We went today and order (Mojarra Frita ) (Whole Fried Fish)(And they served us piece of Breaded Fish) ( And Camarón al Mojo de Ajo (Garlic Shrimp)( Garlic Shrimp tasted like shrimp in tomate sauce and was pretty hard , GARLIC was no where to be found ! ! Garlic Shrimp is supposed to be butterfly opened , grilled with Garlic vs the whole shrimps in tomato sauce! They really need someone that knows how to cook (A Chef) Service was not the best , waitress kept forgetting everything we order! Not to mention, we order flour tortillas and waitress told us they only serve corn tortilla which seems very strange, So i got up and asked the lady at the register why you don't serve flour tortillas ?, which she responded : we do have flour as well as corn tortillas ! The last time we ate here was before COVID, though, and things haven't changed for the better. They didn't have the first 3 soft drink selections we tried to order, and they didn't have the first 2 lunch items we tried to order. So already the remaining options weren't top choices. They used to bring everyone a cup of the fish consommé, which was such a treat. Now it's a $1.50 extra. Nevertheless, we would've ordered it as an extra if we'd known this was an option. But I don't usually even look at the "extras" section of menus. Previously the burritos & tacos were delicious, but my husband's Tijuana burrito was very dry. I ordered the tostada shrimp & scallop aguachiles. I got a tiny bowl of very watery aguachiles with about 5 shrimp & 7 teeny tiny scallops. This came with ONE tostada shell and a package of saltine crackers. For $18+, I was not impressed. The waitress spoke zero English; that wasn't a huge deal since I'm sufficiently bilingual, but it was still kind of surprising. Once we got (and finished) our drinks, she never returned for us to order more drinks or to check whether we needed or wanted anything else. In the past we've always received excellent service. I've been here a few times but I don't think I will be spending my money here anymore. The food was mediocre, the fish tacos were good but nothing extraordinary (you can get better tacos at the roachcoach). The michelada and clamato were ok. What was definitely a "must not have", was their tostadas - the aguachile, ceviche de camarón and Al tata ($20) tostada was just bad, big disappointment. The aguachile is basically water with Chile verde- no lime or salt and mainly red onion. The tostada Tata has no flavor other than the black pasilla salsa on top(I'm assuming it's pasilla) and it's really bad. The worst part is they are understaff and the service is not the best for a Mexican sea food place that you would usually get at other sea food restaurants. The only thing I would say it's good it's their consomé (free with purchase ) other than there isn't much else nice to say. I imagine they are cutting down on quality of ingredients, you can tell. We ran into this place on the way to Mexico to get some fried fish and cocktails and decided to try it if it wasn't good we would keep rolling but they saved us lots of time and traffic. Had it not been for Groupon, I'd probably never have found myself in this restaurant but I'm glad it worked out this way. Fish Mart is located inside a shopping center off of Dairy Mart Rd. It's big, open and super clean with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They have a wide range of Mexican seafood dishes but yours truly was on the hunt for tacos and tacos I did find. Our super cool waiter was friendly and promptly brought us a fresh basket of chips, lime wedges, salsa and seafood soup, all of which are complimentary. I ordered 3 tacos: one surf & turf (carne asada and shrimp), one bacon-wrapped shrimp and one deep fried shrimp poblano taco. This was a tonnnnnnnnn of food but it was fresh, piping hot, delicious and made with high quality fish. Since this was nowhere near being a mission for healthy food, I also opted for the tamarind margarita. It was about 24 ounces of sweet, spicy, boozy deliciousness that served as the ying to the yang that were my tacos. Tasty. Last but not least, they typically have live music as well. Despite being Sunday afternoon on a rainy December day, a 4-piece mariachi band belted out an impressive set and even honored my request for some Xmas music with a great rendition of "Feliz Navidad." He advised us to try the freshly made in house Natural Lemonade which was perfect with our meal. ( We requested little sugar, and the Natural Lemonade was PERFECT). We ordered the fish tacos, one shrimp taco and one marlin taco today (7-26) from Baja Fish Mart in San Ysidro. Guessing someone in the kitchen never heard the saying: "We eat first with our eyes." The fish tacos were packed into a four compartment box where two of the compartments were much smaller than the main one; those two tacos were smashed flat open in over-lettuce stuffed corn tortillas. The other two were splayed open-- sorry I didn't add a picture. Whitish lettuce covered all of the fish tacos along with tomato bits and red onion. The fish was over the corn tortilla so by the time we tried rolling them in a hand the entire taco was overly mushy and the taco fell apart! Overall the flavor of the ingredients in the fish tacos was as unappetizing as the 1st view! The shrimp taco as likewise covered with the unsavory lettuce and bits of tomato, but the corn tortillas for these had been passed through oil that obviously hadn't been hot enough so the oil dripped from the ingredients onto the plate, on hands and clothing. The several bites taken from the ntire taco was definitely a YUCK! The shrimp in the shrimp taco had a decent flavor but again due to the old, white lettuce with little flavor, I left most of my lettuce on the plate. From my tacos I choked down a few bites of seafood, some bites from less than half of the tortillas and that was it. My wife felt a little bit better about her marlin taco but it also was not appealing. Whatever happened to this restaurant which before had been decent, our taco dinner was very unacceptable. We are very unimpressed by our purchases from Baja Fish Mart and disappointed; guess we now know we'll have to go somewhere else because this place is the totally in overpriced and underwhelming. My wife asked why the fish tacos were so much more expensive at the restaurant than the menu prices we saw online, before paying for everything??
