I visited this park on Saturday as my friend planned a surprise proposal to take place in front of the fountain. It was the perfect backdrop for such a special moment. I saw a few other groups arrive for pictures in the park - a wedding party and a quinceañera court. There was also a playground near where a few kids/families played. There was a bathroom area, but they were locked. It would have been nice to be able to use the facilities, especially since I didn't see any other options around. read more

Baker Park has so much to offer. It is a must-go if you are in the Downtown Frederick area. They tend to have a lot of events in the summer, including the firework show on the Fourth of July and their Summer Concert Series at their outdoor stage. They also have tennis courts, softball and baseball fields, a swimming pool that is open to the public, and playgrounds. It is also dog-friendly with a dog park near. Baker Park is like the crown jewel in the diadem that is Downtown Frederick. The park has been under extensive renovations in its recent history and is quite large. According to the website its a "58 acre linear park running through the heart of downtown Frederick." When I think of Baker Park, I think of the bell tower or Carillon. I recently learnt this, but the Carillon is Maryland's largest musical instrument #ScoreOneForFrederick. The tower holds 49 bells which are played by a keyboard type mechanism at the bottom of the obelisk. It is played by a master Carillonneur John Wittman on the weekends. But also you can hear it's automated tolling on the hour when you're at the park any day of the week. The park was named after Joseph T Baker who was a local philanthropist and also the person who purchased the land for the park to built on in the 1920s. There is an organization of volunteers called the Friends Of Baker Park which helps to maintain the park and restore and renovate portions of it. All in all, it's a must see if you're headed to downtown Frederick. I could write endless words about Baker Park, but it is nothing compared to seeing it and experiencing it for yourself. That is the only thing that will do it justice. Walking along Carroll Creek has always been a delight, especially in the spring when the lily pads are out and the creek is teeming with ducks and other wildlife. It definitely makes you appreciate parks in general and how much they add to a city when they're well maintained and special. I think it's 100 percent aided in making Downtown Frederick a national destination to visit. read more

If you follow Carroll Creek Park west, you'll hit a large urban park called Baker Park. At first glance, it seems small, but it extends north hitting the oldest building still standing in Frederick (the Schifferstadt Architectural Museum). The park itself offers a lot from several playgrounds, a bell tower that chimes throughout the day, a bandshell, a lake, picnic tables, a pool, courts. It pretty much has anything you need to enjoy the outdoors. Our toddler loved the playground right next to the Frederick Armory. It has swings, several slides and climbing areas. read more

A friend and I explored Baker Park during a visit to Frederick a few weeks ago, and I really enjoyed strolling through the park and catching up. The park isn't huge, but it's large enough for a decent length walk on a pretty day! It's also really pretty! This large, very spacious park is located in downtown Frederick with lots of green space. I ran a 5k that started and ended at the park and it was lovely. There's water and little bridges and plenty of space to picnic to get away from downtown. read more

Frederick is a cool town about an hour west of Baltimore. We visited recently for an all too brief stay (24 hours). Start at the Visitor's Center at 151 S. East Street. Staff there are very helpful. Get a brochure with map and go on a walking tour around town. Baker Park is number 8 (of 25 stops) on the walking tour. It is on the west side of town and is 44 acres in size. The Joseph Dill Baker carillon was erected in 1941 to honor the man who gave the land to create this park. The 70 foot high tower holds 49 bells that ring automatically every 15 minutes. There are recitals by carilloners on Sundays. There are lots of other things to do in the park: sports, concerts in bandshell, or simply stroll. read more

The green space adjacent to downtown Frederick offers a pretty-if artificial-waterway, a variety of sporting facilities, and plenty of places to sit and chill. Facilities are limited, and it's not a good place to look for a bathroom or water, which is a pain. It is a good area to park (2 hours on most of the neighboring streets) rather than drive on crowded Market Street and pay for a garage. It's also a good place to stop and eat. read more

This park runs parallel to Carroll Creek with a walking trail beside the creek. At the start of the park is a small reservoir with waterfalls, careful there's a sharp drown in the trail. There's a bell tower in the center of the park that rings. Further back the creek becomes more desolate and overgrown. There's a small suspended bridge that provides great views of the creek. The park has your usual offerings such as a playground and picnic pavilions. There was pool that didn't appear to be open despite being July. Maybe because of the thunderstorm that came through. read more

Frederick is an old town. It is setup like an old town. Before cars, malls, highways, Olive Garden, track housing, 1 hour commutes, shock jocks, gated communities and the idea of buying a big ass cookie cutter house that you don't have time to live in and you have to pay people to clean and mow your lawn and watch your kids..... And so now Frederick is surrounded by all the crap I just listed. But there still exists Market street- a quaint commercial artery and street after street of nice row houses. And within walking distance, a perfect little urban park for everyone to enjoy. A meeting place for the citizens of Frederick and a place to celebrate and relax. There are weeping willow trees, a quiet creek, a clock tower, playgrounds, a public pool, softball fields, band shell etc etc. So drive to Frederick, park your god-forsaken car, turn off your cell phone, go for a walk around Baker Park and remind yourself of how simple life can still be. read more

There is plenty to do in Baker Park. As a resident of Frederick my entire life, I frequent this location. It has great pathways for jogging and walking, there is a swimming pool not far from the park, there are plenty of tennis courts, and it is a short walk from downtown Fredrick nightlife. I went to this park a lot as a child. It has changed some but still feels like the same old comfortable strolling zone.

I'm going to keep this review short and simple. I love Baker Park and love looking at and hearing the iconic "Bell Tower." You would think that such a beautiful park located in Historic Frederick would have more than two toilets (portable toilets) and they would be clean! I love spending time at Baker Park! It's such a lovely park with two play areas, a dog park, seasonal pool, apatheater, a lovey stream flowing from the pond, and plenty of space to walk, play, or run at. Baker Park is walking distance from any resturants, bars, and shops in downtown. You could walk through the city or walk along side of Carol Creek into one area of downtown. There are many events that happen at this park. I know of a few during summer time including weekly concerts, 4th of July foreworks, Dog Days, and many more. I really dislike large crowds so I avoid coming during these events. Baker Park is always my go-to for a lovey afternoon. It's a wonderful place to spend time. read more

This place is ok. I've been to better parks. It was on the smaller side, and the landscape wasn't all that impressive. It seemed cute and quaint until I dropped my phone and someone picked it up and made off with it within 20 minutes without even asking anyone if it was theirs and ignoring the calls when we tried to locate it. I was surprised as the people seemed a little nicer out here than back close to Baltimore, but that just goes to show that there are shitty people everywhere. Yeah, Baker Park is sweet. Especially the swinging bridge and how it now connects with the hopefully-soon-to-be-finished Carroll Creek walk. Stumbled upon this park while exploring downtown Frederick and fell in love. As a family with 2 small children, and as avid runners, it was perfect for us. Baker Park is wonderful and makes me proud to live in downtown Frederick. The area by the bell tower and the armory is great for playing soccer, frisbee, or kickball with a group of friends. There are many large trees to sit under with a blanket for a picnic or to play music with friends. The area of the park near the pool offers more areas for soccer, tennis, and barbecuing. Culler Lake is a great spot to relax and watch all of the ducks (don't feed them bread, though! people always seem to forget this!). The path all along these areas of Baker Park is excellent for biking, jogging, or taking a leisurely walk. read more

Any time some one says that people from different backgrounds can't get along, I think of Baker Park. Rich people, poor people, Blacks, Whites, Asians, Latinos and others all chill out in Baker Park. The swiffs dip into the water. People play frisbee with their dogs. Toddlers chase ducks. The carillion bells ring out the hours. Maybe there's free Shakespeare on the little stage. You can easily ride a bicycle from Rosemont to the Delaplaine Center for the Arts. Sometimes bikers (on motorcycles - hey, did you know Frederick is a crossroads for biker gangs?) buzz through and take a whizz in the bushes by the dog park. Whatever. It's still my favorite park. I first came to Baker Park in 1985 and grew up in Frederick where I frequented this park as a child, teenager & now Adult/parent. The long 2 mile walk/run is a great way to get fresh air in the small city. The swimming pool is nice during the summer. The band shell is great for free summer entertainment. MULTIPLE playgrounds offer variety for kids of all ages. Tennis Courts are in great condition. The creek is fun for fishing. They also have a fishing spot for the blind or disabled. Culler Lake is in the process of revitalization through private neighborhood group called Friends of Baker Park. There are small diamonds for kids. At the end of the park is Schifferstadt, a early German home which is a museum and hosts events. There is also a Recreation Center on the corner of Bentz & W 2nd St. And don't forget the Memorial Park across the street! Many events are hosted in the park throughout the year. And it is a wonderful place to enjoy family & friends. The Carillon is heard all over Frederick as it chimes. A wonderful city park! read more
