Literally beside Ossington Station, you can smell the bakery even if you're outside. My friends and I came here since we were in the area and was looking for something sweet. I opted for ice cream, you can test certain flavors (like at any other ice cream place). I got the pink lemonade and green tea and I really enjoyed both flavors as they were strong enough I could taste the two which I like. My friends who ordered different flavors also agreed with me that the flavors I chose was really good. Service was great, I wanted green tea ice cream but I assumed that they didn't have any there so she had to run to the back to get some. I am so impressed with Bakerbots! I came here after my birthday dinner on Wednesday to have a "light" dessert. The place is pretty small, even smaller than Bang Bang's but stepping into the store felt super coziness and welcoming. An EXTENSIVE menu of icecream and drinks that would please any one. I got the Half Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich - Oatmeal Cookie: DELICIOUS. So great to chew on and not overly sweet. This will definitely be my go to. - London Fog Ice cream: This was really refreshing, tasted 100% like the tea (but didn't really go with the cookie) - Milk & Cookeis Ice cream: omg, reminiscent of when I used to crush chocolate cookies into my milk. The ice cream was 'creamy' (haha) and smooth. 100% better than any store bought boox. For ~$5 this is a really good treat that won't break your bank. read more

I never even knew how sensitive my teeth were until I bit into one of their monster serving of an ice cream sandwich! It had me switching toothpastes and all in favour to a heck of a better chewing experience when I return because what better way to ruin an experience than agonizing nerves interrupting a perfectly good date with your sweet tooth. We had the chance to visit this place more than once and although I'm always tempted to just order a cone from anywhere else in Toronto where the line up is not as crazy during the summer, we always find ourselves back again for the wait to an awesome dessert. When I'm craving me some ice cream, Bakerbots is a go to. I shared a whole cookie ice cream sandwich with my fiancé and we couldn't finish it. We had the everything cookie with chocolate peanut butter ice cream. It was one of the best chocolate peanut butter ice creams I've ever had. There is always a lineup out the door, so be prepared to wait 10-20 minutes for your dessert! It's a tiny store and not really meant for sit down. But it's a great stop on a walking date! They have other baked goods there if you don't want ice cream. I don't love their cookies on their own but they're great for a sandwich. If you have dietary restrictions they can accommodate (GF options available). Staff are very friendly and it's always pleasant to stop at Bakerbots. 4 stars because I have a hard time spending over $8 on an ice cream sandwich! read more

Just need to pick wisely before adding them into the cookies to prevent a sugar coma, The sister store to the crazily popular Bang Bang Ice Cream, Bakerbots was pretty popular as well when we were visiting the Bloorcourt store. They don't serve as much flavours of Bang Bang but they definitely shared many of the popular ones including the favourite ice cream cookies. Sometimes you arrive in a good time and only a few minutes wait.. worse case is 7 minutes or so. Not that you can time how the subway runs but it's obvious when a subway made its stop next door! The pile of people is like a huge herd coming in. This looks much bigger than the Bang Bang store till you realize that most of the store is actually for the staff only and their baking/ice cream area. There really isnt any seating in the store at all. Just a single table with one or two chairs. There are a lot of benches outside so you can relax in the summer sun while enjoying your ice cream. It was busy when I was here but they do have at least 3 people here working. Similar to Bang Bang, they're constantly moving as quickly as they can through the line. I found their service to be very friendly and allowing me to try a few flavours before deciding on their SJCB Espresso and Matcha flavour. One thing that I noticed that on a Saturday mid evening, there wasn't as many baked goods here. They had a lot of the cookies for the ice cream cookie sandwiches but they only have a few tarts each and maybe 1/4 of one cake available. The old yelp pictures shows a lot more options. They did have a few of their large cinnamon rolls available. Cap'n Peanut Cookie - I've had PB cookies before but this was a cool twist here it was peanut brittle so it had shards of caramel in it. Awesome cookie as it was tender and very PB. If you want to use this as part of an ice cream sandwich, I'd recommend a flavour that isn't very sweet as this cookie is already pretty sweet. 4/5 Burnt Toffee - This is creamy and not icy. I tried to find the burnt toffee flavour and it was more of a mild brown sugar. It's a moderate to higher sweetness. I just would have expected a deeper caramel flavour instead of a sugary one. 3.5/5 PB n Chocolate - Another creamy ice cream and the chocolate is more prominent. The PB is milder and didn't show up as much imo. Still a good ice cream that could be paired up with a cookie. 3.5/5 SJCB (Sam James Coffee Bar) Espresso - A very strong coffee espresso flavour that is bold and bright. I liked this one... interesting thing is that they include tiny coffee grinds in this. I'm not sure I like that touch but the flavour is quite nice. 4/5 Matcha - This is one of the less sweet ice creams that has a better balance of the bitter matcha and sweet ice cream base. It wasn't ice but very nice and smooth. I liked the balance and would be a nice addition to a cookie. 4/5 Pecan Butter Tart - I've developed a fondness for these Canadian iconic baked goods... sugar and butter overload in a flakey crust, what's wrong with not blinking from the sugar high. So these tarts are a bit different... they're not filled to the point where the interior caramelizes on the crust, the crust is more of a soft doughy shortbread instead of a flakey crust, and the the interior wasn't gooey. It reminded me more of a really thick corn syrup. I wasn't feeling this one as I found it to be too soft, doughy, and not very flavourful. 3/5 Blueberry Custard Tart - Its the same tart dough found in the butter tarts... very soft and doughy. It fits better with the custard tart but neither the custard or the tart shell had a particular flavour. I was hoping custard have at least some real vanilla bean seeds or something other than mild sweetness. Blueberries were a bit sour. 3/5 Overall, it's a solid spot to get some good ice cream with some really good cookies. It's a lot better than waiting 40+ minutes at Bang Bang and I would say that the service here is friendlier as well. read more

First time coming here and saw reviews and pictures on Yelp so I decided to come and check it out. The shop is a lot smaller than expected but they have benches outside for you to sit and enjoy your ice cream and treats. They have a wide variety of baked goods and ice cream flavours. They also have two vegan sorbet flavours. I tried the London Fog and Matcha ice cream on a sugar cone. The London fog flavour surprisingly taste exactly like a London fog! The matcha was great too. Not a lot of places have matcha ice cream that actually has a strong matcha taste but this one does and I love it because I love a strong matcha flavour. Concept of ice cream sandwiches are awesome. Making it, however, may be a bit hard. It's near Korea town in a small walk in store. There's one table with a seating for 2 inside and outside benches for people to eat. I went with a group of 4 and it took a long time for us to get our ice cream sandwiches, to the point that ice cream was melting for us to enjoy it really as a sandwich. They do offer various flavors and I think the cookies are really the showcases. I do want to give props though. They do hand make your ice cream sandwiches on the spot, so I know a lot of work goes into it, but something just seems to be missing. read more

What keeps me from going back to Bakerbots is the woman who owns the place. I don't feel welcomed when i go into her shop. It feels like i am intruding on her space and taking up her time. I don't expect anything unreasonable; it would be nice to be greeted with a friendly 'hello!' and a quick low-down on what just came out of the oven and what not. Last weekend my friends and I walked from The Starving Artist for some bread pudding. When we finally got there we were so relieved that they had the bread pudding! So we each ordered a piece. I like the ice-cream cookie sandwiches here (and the awesome flavours they carry), but I actually come here more for the cakes and baked goods! There's usually not a huge selection by the time I go (in the evenings), but I am a big fan of their birthday cake. Most recently tried their carrot cake and loved that too! I'm so glad they're open fairly late, especially when a lot of bakeries and dessert places close early. Not sure if I would order drinks from them regularly though. It is a good thing I live in the Burbs, because living even remotely within commuting distance of this place is dangerous. Very dangerous. I came across Bakerbots after a frantic search online looking for Cool Haus-esque Ice Cream Sandwiches in Toronto. The images I came across totally fit the bill, and after a late night session of staring at Ice Cream Sandwiches on my screen that I could not eat immediately, I decided to make the trek out. Their space is cute, with only one table to accommodate patrons during the cooler months. During the summer they place benches outside the shop so that the masses have a place to sit and indulge. Either way, eating one of these bad boys is a fast and furious business, so I don't mind having to stand or sit on a ledge to fulfill my ice cream dreams. Impressively, all of their Ice Creams and Cookies are made in-house. I believe they used to source from Ed's Real Scoop, but this hasn't been the case for quite some time. There's something incredibly satisfying in knowing that someone took the care to churn batches of homemade ice cream for the sole purpose of stuffing an Ice Cream Sandwich. So now, the good part! I can't even begin to count on my fingers how many times I've visited this place. I'm proud to say that I've had almost all their cookies, and most of their Ice Cream flavours, and have never once left disappointed. The Cookies strike the perfect balance between chewy and crispy. Out of all the flavours, I tend to gravitate towards the Everything Cookie, a combination of Chocolate Chips, Peanut Putter, and Toffee Chips (there might be more stuff in it, I just can't remember at this precise moment ). WOW. Five big stars for the Earl Grey ice cream alone. It was phenomenal. I wish I could buy a whole tub of it to bring home - but then again, I have zero self-control and would probably finish it all in a sitting, which would not be good. The slight bitterness of the cocoa went beautifully with the sweetness although honestly I could do without the salt sprinkled on top. I'm not into the whole mixing salt with sweet flavours trend. But I liked this cookie. *Gingerbread cookie was my favourite. It was so delicious! It was gingery and spicy but not too much. It was just spicy enough to leave a happy warmth in my mouth. The sweetness was just right. The slightly bready tenderness was tasty. This was a very, very good cookie. I brought those cookies home with me but I also got two scoops of ice cream - fresh mint and Earl Grey. I thought the fresh mint might be plain mint ice cream, which I thought would be unique and interesting but alas, it had butter chocolate pieces in it that stuck to my teeth and refused to melt. However, the ice cream itself was kind of soupy and half melted. It wasn't minty enough either. I'm not a fan of the fresh mint. But that Earl Grey? MAN. I'd venture out there just for it. It wasn't too sweet, it had a nice, strong but not overwhelming tea flavour. It was creamy and sweet, just like I like my tea. I really loved how bold the tea leafy was. It was fantastic. We came here on a chilly new years eve where they were open until 7pm (thanks for being open!) and ordered their popular ice cream sandwich and cheesecake. We wanted to try their regular cakes and cupcakes but they were all sold out and was told it would take weeks to get one. I had a fairly comparable ice cream experience here compared to bang bang. We got the London fog ice cream sandwich with the everything cookie and the rococoa cookie and it was amazing. The ice cream was creamy with just the perfect hint of the earl gray. It's amazing ice cream period. I loved the everything cookie, I can't describe it but it was the perfect balance of everything you would want in a cookie. The nuttiness of the peanut butter with the chocolate then the saltiness of some other stuff. So good! I wasn't the biggest fan of the cheesecake (or cheesecake in general). It was a tad too sweet for me but I have no doubt if you like cheese cakes then you would absolutely love these. It was light, fluffy and I liked the hint of citrus. I came here after a completely horrendous experience at nearby bang bang (where useless staff get paid to make you wait an hour), and the difference was night and day. Bakerbots has a great selection, friendly staff and an accommodating storefront that has enough seating for about 20 people. Between tarts, cupcakes, cookies, pies, cakes and ice cream there's something for everyone. Service was super quick, even with a few people ahead of me I was in and out in less than 4 minutes. This is exactly how a QSR style creamery/bakery is supposed to be run, with decent and more importantly competent people. They do run out of stock on some items in the late afternoons/evenings, but they're open late so you can easily find something to substitute. read more

I could probably make these cookies at home. This is not really a shop to come and sit in. There is one small table with a few chairs around it but even that takes up most of the shop's space. We made the trek from Thornhill to Bakerbots after seeing someone's Facebook post on the top 10 ice cream joints in Toronto which then led me to the top 10 ice cream sandwich joints in Toronto. I had London Fog ice cream (earl grey) sandwiched between a ginger cookie, my husband had cinnamon toast ice cream sandwiched between a peanut butter cookie and my friend had vanilla sandwiched between birthday cake cookie. All three were scrumptious but the vanilla ice cream was pretty plain vanilla compared to the other two flavours. All three of us got half a sandwich and thought it was just perfect. There are 2 scoops of ice cream for half an ice cream sandwich so I saw people getting 2 different flavours of ice cream per half a sandwich. My wife had chocolate and raspberry gelato and my friend had an ice cream cone with banana red pudding ice cream. They all were great. I also had a cappuccino and although I'm not a coffee specialist both the women with me assured me it was very good. The only critique I have of the place is that it does not have enough seating. There is only one table inside (we got it) and benches outside. On a nice day it's not bad, but even then you can't sit around and talk easily. Conveniently next to the Ossington Station exit is a small dessert/ pastry shop that you have to give a try. They have a variety of the ice cream listed and flavors were spot on. So if it says espresso be prepared to taste iced creamed espresso with small espresso bits. Totaro is actually Ube flavor Ice cream with bits of that delicious purple yam. They even have PB Jelly. You have the option to get this on a cone, cup or your own choice of cookie. They also have other non-cold dessert pastries as well as a selection of tea / coffee. The place is tiny though, inside the shop seats a table of 2. And they have benches for a somewhat "patio" seating during summer. I heard the line up could get really crazy at times, we were lucky we didn't get to do that on our visit. Hopefully will get to visit again to try the other delectable on the menu. read more

Both were so good! I must say that the ice cream portions were slightly bigger than Bang Bang's too! The first time I went to this place. I was fairly impressed with their ice cream sandwiches. Yes they are organic and local fare and this was wonderful, as I love to support these kinds of establishments; but, I was expecting it to be a whole sandwich; not one cookie, halfed and then stuffed with ice cream. "Go big or go home" is a saying that often governs my life. So I was expecting a damn ice cream sandwich - two cookies, smashed together with ice cream. That is how it is done, no contest. Okay, so it was tremendously tasty mouthfuls but I'd do things differently if I was in charge. I understand that there is of course a cost factor as well. I went in again today... the tea I had, Bangkok Green was a nice change up, from my usual green tea lattes. They have noodles as stir sticks. the friend I was with said, "I wonder what the gluten free people will think of that?"- She has a point, I thought. I had an everything cookie, which was kinda bland. I am used to a firework show of flavours in my mouth, and this cookie failed to deliver. I was looking for something more and ended up getting a gluten free cookie. This one was great, chocolate chunks, oats and other gud ingredients, made for an enjoyable treat. Sure, it wasn't an explosion in my mouth, but it was good. Something I'd definitely try again. The service, ughhh. It was okay. Probably ranking in at a 2/5. Sorry, I'm tough! The ambiance was rather nice. They are a tiny shoppe, but there is a lot of warmth coming out of it. Bakerbots Baking has a really interesting concept and a great decor. The menu is very interesting and the cookies look delicious. I tried the burnt toffee and vanilla bean ice creams. They were good but not great, and I found both flavours to be a little bland and lacking in flavour if I'm honest. The portions are very generous, however. I ordered the 'double' cup ($5.25) and it was piles high with ice cream so no complaints there. Overall I found it ok but not amazing. It's cash only here, but there is an ATM inside. read more

Bakerbots has come a long way since it first opened its doors last year. They are now open most days of the week starting at 4pm and have hired extra staff to help work the counter in the evening allowing the real baking bots go home and get some rest. They now offer a vegan Callebaut chocolate chip cookie that is a coconuty, apple saucey delight and two types of vegan ice-cream, including a dairy-free chocolate! Hallelujah! It's Gelato Fresco, so it's quality stuff. Get yourself a half sandwich (they do that) with half raspberry, half chocolate dairy-free ice-creams and you'll be in sugar heaven! This also opens up a whole new vegan possibility - the affogato or "drowned' in italian - chocolate sorbet with an espresso shot poured over it. Yum yum yum!
