It's been awhile & I gladly like to update my review here up to 4 stars! One of my fav taco shops in SD. At first I gave them a great review & last time not so great due to prices & portions. Well now over the years their prices are better than other taco shops & portions have gotten bigger. Tho they only have 3 tacos on the menu, Carne Asada, Birria, Adobada, they are good & they have one of the better Birria soup/broth in SD. Their carne asada is one of the best in SD, so juicy & soft I love it, their Birria taco is good too but I prefer their order of Birria or broth & their Adobada is ok just a bit too marinated for me. They also have burritos, tortas & Mullitas & I recommend the Carne Asada form in those because I believe they have one of the best Carne Asada meats in SD. The customer service is really good, cooks are cool & fast & the girls on the register are really nice & the place is always clean. And you know the best part, they have a dispensary/weed store next door so you can buy a joint & go smoke a joint in your car & then walk here & get a few tacos & Birria broth, now that's a perfect breakfast or lunch, tacos & weed go hand & hand baby :) Overall a good little hole in the wall taco shop if you don't want crazy long lines & good service & good tacos & Birria meat or broth this is your place. I even met the Baseball player Adrain Gonzalez here (you can see in my pics) & had tacos on the table next to him & talked baseball a bit & no I was not high, at that moment. My favorite taco spot ever!!! We found this spot about 11 years ago and can't get enough of it. We have since moved out of state but I often dream of these tacos Every time we visit SD this is always one of our first stops & usually come multiple times while we are in town. You go up and order and then eat & then pay when you leave at cashier. They have several meats and other options but I always stick with carne asada tacos. I went to Tacos El Poblano really excited because I used to love this spot when I was younger. Unfortunately, my experience was really disappointing from start to finish. First, I ordered an adobada taco. The meat wasn't cooked properly on the trompo why ? :( then they threw it on the grill and ended up burning it. That completely defeats the point of even having a trompo if you're just going to burn the meat afterward. It had a bitter, burnt taste. Next, I got a carne asada taco, and it was completely overcooked and dry:(honestly, drier than the Mojave Desert. The tortilla was hard and didn't taste fresh at all. Nothing about the tacos tasted like the quality I remember. The customer service was just as disappointing. I stood in front of the carne asada guy for about 5 minutes before he even acknowledged me. What made that worse was that there were no other customers there t wasn't busy at all. The workers seemed more focused on talking and laughing with each other than paying attention to the food or the customers. I even think I saw what might've been the owner there, which makes this even more frustrating because this place used to be good. It feels like they're letting it go downhill. I'm giving this a one-star review, but I'm being honest when I say I actually want this place to get better. I'll give them one more chance in the future, but as of right now, this was a really bad experience. read more

It had been a while since we had Tacos El Poblano in Chula Vista. We tried the Al Pastor pork tacos, carne asada and Al Pastor pork quesadilla. The tacos & quesadilla had a generous amount of meat and guacamole. We rated the tacos and quesadilla 4/5 stars. The asada tacos were missing that smokey charcoal flavor and the Al Pastor meat could use more seasoning. I don't know if they changed their recipe, but they definitely tasted a bit different since the last time I had them. The tacos were still good. The taqueros were friendly and restaurant was clean. First time customer of this taco shop. Ordered a Al Pastor Burrito and an Al Pastor quesadilla. The first disappointment was the portion sizes. The quesadilla was on a single regular size tortilla not your typical "burrito" size flour tortilla usually used for a quesadilla. The burrito came on a burrito sized tortilla but the ratio of meat was not what I expected. Neither item is worth the $10 or $13 cost in my opinion. In addition, the Al Pastor meat was burnt and not freshly slice off the Trompo. But my biggest complaint was the loud laughter from all three employees who were working at the time. Their personal conversation took away from the experience of having lunch. I will not be coming back here again and would not recommend it to anyone. Cliente por primera vez de esta tienda de tacos. Carne Asada meat had a nice smokey flavor, very little fat or chewy pieces. Ordered a carne asada burrito, super good. Also ordered a adobada mulita. The trompa had super flavorful and marinated adobada. Enjoyed the mulita because of the salsa they used. Didn't have a sour cream based guacamole like I'm used to but it was on point. Bad service, get there and the the cashier no where in sight, I order 6 tacos the taquero look like he wasn't happy, go to sit down and all the tables where dirty, and went to order a drink and again no cashier, so I go to ask the taquero where do I get a drink, finally the cashier was there she was talking with her friends that's why she wasn't there, then the taquero gets out of his station to go and talk to the cashier and her friends and not making my tacos, oh and the music supper load, I guess if the owner is not there, the employees don't care, when the cat is away the mice will play. Place is run down, tons of smokey charcoal build up in the air. Told the taquero to give me a 2 meat burrito and he ended up giving this piece of work. It's supposed to come with salsa onion cilantro and avocado guacamole but no lie I tasted the guacamole until the 2nd to last bite and almost if any salsa. The meat was super dry and had tons of fat pieces. Not only that I came at the wrong time because two of the taqueros were arguing with each other which is pretty unprofessional too argue in front of customers but whatever I'm never coming back so just be warned. Food is great but price on board and when I went to checkout didn't add up. Had a burrito and screen said 14.35 but I got charged around 18$. Had no drink or added things. When I pointed that out she just added whatever to make it the same price on the tap machine. read more

Believe it or not, you have to get out of your car and walk inside to the counter to order your food. This place is clean, their food is delicious and their service is served with a smile. I tried their asada and adobada. I had them both with all the fixings. They were tasty and the tortillas which are made on premises were soft! I'd probably be back again when in the area. read more

I wanted it to be good and it was ok. Not bad just not bomb with so many good taco shops you need to stand out. The tortilla are handmade so you can taste the difference. The horchata and the dark salsa are the best things there. The birria was ok kind of dry and over cooked, the adobada was decent and the carne asada was cold sort of pre cooked and fatty. I will not return. The service was fast and the place is clean they have a decent menu just nothing was a standout and not worth it for me. The guacamole was good smooth and creamy like I like it but the carne needs to be hot and better quality, the adobado needs more flavor and the birria needs to be more tender and juicy. Sorry guys I gave y'all a shot but didn't hit the mark. Ok almost didn't make it home had to poop so bad! My stomach is upset! Can't stop going to the bathroom I'm actually on the toilet right now ... No complaints about the service. We were greeted as we walked in & the taqueros were friendly & ready to take our order. The food was hit or miss. Carne asada was flavorless & a bit dry. The pastor was just ok, again flavor was lacking. The two stars are for the consomé (Birria broth) which was perfect as usual. For years we've been coming here for our consomé fix & it never disappoints. Unfortunately the place is very dirty around the seating area, tables, chairs, the salsa bar & the bathroom area. There are trash cans smeared with food & overflowing with food waste all over the place. As much as I love their consomé, I won't be coming back for more, unless someone picks it up for me & I forget how nasty the restaurant looks. PLEASE clean up the place!! Have been coming to this place for years. However, bought some birria from them last week and it tasted like Fabuloso. It was disgusting. I thought I was crazy but then my husband tried it and said the same thing. We notified the business and they took accountability but in no way is it okay to wash your pots and pans with Fabuloso. This taqueria is honestly the best little gem of a taqueria in the east Chula Vista/bonita area! Never been over priced, easy menu and the main attraction are the delicious tacos in my opinion the birria is the best in the area. The place has never been updated but the cooks definitely keep it authentic to tj style taquerias. You pay after you've dined. The salsa bar is always fully stocked with 3 different types of salsas, fresh limon and rabanos! Not to mention the chiles sarandiados always ready is the salsa on top!! I have been there 3 times. Food is good. The big problem is the cashier. I do not speak Spanish and she evidently does not speak English. She overcharged me by one taco each time. The Adobada...omfg... This! Lived in San Diego my entire life, how have I not had this mesquite seasoned deliciousness? Now, their carne asada is also on point, but the Adobada stole the show. The last time I go the "Mixto Burrito", which was a combination of carne asada, pastor (marinated pork off the rotating spit), guacamole, onions, and salsa. Really good stuff. I think I have had my very first bad carne asada burrito. This thing looks like it was made at home by some middle schooler. Hardly any flavor and the wrap of the burrito was crap. I did not see this coming at all. Had a mixed taco and that was pretty average as well in flavor. Something told me to not go to this place and I was right. I've tried their carne asada in tacos, quesadillas and burritos and all of them tasted "great". Good salsa bar to go along with any menu item and consumé to compliment as well.
