I've been having bad luck with food places this week! 14$ for a birria quesadilla that was the size of a taco and only had one tortilla that was folded in half. I have never seen a taco shop in San Diego try to pass something like that off as a quesadilla. Basically any other taco shop you will get a better bang for your buck with at least double the amount of food. Pass on this place!
I went to Tacos El Poblano really excited because I used to love this spot when I was younger. Unfortunately, my experience was really disappointing from start to finish. First, I ordered an adobada taco. The meat wasn't cooked properly on the trompo why ? :( then they threw it on the grill and ended up burning it. That completely defeats the point of even having a trompo if you're just going to burn the meat afterward. It had a bitter, burnt taste. Next, I got a carne asada taco, and it was completely overcooked and dry:(honestly, drier than the Mojave Desert. The tortilla was hard and didn't taste fresh at all. Nothing about the tacos tasted like the quality I remember. The customer service was just as disappointing. I stood in front of the carne asada guy for about 5 minutes before he even acknowledged me. What made that worse was that there were no other customers there t wasn't busy at all. The workers seemed more focused on talking and laughing with each other than paying attention to the food or the customers. I even think I saw what might've been the owner there, which makes this even more frustrating because this place used to be good. It feels like they're letting it go downhill. I'm giving this a one-star review, but I'm being honest when I say I actually want this place to get better. I'll give them one more chance in the future, but as of right now, this was a really bad experience.
It had been a while since we had Tacos El Poblano in Chula Vista. We tried the Al Pastor pork tacos, carne asada and Al Pastor pork quesadilla. The tacos & quesadilla had a generous amount of meat and guacamole. We rated the tacos and quesadilla 4/5 stars. The asada tacos were missing that smokey charcoal flavor and the Al Pastor meat could use more seasoning. I don't know if they changed their recipe, but they definitely tasted a bit different since the last time I had them. The tacos were still good. The taqueros were friendly and restaurant was clean. Food: The tacos here pretty flavorful and I love to add sauce, lime, and radishes from the little station they have there. The tostada was crispy and flavorful. Everything comes out quickly, so you're not waiting long for your food. Service: It's a fast and easy setup. You order, eat, and can pay after your meal, which is convenient. The staff keeps things moving, and the whole experience feels efficient. Ambiance: It's a small spot, but it's relatively clean and comfortable. It's not a crowded place, making it a nice little stop if you're looking for a quick, satisfying meal.
First time customer of this taco shop. Ordered a Al Pastor Burrito and an Al Pastor quesadilla. The first disappointment was the portion sizes. The quesadilla was on a single regular size tortilla not your typical "burrito" size flour tortilla usually used for a quesadilla. The burrito came on a burrito sized tortilla but the ratio of meat was not what I expected. Neither item is worth the $10 or $13 cost in my opinion. In addition, the Al Pastor meat was burnt and not freshly slice off the Trompo. But my biggest complaint was the loud laughter from all three employees who were working at the time. Their personal conversation took away from the experience of having lunch. I will not be coming back here again and would not recommend it to anyone. Cliente por primera vez de esta tienda de tacos. El burrito vino en una tortilla del tamaño de un burrito, pero la proporción de carne no era la que esperaba. En mi opinión, ninguno de los artículos vale el costo de 10 o 13 dólares. Además, la carne de Al Pastor se quemó y no se cortó recién del Trompo. Pero mi mayor queja fue la fuerte risa de los tres empleados que estaban trabajando en ese momento. Su conversación personal le quitó la experiencia de almorzar. No volveré aquí de nuevo y no se lo recomendaría a nadie.
Nice lunch atmosphere wasn't too crowded. The tacos were tasty and the service was great. The cooks were friendly and the hostess was welcoming
Place is run down, tons of smokey charcoal build up in the air. Told the taquero to give me a 2 meat burrito and he ended up giving this piece of work. It's supposed to come with salsa onion cilantro and avocado guacamole but no lie I tasted the guacamole until the 2nd to last bite and almost if any salsa. The meat was super dry and had tons of fat pieces. Not only that I came at the wrong time because two of the taqueros were arguing with each other which is pretty unprofessional too argue in front of customers but whatever I'm never coming back so just be warned. Ps the burrito is definitely not worth 14 dollars!
Believe it or not, you have to get out of your car and walk inside to the counter to order your food. This place is clean, their food is delicious and their service is served with a smile. I tried their asada and adobada. I had them both with all the fixings. They were tasty and the tortillas which are made on premises were soft! I'd probably be back again when in the area.
I had tacos from this place, and the meat looked and tasted like it was scraped from the bottom of the pan. It was dry, unappetizing, and nothing like what you'd expect from a decent taco shop. I called the restaurant to share my feedback, and the cashier bluntly told me she couldn't help. Absolutely no effort to make things right. This is by far the worst taco shop I've ever been to. The food was disappointing, and the customer service was just as bad. I won't be coming
It's been awhile & I gladly like to update my review here up to 4 stars! One of my fav taco shops in SD. At first I gave them a great review & last time not so great due to prices & portions. Well now over the years their prices are better than other taco shops & portions have gotten bigger. Tho they only have 3 tacos on the menu, Carne Asada, Birria, Adobada, they are good & they have one of the better Birria soup/broth in SD. Their carne asada is one of the best in SD, so juicy & soft I love it, their Birria taco is good too but I prefer their order of Birria or broth & their Adobada is ok just a bit too marinated for me. They also have burritos, tortas & Mullitas & I recommend the Carne Asada form in those because I believe they have one of the best Carne Asada meats in SD. The customer service is really good, cooks are cool & fast & the girls on the register are really nice & the place is always clean. And you know the best part, they have a dispensary/weed store next door so you can buy a joint & go smoke a joint in your car & then walk here & get a few tacos & Birria broth, now that's a perfect breakfast or lunch, tacos & weed go hand & hand baby :) Overall a good little hole in the wall taco shop if you don't want crazy long lines & good service & good tacos & Birria meat or broth this is your place. I even met the Baseball player Adrain Gonzalez here (you can see in my pics) & had tacos on the table next to him & talked baseball a bit & no I was not high, at that moment. Since we were shopping at Home Depot we had to swing by for a quick snack. Authentic street taco flavor from TJ. Most definitely a MUST try. The hubby had the burrito (smaller than average). I had 2 street tacos. Everything was so flavorful. My favorite taco spot ever!!! We found this spot about 11 years ago and can't get enough of it. We have since moved out of state but I often dream of these tacos Every time we visit SD this is always one of our first stops & usually come multiple times while we are in town. You go up and order and then eat & then pay when you leave at cashier. They have several meats and other options but I always stick with carne asada tacos. They make them fresh right when you order them. Over the years have of course increased but I don't mind & gladly will pay whatever the price is read more

I wanted it to be good and it was ok. Not bad just not bomb with so many good taco shops you need to stand out. The tortilla are handmade so you can taste the difference. The horchata and the dark salsa are the best things there. The birria was ok kind of dry and over cooked, the adobada was decent and the carne asada was cold sort of pre cooked and fatty. I will not return. The service was fast and the place is clean they have a decent menu just nothing was a standout and not worth it for me. The guacamole was good smooth and creamy like I like it but the carne needs to be hot and better quality, the adobado needs more flavor and the birria needs to be more tender and juicy. Sorry guys I gave y'all a shot but didn't hit the mark. Ok almost didn't make it home had to poop so bad! My stomach is upset! Can't stop going to the bathroom I'm actually on the toilet right now ... This is not good - not good at all- stomach hurts they need to wash their hands or make sure the meat is fresh it didn't taste fresh and now I think it's bad - like bad bad been going to the bathroom for over an hour now! read more

The Adobada...omfg... This! Lived in San Diego my entire life, how have I not had this mesquite seasoned deliciousness? Now, their carne asada is also on point, but the Adobada stole the show. Bought three tacos, and was through the Adobada and one of the carne asada before I remembered to take a pic. On top of the excellent food, everyone was super sweet and smiled when I tried to roll my rrr's. Will definitely be back! read more

My wife and I were there on August 30, 2023 and I'm just getting around to writing this because I saved the receipt to remind me. Food thumbs down. Employees disengaged. Cleanliness lacking. What a disappointment. Pardon me for not photographing the saddest, no love mulitas we've ever had. It's just sad that this place has run into the ground. We won't be back. read more

Great local taco shop in Chula Vista they still use charcoal grills to cook the carne asada and u can taste the difference ...that plus the birria cannot be beat...prices good for quality of food and service is quick ...recommend ! read more

I think I have had my very first bad carne asada burrito. This thing looks like it was made at home by some middle schooler. Hardly any flavor and the wrap of the burrito was crap. I did not see this coming at all. Had a mixed taco and that was pretty average as well in flavor. Something told me to not go to this place and I was right. Feels like a place you would go to in Ohio that thinks they know how Mexican food should taste like. BIG FAIL! read more

No, it's located in the building closer to CostCo, not Walmart. I thought the same thing, but if you're facing the building which looks vacant & empty, it's the next building to the east (left of) where AutoZone is.
