skipped all the ER stuff and needless pain. read more

zero stars. no communication. no courtesy. no apology. i arrived 15 mins early for my appointment. dr baize didn't call me into his office until 23 minutes past the scheduled appointment time. no apology was provided, as if though keeping someone waiting is the norm. the appointment itself was disappointing. it was 5 minutes of checking my vision and listening to my worry of eye changes. he sends me back to the waiting room and calls in other patients. lizette who appears to be the office manager is a 'get things done' kind of woman. dr baizes office would crumble without her. she refers to the report baize has written which only advises a new prescription. thats it! the dr is done with me. no verbal advisement of his findings. he's not even available to complain to about his handling of me and lack of dr & patient conversation because he's already with another patient. i just have to settle for lizette reading the prescription report. unbelievable! in what world is this acceptable? i give up. paid my copay and left. i will NOT be returning to see this guy. i don't care if he's the only eye dr practicing in laie.
