This will (almost) always be a picture-perfect beach. 15 years ago, my husband and I actually took our engagement photos here. About and month ago, I actually brought my son here because we visited the Legion of Honor nearby and he asked to go to the beach too. On the day we went, it was one of those perfectly sunny and blue-sky types of days that fell between days of storms. My son got some much-needed outdoor time. Unfortunately, someone poured something into the water (bubble bath most likely) that made the entire beach covered with bubbles. Hopefully it was a harmless substance, but it was still unfortunate. The sand also has a lot of stuff in it - twigs, etc. But the good thing about being 6 is that he moved on and had fun anyway, and for me, the view made up for it all. The only way this beach could be better is if there were bathroom facilities and somewhere where you can rinse off feet - if it's there, I'm not aware of it. On the flip side, as gorgeous as it is, this beach is somewhat out of the way, so there usually are not many people so you will never feel crowded here. read more

Beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge Took a break from our Valley heat which was going on for a week in triple digit record temps... Baker Beach was a nice relief as hubby and I strolled from one end to the other towards the Golden Gate Bridge. The beach is in the northwest of the city and is about half a mile long. It was my first time here. The northern section of Baker Beach is a nude beach! Really? well, we didn't go that far. What we saw were lots of beach fishing and rows of fishing poles pounded in the sand and fishing lines cast into the ocean... did not see any fish caught by any of the hopefuls though. I was told by one of the fishermen that they usually catch striper, jack smelt or a surf perch and even Dungeness crabs on a good day... I actually saw a crab on the shore and it let me take a photo of it :) Saw some large waves, undertow and rip currents form the mighty Pacific Ocean making the beach seem unsafe for swimming although we saw some kids playing on the shore and some making sand castles. We had views of the Golden Gate through some fog but as the day progressed the fog lifted and provided more gorgeous panoramic views of the bridge. Baker Beach is part of the Presidio, which was a military base. All in all it was a nice day as we checked out the shorelife along the beach and rocky shoreline. Parking can be a challenge but we got there early enough and was able to find a spot right away. There is also the Coastal Trail on the cliffside for hikers to enjoy. There is a picnic area complete with tables, grills, and restroom facilities in the cypress grove at the east end of the parking lot for the public to enjoy as well. Haunted? Visit this beach after sundown... rumor has it that Baker Beach has a ghostly woman who sings by the shoreline. Baker Beach is known for being "frequented by clothing-optional sunbathers," but I have never seen anyone less than fully dress. It is a small beach, and a welcome refuge for those in the neighborhood. I would not recommend it to out-of-towners in the City for a short vacation. Some will find its history worth a visit. Always a pleasure to be at an iconic location. Golden Gate Bridge is in the background and on Sundays doesn't get too crowded. Bathrooms are close and there are plenty of places to roam around to. If you love dogs this beach is for you. Lots of unleashed dogs come here. Most dogs are friendly, those that aren't usually are on leash. I come here every Sunday with my dogs to hang out for a few hours. You can't beat the views and the upkeep of this beach. read more

Beautiful. Clean. Secluded. Breathtaking views. Serendipity brought us all here seeing as how we were at Golden Gate Park but didn't stop by. I know that Kevin likes the beach, nature - just being outside to take it all in basically so he used his Yelp app to navigate us here. My sister and her friend was following us. It was my kiddo's 1st time at a beach. The weather was cold, windy but tolerable but what I was worried about was the kiddo because he hasn't been feeling well and my forgetful ass forgot his beanie at daycare. We dressed him in layers but still you could see him shivering... walking on the sand was definitely something new to him. He stood there looking confused and eventually fell face first into the sand (haha.. sorry but it was funny). He fell twice. After a few pictures taken, it was time to freshen up and go. Here's the breakdown: - 2 parking lots - restroom facility and portable potties - great place to marvel at the Golden Gate Bridge - great beach for a photo shoot - ceremonies (I think I saw a formal ceremony of some sort there) Do I want to get married on the beach? No, but having a photo shoot on the beach is something in my radar. I'd like to get married on a golf course or at this hotel in Palm Springs, CA. One can only dream. read more

4 Stars for a beach with an unbeatable view and surprises around every corner (some more pleasant than others!). I was lucky enough to have a local friend take me to Baker Beach recently. We took a Lyft ride, which was great because the parking was slim! As soon as you descend upon the beach you will see the view that so many have written about before on this page. On one side is Land's End and on the other is that famous Golden Gate Bridge. So, yeah. You ain't gonna find a better view. But the in between is pretty stunning as well! I went on an uncommonly warm day so there were tons of people (and their canine friends!). Even so we were able to spot Dolphins swimming nearby. We walked towards the sand stairs - which I skipped for fear of passing out from exhaustion on the fourth step... Though I did spot some brave and fit souls making the trek! Along the way I very suddenly realized it was a nude beach. That wasn't something that bothered me at all (yay for people feeling free and trying to make nudity less of a taboo!) but unfortunately there has to be one person who ruins it for everyone. Seeing a man pleasuring himself just a few feet away from the sunbathers was really not on my list of sights to see in SF! ~sigh~ All in all the beach is absolutely gorgeous and worth the visit! And no. This Floridian did not even attempt to enter that frigid water! read more

Beware! Naked men might be in beach! I've gone here a few times but I've never walked all the way to the end where the bridge is. Yesterday was such a lovely day to be in the city with my family. We arrived here and it was more packed than any other visits we ever had so looking for parking was a bit of work. Circled twice and got lucky with a parking spot right by the entrance. Set up our umbrella and towels and started our walk. So like I did before, naked men on beach! I thought this older man had lost his mind for walking around with his man hood shaking freely on the beach. I guess there's a spot here on Baker beach where you're allowed to be naked? Because I saw s second man just laying on his towel getting burned by the sun. Beautiful beach and I sure will come back again. My first time here was in 2014 for my 19th birthday. It was cold but I managed to get in the water anyway. I am a sucker for the water. The views are priceless. You get to see the golden gate bridge, the dogs, and people while laying on the beach. Its close to ocean and china beach as well. The parking can get tight here, but it's good because there aren't as many people on the beach! The parking is small compared to the long stretch of beach. Lots of trails leading to the golden gate bridge for those interested in walking it. I came to visit again just last week 7/25 and I didn't have any luck parking. Even with COVID, I feel more and more people are going outdoors. I made a quick U and left, no wasting any more time. The drive itself was nice enough for me. The beach this time around was just a plus. read more

Great spot to visit during the week. Excellent location for bird watching, saw a Red-tailed Hawk capture and eat its prey while walking along the trail above the beach. Can get pretty cold and windy. Public wash-rooms are well-looked after here. Incredibly overpopulated on the weekends, parking is near impossible then. read more

I like the vibe of Baker Beach, it's a little beat, some hippies, some parents, unpretentious singles sunbathing, a lot of folks taking their dogs for a run. Who cares that part of it is a nude beach? Baker Beach is uniquely San Francisco for the vibe and the views. Try walkin' around nude on a beach elsewhere and you'll get arrested but not in SF. Plenty of parking and known only to the locals....not much tourists here. Just visited and was blown away by the view. I'm a beach kind of guy, growing up in Australia! I was disappointed when I was moved to San Francisco at an earlier age. Ocean beach - nahhhh Baker beach - aight we talking... Baker beach, is usually slightly less crowded that ocean beach (the other main beach in sf). However, it can get popular too. It has an amazing view of the golden gate bridge and it has side picnic areas too with a restroom. It's a great place to get your vitamin D in and just catch up with friends and fam. Baker Beach is not as large as Ocean Beach, however the view is much better. You get a gorgeous view of the Golden Gate Bridge, plus it is much less crowded. The view is gorgeous whether you come during the day, or at night. There is a small parking lot at this beach. It is fairly easy to snag a spot; maybe a 5-10min wait when it gets crowded. This is my go-to spot whenever I'm in the mood for a stroll on the beach! I've heard this is a nude beach, but haven't seen this for myself. A good way to view the bridge. I found this place through Maps. I figured, it wouldn't make sense to go near the tourist trap. This place is tranquil. I love nothing more than when my family decides to just get in the car and drive to a random beach to hang out. My grandma was visiting from Arizona and she wanted to go to the beach. So that's what we did. I let my uncle drive and pick the beach. He chose Baker Beach. This was my first visit. Id seen so many photos of the beach with happy couples and families frolicking. It was so nice to come and finally see for myself. We brought the kids and the grandmas and the aunts and uncles. We ran we played, we picked driftwood and rocks. It was windy and cold but that didn't stop a naked guy from running past us. My sister and I saw a whale way out near the Golden Gate blow a blast of mist into the air. That was awesome! We spent all day here and it was great. I want to come back again and again. Bring the family, bring some snacks and just enjoy the beauty that is the Bay Area. read more

As beaches go this one is superb. I know there are many beaches that have stunning scenery but really, can any top the Golden Gate bridge? There are maybe a handful of days when it is really warm here, which means that you will rarely find overcrowding. In fact it is easy to find a parking space on weekdays. The only minus are the lack of food vendors (why are there no food trucks?) and the bathroom facilities which leave much to be desired in terms of cleanliness. Having grown up walking distance from here this will always be on my top 10 list. read more

We got soo lucky with the weather today in SF! (June 12, 2010) It was super hot about 80 degrees and the heat felt so good on my skin. Me and my girlfriends got lucky with parking and was able to swoop when someone was leaving in the parking lot but it looks like you can park along the road leading up to the beach. I saw bikes locked up to the posts by the beginning of the road so that was cool. There are also port-a-potties so you don't just go in the water as well. Who's to stop anyone though. We were there for almost 4 hours and I had such a good time people watching and just relaxing. It seems like a beach for the younger crowd because I was seeing a lot of people openly drink and some people had some wine and cheese! I did hear that there is a nudie area closer to the Golden Gate Bridge side and I would be down for that! No tan lines! I opted to hang out in the populated area though. Even though it was hot the water was still cold but it felt nice. This is a dog friendly beach where dogs were off their leashes and just in the water having a good time. Oh and I did need to mention how beautiful the background is with Golden Gate Bridge. The sand was oh so hot though! The sand is a darker color which was interesting. Oh random we saw some dude with his guitar serenading to his chick. lol random. This beach is nice for relaxing and just laying out. Didn't see anyone do any water activities really and there is no spot for volleyball or anything. I really liked how clean it was. SF beach where its hot! So not normal! read more

What a lovely drive you have to take to get to Baker Beach. I think enjoyed the drive just as much as the beach... lots of tress and an amazing view of the ocean. Parking is free, the beach isn't overly crowded and dogs can run freely! It was easy to get to and very clean, there are stairs to climb, a forest to hike through and of course the beautiful back drop of the Golden Gate Bridge to enjoy. I read reviews about the nudity but (luckily) didn't see anyone airing out their business on the day that I was there. Going on a weekday was a good choice, I'm sure its much busier on the weekends... and much more naked. read more

A pretty lovely little park, if I do say so myself. I get to SF for a conference and the gods must be smiling on me, because it's actually warm and sunny. I immediately know I want to get near the water and this place is suggested to me by friends. I take a Lyft to the beach and immediately know I made the right decision. It's awfully nice, especially for being right off a city. Lots of signs to stay out of the water for fear of undercurrents, but I wasn't trying to wade around anyhow. I was perfectly content to sit on a log and people watch, plus the few random dogs who did NOT get the "stay out of the water" memo. It was awfully cute. Of course, the view of Golden Gate Bridge is second to none. Great photo ops, and TONS of people trying to get them. Wait your turn, I suppose. Then I took the little hike over to the bridge, which included more stairs than I had imagined. I worked up a sweat but nothing anybody of reasonable health couldn't handle. It'd be cool to see some more accessible facilities, but maybe I just missed them? If I lived here I would love to come back and stay for an afternoon. It's really beautiful and tranquil. read more

It's always good to get another view of the golden gate bridge. This beach provides that view and it's not busy. The rocks are also a great photo spot as well. It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get a good tourist pic. There are plenty of nude people here as well, but everyone tends to mind their own business and they're off doing their own thing. The water is cold so be aware. The sounds of the waves is very therapeutic and we just enjoyed our stay there for a little bit before heading out and running errands. The sand ladder is also located nearby and that provides another beach view for those who want to enjoy what this beach has to offer. read more

Reviewer # 618 Its the beach, under the Golden Gate Bridge, how could it not be a 5 in and of itself! There is ample parking here, with clean bathrooms. No wheelchair friendly to get to the beach. From my understanding, there is a nude beach included here if you keep walking toward the Golden Gate bridge, but I haven't seen anything of the sort. There are breathtaking views here. The iconic Golden Gate in the background, is a must stop for a great photo op. read more
