But there's nothing negative to report! This place has helped me out with everything from minor (and cheap) concerns to body damage and engine issues. They always give me a fair estimate (I've shopped around) and the work is always done surprisingly quickly. The past two times they even threw in some work without charging me (like a tire rotation or free diagnostic for a check engine light). And they were great at dealing with my insurance company and helping things to move smoothly and quickly after an accident. It's got that family business atmosphere, and you always interact with the same people, which helps with the trust-building. Even my uhaul rental experience was overly positive! There's the cutest little chihuaha hanging around, too. I highly recommend Rich's for any mechanic work or uhaul rental. Buyer Beware Tire Troubles: Mavis Tire Fails to Deliver on Safety Promise Let me share a wild ride of frustration and disappointment I recently experienced at Mavis Discount Tire . It all started on a regular day when I was in the area for a medical visit and found out our CRV needed four new tires. It seemed like a routine fix, but little did I know, it would turn into a nightmare. During a late night trip to Albany Medical Center early last week (around 900 miles with the new tires) we heard a loud banging sound while driving. To our horror, we discovered that the lug nuts on the front driver's side tire were loose and so we tightened them back on and proceeded with caution. We also discovered that all 4 tires were significantly low so we filled them to their required amount. . We ended up having to abandon the car in Canajoharie the next day when rechecking the tire on the way home and discovering it had been pushed off again resulting in 3 missing lugs. That's a dangerous situation that needed immediate attention. We contacted Mavis Tire right away for help. They requested the car be towed to their Ballston Spa location. They asked us if we had a preference of a tow company and we did and they explained that they would take care of him when he got there. They never paid Flanny as promised and from that point on, we were lied to again and again. They told Flanny to call for payment but never took the call. They told us that Flanny never came to see them regarding payment but somehow they had the invoice and he didnt take their payment method either way so we would need to get it from corporate. They told us at corporate that the manager doesnt have the authority to write a check over $300 and our bill was $320 and that was why he wasn't paid. They told us Friday morning that they ordered a rim and it will be here Monday. But here's where things took an even more frustrating turn. They proceeded to say we would be responsible. We reached out to the general manager who interrogated us during the call and then called us back after 6 pm on Friday to tell us that HE investigated and because it has over 900 miles and ran fine for the first 3 weeks we had it that we did something to cause it, refusing to take any responsibility and dismiss our concerns. They later refused to cover the towing costs to bring the car to their shop, refuse to fix the tires and replace the rim and finally leaving us to foot the bill for getting it back to us from Ballston Spa. It's a reminder to always double-check where you take your car for service and demand accountability for your safety. I can only assume this is an isolated event but when you make a mistake, you do what's right and fix it. We asked for nothing more than for you to redo the tires and replace anything that broke or is unsafe as a result of the tire coming loose and pay for the original tow bill. This should have never escalated. This is poor poor customer service.

when our friend mike told me that MICHAEL'S AUTOMOTIVE won't "screw you", that they do what needs…read moreto be done, without looking for and finding a million things they insist NEED to be done, like RIGHT NOW, all in the name of the holy $$$.....that they are trustworthy, honest, and reasonable..... figured we would give them a shot. my '08 pontiac G5 was having an issue, and several other garages insisted it was a transmission problem, and refused to touch the car, instead recommending a tran$mi$$ion $peciali$t. i was heartbroken, then took our friends advice. it turned out to be a simple, 265.00 fix, since the great crew at MICHEAL'S AUTOMOTIVE properly diagnosed the problem. i was elated! turns out "little blue" (pontiac) is the third car i've had, where it is supposedly a p.i.t.a. to change a headlight bulb. every single other garage insisted upon a few/several hundred dollars to do this job, (on 2 other cars, one a prius) something to do with having to remove the front panel from the car. but waaaait, garages charge hourly, right?? not sure why/how a simple two bolts being removed warrants a 600.00 bill. a few garages in the past did the job at original quoted rate, but whined and pouted about it after the job was done, letting me KNOW they were doing me a favor by so doing. ('cos, you know, "we had to remove the front end off the carrrr!") michaels crew did the job quickly, and even noticed a detail relating to another light, which i was unaware of. they repaired it. with no whining. and they charged a very reasonable price. i am both impressed and thrilled. thank you, MICHAEL'S AUTOMOTIVE. you will see us again.

We love Jim's Garage. He has been repairing our autos for over a decade. His prices are always half…read morethat of other shops and especially of dealers. He is friendly and accommodating and does not shy away from a complicated problem. I no longer travel through Ballston Spa as I used to, so he is out of the way now - but we travel the distance to get the service. We trust him - he's a no nonsense kind of mechanic and keeps and eye on saving us money. When I forget that the muffler has a lifetime warranty, Jim reminds me. He could take advantage of us, and never has. I tell everyone I know that he is our preferred shop. He can be found helping random people who stop in and does so for free. He's just a real nice fellow and an excellent mechanic!
