Very cute little place. Decided to have brunch after a morning at a museum. There was a bit of a wait if you needed a table for two or more, but if you were dining solo you could grab a seat the the breakfast bar right away. I had the lamb hash, with yogurt and cheese. It was a flavorful dish with generous amount of lamb, and good flavors of herb in the yogurt and cheese. Also, I had the best orange juice I have had in Amsterdam at this place. Hands down THEE BEST breakfast place in Amsterdam. Firstly, we had to wait to get seated. They told us it would take 10 mins, and literally took 3-4 mins. Good thing about this place is that, even though it gets really jam packed, people actually come to eat and leave and not just frolic about and waste time. So even if you do have to wait to get seated, believe us, it's worth the wait and doesn't take long to get seated at all. Secondly, this was the FIRST and ONLY breakfast restaurant we have been too that actually served FREE glasses of water....we didn't even ask for it...server just came up to our table and started pouring water for us. Now this may seem trivial to some, but those of you who are from Canada and USA and other parts of Europe, where water is free will understand. Every breakfast restaurant we've been too during our stay so far has either charged us for highly overpriced and pompous bottled water or blatantly told us they don't serve free tap water....so for us, this experience has been bizarre because back home you automatically get served water or at least get it for free....so it was nice that they do that here. Anyway, on to the food. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and sublime. The bacon here is absolutely delicious...ALL meat on the bacon, NO fat and just sublime....Bakers & Roasters, along with Omelegg ( Nieuwebrugsteeg 24 1012 AH Amsterdam) have THEE BEST BACON in all of Amsterdam...but will give the edge to Bakers & Roasters because they gave me a ton of bacon..so, so, delicious. IF you're a bacon fein like myself, you'll love the bacon here. My G/F had the short stack pancakes with banana and blueberries and they were served exactly the same way you would get it back home in Canada or the USA....big, fluffy, warm and delicious. Also, Bakers & Roasters is the ONLY place so far that knows how to make coffee the right way. We are by far not coffee snobs at all but all the places we've been too so far, the Lattes my g/f has ordered have all been terrible and have all been served the wrong way (i..e serving lattes in a foam cup or cappuccino mug). However, at Bakers & Roasters, they served her Latte perfectly, 1-2 inch of creamy foam, great texture and taste and still hot coffee not cold or lukewarm....perfect latte she said, really happy. Overall, I would 100% recommend this place....good location, extremely friendly staff, efficient service, and most importantly absolutely sublime and delicious food with good portion servings. Let's set the stage. We were on the tail end of an Amsterdam jaunt, and needed some breakfast in a hurry before heading over to the train station. However, not wanting to sacrifice quality even in the waning moments of our trip, we took one of Flip's recommendations and headed to Bakers & Roasters, conveniently located not too far from where we were staying. This was just what I wanted. I don't tend to do such a great job of saying no to French toast, so when I saw a banana nut bread French toast with bacon, I had to give it a go. I'm used to French toast made with actual bread (brioche, challah, sourdough, etc, etc.), so having it done up with banana bread, something I view as more of a dessert in its own right, was quite decadent. Even so, the dish somehow managed to not be too heavy. With the accompanying marmalade, it was sweet and moist enough so as to not require syrup...and the addition of a couple strips of crispy bacon, well, who could say no to that. As for coffee, I had no complaints with my fluffy, strong latte. They don't necessarily make a big dramatic production out of coffee here, it's just solid and well-done. Good coffee plus interesting and satisfying breakfast/brunch items plus casual, pleasant environment plus reasonable prices make this an easy 5-star in my book. read more

Being a big fan of brunches, this was spotted a long time ago on Yelp (they are over 1 year in business when writing this). Finally had the chance to go there on a Sunday to test if the stories on Yelp were true. And I can confirm they are, every bit. I had the Navajo Eggs (Pulled BBQ pork, avocado, mango salsa & chipotle cream served with two poached organic free range eggs and hot buttered toast. My wife went for the large stack of pancakes. Both were very good. The Chai latte is also good, mentioned my wife. Ask for free tap water if you want. Two things to mention, you can't make a reservation so when it's crowdy in the weekend be prepared to wait a bit. Good thing is that you can mention your name to the host and he will add you the list, so you don't have to wait in line like an idiot. And when you are waiting, go inside and order a coffee at the bar to make it a more pleasant wait. Secondly, although the food is cooked like it should. Sometimes it would have been nice to have a little more of the common ingredients (bacon, meat) on your plate for the price you are paying. On the way out we ordered a brownie to go, next to the sit down and enjoy food with a fork and knive, you also have wide selection of pastries you can choose from. If you don't want to wait, you can also order to go. Find a bench or park nearby and enjoy your brunch in the open air. Where to start, when writing a review for this place.........Maybe I'll just keep it very simple and short.......hmmmmm not sure if I can but lets see: 1 Food - delicious! especially the classic Kiwi pie! I know out of all the dishes on the menu this probably isn't the healthiest one (neither are those eggs benedict, which are to die for as well!) but they never fail. And what makes this pie even better is the side of roasted vegetables and the homemade tomato relish.......one word "YAM" And don't forget the glutenfree cakes, or even better BANANABREAD!!!!!!! 2 Drinks - Amazing! Healthy juices, great coffee, free water or on friday's for lunch have a martini coffee, I can guarantee you that you will not be able to return to work but you will start your weekend very happy! 3. I love to cook when I'm on holiday, trying out the local meat, eggs, veggies and bread. Especially bread! but I wanted to get away from that this morning and sample some local fare. This place is fantastic. I'm a solo traveler and although they had a four person counter, I prefer a table. And they're in close proximity to the next table, though I didn't feel strange sitting 2 feet from the diner next to me. This place is a cozy feel, is a favorite for travelers witnessed by the number of bags that rolled by and I wanted everything on the menu. All good signs. But I chose the B&R special, it is everything you want for breakfast. (See pic) I added a capuccino and sat back and enjoyed-really enjoyed-breakfast. Don't worry about the food. Everything that was coming out of the kitchen looked delicious and Instagramable. The service is top notch. The wait was tiny. But the earlier the better it appears. I won't lie. I am not a fan of waiting for a table, especially for breakfast. It makes me cranky. So my review will be affected by the fact that I had to wait... The food was good. I will give them the credit for being one of the first places in amsterdam with the breafast trand and they are doing it well. The breakfast is really good. I found it a bit expensive (especially the coffee!) But it's ok. The place is really small and for me it was a bit too crowded. But the service. Ok. I was a waitress before. Sometimes you just have a bad day. But our waitress was just not nice. At all. Maybe she had a bad day. But it was not pleasant. I enjoyed the food, but since there are more and more good breakfast places opening up around the city I don't think I would return. Not worth the wait and the grumpy service. Found this place via some suggestions via the internet. Waited about 1.5 hours to get a table for 6. Got cranes into a booth meant for 4. Regardless of that our brunch was really good. Finally! I made it to B&R for brunch... or rather, they made it to me! I ordered 8 take-away brunches for myself and my friends to enjoy in the comfort of my house. I needed to pre-pay and was warned that brunch might not look as pretty as it would in-house but by god, this place does a good brunch and even after the travel from B&R back home, it was lovely. Note that they do NOT deliver, but you just need a willing (or indentured) participant to go pick up. The way things were packed was remarkably conducive to travel - think sauces in their own containers, etc. We did have some smoothie casualties, but I suspect this was because the gentleman from B&R had to run them out to us and a lid probably popped off. Apparently taxi drivers are not onboard with leaky, green smoothies in their car. I had the eggs benedict and also had a little taster of the banana bread French toast. The Eggs Benedict was lovely and well executed. The toast did get a little hard but that makes sense since it had to travel. One general gripe I have about EB in this city is that it's never on an English Muffin. I love me an English muffin, and I don't only mean my lovely, Anglo boyfriend. I just had a bite of the French toast and it's pretty much exactly what it sounds like - banana bread, dipped in an egg mixture and fried. For some reason I thought it would be different. I find the "eggyness" lacks because as a result of the density, the banana bread doesn't soak it up the way other bread does. If you like banana bread though, you won't be disappointed. Just going to flat out put it out there - overrated and NOT worth the wait! Came here on a warm day and the place was just steaming inside. The staff attempted to cool it down with an industrial fan but it was just too loud. The food definitely did take awhile (around 30 min) as a few other reviewers suggested - but it was just so mediocre I left quite unsatisfied. I lived in Amsterdam for years and good brunch places were few and far between 4 years later and I see it's exploded! I was excited to try this place that is run by a kiwi and a South American, we waited for a good while but it was fine as we were excited about getting a good quality brekky in. I ordered the eggs Florentine with bacon (gotta have bacon!) it was tasty but a tad too much Spinach which made the toast a bit soggy. Overall though it was plentiful and I really enjoyed my meal as did the others. The coffee was lovely and I saw lots of delicious cakes. For homesick Kiwis' this is a great place for some nostalgia kiwiana is dotted around the cafe in a stylish way and the staff were mostly from NZ. The only thing I'd suggest working on for the staff is learning some basic Dutch. One of our friends ordered a glass of water in Dutch and the waitress replied What?? This is the brunch place I have been looooooooong searching for. After coming back from Australia where they had very tasty breakfasts, I was craving something similar. And this place hit the spot. We had the veggie breakfast, huevos rancheros and eggs benedict, as well as various coffees, teas, milkshakes and juices. All were amazing. The service is attentive, the atmosphere is good (especially the outside area at the back, so nice) and the food was really, really good. This place is everything!!! Sincerely. My mom, aunt, and I stayed at a vacation home nearby. The home was great, but the location to THIS place was excellent. We were in town for a few days and ate here every. single. day. It was truly amazing. Everything is so fresh. Their Americanos and lattes (iced bc it averaged 95 degrees when we were there) were excellent and strong. Everyone, especially the American hostess from Ohio, was just incredibly warm and gave excellent service. Service could be slow at times because of the popularity of this place, but it just gave us more time to talk and enjoy our time together. The Eggs Benny is incredible, as are the pancakes. I got the eggs benny every morning with avocado, and I'm still craving them now. DEFINITELY make it here. Excited to review this awesome place as my first Amsterdam foodie review. One of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam, and a perfect one for when company is town, Bakers and Roasters is up there with the best of the brunch spots I've ever been in the world. If you are visiting Amsterdam and hoping for traditional Dutch breakfast options, this isn't really the place to go - check out one of the pancake houses (although you can visit those for all meals including dinner), or go to a boulangerie or bakery, because there are many of those as well. But in general, if you're into great, diverse food options - including healthier, vegan or gluten free ones - and a wide assortment of cafe beverages, fresh juices, or cocktails, this is seriously the best place to go to of them all. I've been a few times, the first time I got the Huevos Rancheros (crispy tortilla topped with organic brazilian black beans, melted cheese, two fried organic free-range eggs, avocado, fresh tomato salsa and sour cream. (v). You can add chorizo for 3 euro. This was an incredible meal, very very filling, but delicious, not super greasy, and everything was fresh. I also had a matcha latte, which was yummy (but definitely sweetened, for super-health nuts who would disapprove of that). The second time, I got the Power Breakfast (egg white scramble with organic brazilian black beans, brown rice, garlicky spinach, a scoop of cottage cheese and grilled chicken breast.). Again a huge fan of this - I have never combined egg whites, rice and cottage cheese before so this was a bit of a risky endeavor and it paid off perfectly. Definitely healthy - I could tell the rice was steamed and not buttery - but still indulgent. :) Of the other options, my friends shared their Vege Brekkie and the Kiwi Brekkie , and I would definitely order the Vege Brekkie the next time I go. Halloumi, avocado, hot chili jam... really delicious combo. Another note, when you walk in, you see all of their Baked cakes, cookies, muffins and other desserts - they are all made in-house and get switched up daily, I believe, and are worth checking out. I was very impressed when one of my friends had the genius idea of turning one of the fresh juices on the menu (The Green Juice - green apple, cucumber, celery, lime and ginger) into a cocktail with I believe vodka, and our server was happy to create this for her. Sacreligious though it may seem to regular juicers, it was delicious. Their other cocktails are also really great. My only "con" about the place is that it is very popular, so if you go on a weekend or another typical brunch hour, be prepared for about an hour wait or try to make reservations. The good thing is they do have a nice cushy waiting area right at the front, and the restaurant is big with a pretty enclosed patio area in the back, so once seated you don't feel super crowded or suffocated, and service is always quick, polite and good-humored. :) read more

The pancakes and maple syrup were also incredibly good. This place is on the pricey side as far as breakfast goes, but it was completely worth the money in my opinion. So many flavors and so savory and delicious that if I was on death row this will probably be the dish I'd request. My friend ordered the Eggs Royale and he absolutely loved it as well. We both split the Banana nut bread French toast as a "dessert" and of course it was phenomenal too! We want to order everything else on the menu now, but we're both so stuffed and satisfied. First, I was instructed to eat here via a blog post and a friend's recommendation. The atmosphere was fantastic: quant, cool, local, quiet and relaxing with enough bustle in the morning to not stress you out before breakfast. We even witnessed workers bring in fresh flowers to be cut in the back and put on every table. Little things like that do not go unnoticed and are aesthetically appreciated. Secondly, the food. Everything on the menu sounded appetizing. There is a wide selection of food if eggs and toast are not your ideal breakfast choices. They have salads, sandwiches, cakes, bowls, boozy milkshakes and more. I ate the Navajo Eggs: pulled BBQ pork, mango salsa, chipotle cream, two poached eggs and buttered toast. I am not exaggerating when I say this dish combined my absolute favorite foods to eat in one. The meal did not disappoint! I can go as far to say I would eat this dish every morning for the rest of my life. We even convinced the two tables next to us to order the same thing and they would all agree, the Navajo Eggs is one of B&R's best dishes. Lastly, the staff was accommodating and very nice. They spoke perfect English, which was quite helpful and it made for easy interaction. All and all it was an incredible way to start my first day in Amsterdam. Has success spoiled Bakers and Roasters? The word seems to be out about how good this place is. The prices haven't come down but it does seem to have become more crowded. The food is just as good but ordering ala carte has become more difficult. Just when I had it figured out how to get just what I wanted, two poached eggs on a potato hash cake the menu changed and added a note about how substitutions make made it too hard on the cooks. Last time I asked for the potato hash cakes I was told they only came with certain dishes and were not available separately, The reason being, that they were so popular everybody would want to order them and then there wouldn't be any left. Clearly the best address I'll remember of my short city trip in Amsterdam ! This place is everything a "brunch place" should be. The place itself is quite nice and trendy, you know, the kind of place you feel comfortable, and don't mind staying for a long time. Then, the menu is just perfect. You'll find a set of egg-based meals that will blow your mind. Personally, I found the "Huevo eggs" (or something like that) were simply amazing! I could eat that every single day. You have enough food, and it's delicious. Then they also have plenty of sweet stuff to eat, as pancakes, bowl of granola (truly awesome), fruits, etc.. but also some cakes we didn't had time to try, but seemed delicious as well !
