I love the mid century modern decor - there's bar seating, sofa seating, and outdoor patio seating (igloos in the winter). Dim lighting, checkers/chess boards, and super friendly staff. You just find a seat and the severs will come go you or you can go up to the bar. Changing speciality cocktails BUT I love their espresso martini. I've ordered it before and it's bold dark flavor is so delicious In the summer it's the perfect place to overlook downtown. Came here with some girlfriends for a holiday gathering and have to say we were pretty unimpressed. This is one of the very few rooftop bars in Huntsville, located inside a hotel downtown. We walked into the hotel and were more or less shouted at to head upstairs for the bar, despite not really having a chance to even get our bearings. The directions weren't unappreciated per se but it wasn't a very welcoming start. I will grant them that the vibe is pretty pleasant and the whole first monkeys in space thing (hence Baker and Able) is an adorable theme. There are several cute touches/allusions to this space history, including flashy monkeys-in-the-jungle wallpaper and two statues on the side of the hotel better viewed in daylight. We headed outside and were able to claim a snow globe to seat ourselves at out of the wind (though drinks still needed to be cleared from the table). There are fireplaces if you can't get a globe. I took a look at the view and found it super underwhelming but given the relatively small stature of Huntsville's skyline I don't know if it's especially fair to knock them for that. One of my friends popped inside to ask if we needed to order at the bar or if someone would come to us and was informed of the latter. However, this someone took a pretty long time (despite it not being particularly busy -- like 9 PM on a Thursday) and upon arrival was just super low energy and not very helpful. I asked how sweet a drink I was interested in was and he said "sort of" and then provided like no follow up on other options or comparisons or anything. He did ask if we wanted to start a tab or just have the one drink and as we were winding down the night we chose the latter and opted to pay immediately, so that was appreciated. One friend got a Prosecco, while I got the Don't Panic (bourbon, vermouth, cinnamon apple puree) and another friend got the Live Long and Prosper (turmeric infused gin, lemon, ginger). The Prosecco was fine but the cocktails were not good. Mine tasted like straight bourbon (no hint of apple or cinnamon) and the turmeric one tasted like a spice jar. We all agreed the vibe felt like they were trying too hard to be pretentious and forgot to just make a decent drink. The sci-fi inspired names are fun but the taste did not deliver. Perhaps take it with a grain of salt as I'm hardly a cocktail connoisseur, but personally we didn't have a particularly impressive visit. Luckily, we still enjoyed each others' company. read more

So this space could be way more awesome than it is. The indoor seating area looks like a lobby or a place where you might read a newspaper. For a "roof top" bar, this could be much better. The drinks are priced at a premium, and they were good....but this place needs someone with a decorative sense to come in here and do this place a favor. The festive shirts don't match the upbeat music, and the lobby thing makes me feel confused. There's so much more to offer here with the right decorations. The vibe could be better. read more

We rented an 8 person igloo tonight. The table was wet and no one had planned for us to arrive(no utensils, plates, menus) . We ordered food and drinks and waited over an hour for our flatbread pizzas! We had to double check on our food bc they brought out each item to us every 10-15 minutes instead of all together so we could share the "shareable" appetizers! The waiter was very inattentive and extremely checked out on waiting on us. We were expected to spend over $100 or more and it was not even worth it! read more

This is an adorable rooftop bar located at the top of the Hilton at 106 Jefferson downtown. When you get off the elevator you'll notice the adorable monkey wallpaper. This place is named after the first monkeys who went to space. The bartenders even where a scientist lab coat. Adorable! We went shortly after they opened and were able to sit in one of their bubbles outside. I ordered the Spanish rose cocktail and we got an order of their popcorn. It was so perfect for a happy hour! Beautiful views from the roof. This place should not be skipped. They have quite a few heaters outside too! read more

Really nice ambiance, service is good, food is only okay but very overpriced for what it is. The trio pictured was $45, popcorn was $6. You're paying for the ambiance. Parking is $5 for valet plus a $1.60 service charge which is ok. The parking valet attendants are on the rude side though. read more

I can say it was about time Huntsville got a rooftop lounge. Granted, due to geographic limitations the city has fairly short buildings, so I can see why this easily became a novelty. Located on the top floor (7th) of the new 106 Jefferson hotel, Baker & Able is a beautiful bar and lounge that got its name from the first two primates that survived space flight, and with that in mind you can see the monkey and space theme from the moment you step off the elevator. The menu has different cocktail, wine, and beer options, and they recently added a list of tapas style foods. I had a brief chat with the manager and seems like they'll have more science being applied to new drinks down the road, which sounds quite exciting. The inside is beautiful, and the terrace is very spacious and open, with different types of seating, heat lamps, and chill house music playing in the background, nothing loud or obnoxious. They mentioned they'll be setting up plastic igloos to withstand the colder temperatures, which will be a nice touch. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood of a good drink and nice atmosphere. read more

Cozy little rooftop bar with great ambiance and seating options inside. I do wish they had heaters or fire pits outside for when it's just a touch chilly but you want to enjoy the rooftop views. Really enjoyed the drinks - they're the kind that some may consider expensive, but you can tell they're truly handcrafted cocktails where some time is spent to make them. Which, in turn, you can take some time to enjoy them and the company you're with. All staff members encountered were super attentive and kind. Great experience and look forward to returning when the weather is a little warmer. read more

This was our first visit to the Baker & Able rooftop bar. Named after the first monkeys in space, it's a very fitting name for the Rocket City. We had been looking forward to visiting and were sadly disappointed. The view of downtown from the patio was awesome! There are not many rooftop bars in Downtown Huntsville. This is truly the only reason it's getting 3 stars. I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you're looking for a high dollar basic drink with bad service and a view. It was not the best experience overall. From the moment we stepped into the hotel lobby to take the elevator up we were very put off. There were front desk staff members basically shouting at us that the rooftop bar is at capacity and don't bother going up... so we took their word for it. We were meeting friends so we decided to wait for people to come down before going up. Once several people came down we attempted again, just to be told the same thing almost like it was their way of deterring people from visiting. When I questioned, I was told "well you can try it." So we took the elevator up and we were immediately let in the bar without a problem. Once we entered, we noticed the bar was mostly empty and nowhere near capacity. FYI there is no drink menu to order drinks from. When we asked the bartender about specialty cocktails or for any recommendations, we got a few generic and easy to make recommendations like a "Manhattan" or "Whiskey Sour." Trying to make small talk, we asked how their night was going and we were told that they were all unhappy because some tip money went missing. We were a little caught off guard because this was not the response we were expecting but it definitely made sense because all the employees looked like they hated being there. We won't be back anytime soon. read more

Met up with a friend here and loved the atmosphere, the drinks, and the patio area! The workers were very kind and helpful, quite attentive to the customers even after we had our drinks.
