    Burnt lobster quesadilla
    Anne L.

I'm a little bummed that this wasn't as good as I had hoped. I'm a huge fan of seafood but this was not a particularly good experience for me. They came out to Carlsbad and setup shop around our offices. We have various new food trucks that come out weekly and I decided to give it a try since the theme was seafood. Looking at the menu, they have some of the steepest prices for a food truck..! I went with the lobster quesadilla for $8.50, which isn't horrible; but I also wanted some fries, so I got the sweet potato fries for another $8.50. I was really banking on these fries being amazing for being the same price as the lobster.. When I got my food, the fries were a decent size portion, but there weren't that many fries- they were just very big, thick cut fries... they weren't horrible, but definitely not worth the $8. While they had the occasionally sweet taste of the fries that I love, most of them were over salted. My lobster quesadilla came out half burnt as well. The lobster was fresh, but the rest of the quesadilla was not up to par. It was overly salty as well. This $20 meal was very much a disappointment.. The service wasn't anything great either. It took a long wait (15mins) before I could order something as if they were behind on orders.. but there were only 2 other people who had ordered food from here. There were more people who were just waiting around for their friends than people who actually wanted to order.

    Fish tacos! Delicious!

The food here is amazing! The chef, Felipe, always cooks bomb food! I had the rib eye and Maryland blue crab surf and turf fries, and ordered fish tacos for the kids! Big portions for the price! I also love that they're usually at a good brewery!

So good! Great and fast service, high quality food. Best served with a local pint from a craft brewery!!! Cheese fries and shrimp tacos are superb.

Surf n' turf fries w. ribeye & lobster.

One of the best food truck experiences I've had. Got the Surf n' turf fries with ribeye and lobster and it was awesome. The fries were fresh, tasty and perfectly cooked (wife said "restaurant quality", there's balsamic vinegar, rucola and super tasty cheese, not to mention the quality of the protein and seafood parts. Five stars all the way!

Best surf and turf tacos!!!! OMGEEEEE! Full of flavor!

This what is the best surf and turf tacos hands down! I am a hard critic as I think I make the best tacos but this was full of flavor and the price was great! Fast and friendly service. The breaded shrimp and fish tacos was AWESOME! and the salsas....DELISH!

Disappointing "micro shrimp taco" for 6 bucks!

The shrimp taco's tasted good but are microscopic. Super disappointed that I paid $11.88 plus a $1.00 tip for 2 micro street taco's. I am still hungry and will have to go get "lunch" now!

The food was great and for the price. I order the shrimp soup and there was so much shrimps in the order. I took the rest home to go with my dinner. It was so good, even second time around. I am going to try something different every time I visit El Shrimp Bucket for lunch. I live in El Cajon, CA people that food is worth the drive. Chef Otis Berthey

99 cent fish tacos on Tuesday!
    Nina R.

Absolutely have to try their shrimp! Went on taco Tuesday to try their 99cent tacos. Got 2 shrimp and 2 fish!! Omg it was so good!! Nothing but a saucy mess was left after eating which is the best mess to have! Tried all their sauces and they are all great. The Chipotle and the green sauce was my favorite. The red salsa and green salsa were spicy but the great kind that lights you up for a second and makes you want more. Surf and turf burrito was great too. Definitely found a great quick taco spot. Must try!!

Horrible food and very expensive, don't even bother ordering any veggie option, their veggie taco had blue cheese and soy that's it.

Two lines one to order on the left and pick up and drinks on the right side. I sent my husband to the order line as I stayed in the pick up line, thank goodness I stayed. when he came with the ticket the cashier handed him his receipt and said ok go wait back at the end of the line to pick up your food that would have been another 45 min. In line again. So stupid how hard is it to have a sign that says order first inside then wait in line to pick up. The only reason we would go back is taco tasted good. Just trying to save people some frustration.

2 words... garbage truck! Worst breakfast burrito ever, was…read moredripping oil, mostly soggy egg, salty rock hard chips, and just gross. $8 down the drain, or should I say garbage disposal. Out of all the food trucks parked, they were the only Mexican food truck I saw. Since I wanted a burrito, I decided to check this truck out and give them a try. After looking at the food options, I decided to go with the special. (Breakfast burrito). They guy at the window was on his phone, and when I asked what came on the breakfast burrito he rolled his eyes, as if I should know what came on the burrito. Irritated by me interrupting his text message, he continued typing while saying fries, cheese and pico. I thought to myself, what kind of breakfast burrito is that. So I said, that's it? Another guy popped out the window next to him and said the breakfast burrito has egg, chorizo, fries, cheese, and pico. I appreciated him helping me out since clearly the other guy didn't care. So ordered the breakfast burrito without pico. Couple minutes later he handed me my burrito on a plate with hard greasy, salty chips. Yuck! I thought I'd have better luck with the burrito. Wrong, it was the worst burrito I've tried. And I've had many burritos. First of all, the burrito did not have any fries or any form of potato. Second there was maybe one spoonful of chorizo, hardly anything. Most of the burrito was watery with grease/oil, soggy eggs and cheese. Just out right gross. Couldn't stomach but a few bites, and tossed it all away. Says a lot, because I was hungry. Never again!

Just a heads up before you go, there is no seating. It's a standing-room-only setup with barrel tables throughout the outdoor space. You order from one of the trucks, find a place to stand, and enjoy your food. The atmosphere felt lively and authentic, making it part of the experience. Service: Service was quick and efficient despite the crowd. There was even someone helping direct parking, which made arriving and finding a spot much easier. Food: The complimentary consommé completely stole the show for me. It was rich, flavorful, and packed with chunks of seafood. Every bite had a deep, savory flavor with just the right amount of spice. It was honestly my favorite thing we tried. We ordered the Gobernador, the Negrita, and fish tacos. The Gobernador was loaded with shrimp and melted cheese, creating the perfect combination of rich, savory seafood flavor. The shrimp tasted incredibly fresh and was cooked perfectly. The Negrita was another standout, piled high with shrimp, sliced avocado, and topped with an oyster that added even more fresh ocean flavor. It was served with tostadas on the side, and every bite was packed with bold seasoning, fresh seafood, and great texture. The fish taco was good and made with fresh ingredients. My bf and I are big foodies and have eaten a lot of fish tacos over the years, so we're probably tougher critics than most. While it wasn't our favorite item of the meal, it was still enjoyable, and the Gobernador and Negrita were the clear standouts for us. While the prices are a little higher, the quality, freshness, and portion sizes help justify it. Overall, this was a great experience from start to finish. Between the flavorful seafood, and generous portions, it's definitely worth coming back again.

El Prieto (Main St, San Diego) Rating: 2.5 / 5 Stars…read more I really wanted to enjoy my visit to El Prieto, but unfortunately, the experience was a series of "almosts" that didn't quite land. Here is the breakdown of my recent meal: The Food The kitchen missed the mark on a few basics. My bistec ranchero was underwhelming; the sauce was overly "tomatoey," lacking the deep, savory complexity or spice you expect from a solid ranchero. To make matters worse, the rice served on the side was noticeably cold, which is always a disappointment. The Drinks The beverage situation was equally frustrating. I was surprised to find that the bar offers no wine options at all. I decided to pivot to an Arnold Palmer, which ended up being the worst version of the drink I've ever had--the proportions were completely off. Service & Atmosphere The service felt lacking throughout the night, with very little attention paid to the table. Most off-putting, however, is the policy stated on the menu: a 45-minute window to eat. It's hard to relax and enjoy a meal when you feel like you're being timed by the staff. Verdict Between the cold sides, a limited bar, and the rushed atmosphere created by the time limit, I can't say I'd be in a hurry to return. There are too many great spots in San Diego to settle for a 45-minute countdown.

We were lucky they were not too busy when we pulled up but after we ordered, they got swarmed. Or shawarmed, perhaps. We tried the beef and chicken shawarma plate (which comes with fresh pita, hummus, rice, and garlic sauce), and the chicken cream chip with comes with breaded chicken breast. Both dishes came with these little cups of some kind of red spicy sauce that was delicious. The shawarma plate is $20 and the chicken cream chip plate is $19. It ain't cheap but this is high quality food and you get a lot of it. I know I am supposed to swoon whenever the word "wagyu" is dropped but honestly, I thought the rice was the star of the show. It had some type of cream in it that made it rich and delicious. The shawarma plate was very filling. I actually liked the chicken a little more than the wagyu beef so maybe my taste buds are off. The breaded chicken was excellent and very tasty. Parking is tight. I am not sure if the liquor store's parking spots are supposed to be used for the food truck but I saw people use them that way. Street parking is very rough in this area so good luck. Well worth a visit.

I usually get a plate with wagyu beef and chicken so I can try a little of each, and it's super filling. If you're looking for a lighter meal, it can easily be shared between two people, or stretched into lunch and dinner for one. The garlic paste is strong, so I'd order it on the side if you don't want something too garlicky (I'm the same way). Ordering and getting your food is quick and easy, and the falafel is great too -- not dry at all. Consistent, tasty, and perfect for a quick pickup meal in South Park.
