Our hostel staff person suggested this place on our first day in Amsterdam and I'm so glad she did. Fair pricing, good portion size, super fresh and absolutely delicious food. It's a clean, but small place, with indoor and outdoor seating. The crowd and decor has a heavy hip and trendy feeling. The food really is the star here. Everything is perfectly seasoned and cooked. It all tasted extremely fresh and made with care. The caffeine options are also stellar. I think this is a chain in this area, but it felt quite unique. This is by far THE most American restaurant I have eaten at in Amsterdam, fast food chains included. When I walked up with my very European partner he waltzed right past the sign that said "please wait here to be seated" and I had to pull him back out; that's not something you see as often here. Amsterdam has a fairly casual dining culture and even at very nice restaurants you can pick a spot to park on their patio and a waiter will come out to meet you. We were seated quickly and greeted with loud chatter, clinking forks and glasses, and a retro playlist of the Beatles, Motown, Aretha, etc. Menus are all in English, you're greeted in English, and B&R accepts cash, pin, and visa-type cards. Hard to find a place that accepts all three here. The food came fast enough and was piping hot and delicious. I had a flat white that was pretty incredible. There are some tempting looking cakes in the display case near the bar but we'll have to wait until next time, there's tons of good food here. Despite the American ambience, the styling is still very European: cool track lighting, light wood tables, sparingly used jewel tones in lights and furniture. Although there are a lot of English-speakers here, it's not a touristy spot and it's not trying to pretend to be anything it's not. It works. I loved this place!!! My daughter and I made a special trip across town to have breakfast here before our day at the museum. The tomato relish that comes with the kiwi brekkie is TO DIE FOR!!! Pretty decent Americanized breakfast spot! This is what I was craving- many breakfast options! We shared a huevos rancheros and the French toast. The banana nut French toast was one of the most delicious brunch things I've had. It's not regular bread, it's a banana nut bread and sooooo good. The huevos were okay. Way too many black beans compared to everything else. Like 5x too many. And they weren't seasoned. This could have used a little salt and some fresh lime or something in the salsa. The food here is good for an ok price (kind of expensive if you ask me) but It's a good location and they have good eggs and pancakes so I came back. I know a lot of people say that in Amsterdam you shouldn't expect a good service but if I am paying I am expecting good service for my money & time. I waited one hour and 10 minutes for my food and at least 30 minutes for my order to be taken... They messed up my order and didn't even apologise and didn't even try to rush my food either. There was a famous restaurant reviewer sitting next to me, and his order was taken pretty fast and his food came first and everything seemed fine, but to costumers like us and other it seemed to take forever. Some people arrived after us and got their food and were done eating and left and we still didn't have our food. I had that the b&r special and my boyfriend had the Cubano sandwhich. It's something you can cook at home if you're into cooking. We were really here just to be served and to be outside for a change. I know people have had better experiences but this was mine and I am very picky about service and about food. So we could be that they had a bad day but it didn't seem like the case because they should have provided better service and handled it better. I'm still giving it three stars because the first time I came here the service was a lot better. I will still come back to enjoy the weather and sit outside (I still like what they serve for brunch) and maybe hopefully I can edit this review read more

This is the second location of the much-loved Bakers & Roasters in the Pijp, and let me tell you, the second location is as good as the original! The food was the same high-quality, inventive, big portioned goodness you know and love from the Pijp location. The staff are friendly and attentive. The interior is not quite as... atmospheric as the Pijp, but it's warm and cheery and they do a great job of keeping the cold air out with the door curtain, so don't be afraid of those tables near the door. It's not NEARLY as busy as the Pijp location yet... hopefully it stays that way :) But it's just as good. read more

The best brunch I've had in a while! This place is great because it's not very crowded. We did get there pretty early, so we may have just beat the rush. We were seated within a few minutes. The staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered the chorizo and kumara hash. The sweet potatoes add a nice touch of sweetness to this dish. I would definitely recommend. I tried some of the huevos rancheros as well and this was also great. Don't leave without ordering a dessert! The hummingbird cake was impeccable. The service here was incredibly slow and the food was only halfway decent at a pretty expensive price. We got here at around 3 and the server told us that it would be about 5 mins before we got seated and we wound up waiting over 30 mins before we got a seat. Not only that, but they actually sat the servers themselves down to eat (because they were closing soon) before they sat us. I've never seen that happen in a restaurant before. The food itself was okay at best. I wound up getting the pancakes and a chicken breast and the pancakes were incredibly sweet, sometimes unbearably so (I wasn't able to finish them) and the chicken was decent. Overall, I probably wouldn't recommend this place, as there are plenty of other places that you can go to that are much better. read more

Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and I will definitely be coming back many times more to Bakers and Roasters to get my egg fix! Love the variety of Breakfast options, my order of Green Shakshuka eggs helped replenished the nutrients I lost during a heavy bender over the weekend! They could do with more moisture but were tasty nonetheless! Ben ordered the Vegie Breakfast which had everything a vegetarian could possibly want! Eggs your way, brown toast, avocado, mushrooms, potatoes, halloumi and their home-made chilli jam (more of a sauce).
