Bakersfield Auto Body is a place I would caution brining your vehicle in to have repair work done. When reading the reviews, it was touted that the service they provide was top notch. I brought my wife's vehicle in for repairs. I was met by Dave Dougherty. He examined the vehicle and took notes. Once everything was agreed upon, I returned and left the vehicle in their care. A few days later the vehicle was ready to be picked up. This was a day that it rained extremely hard during the rainstorm we experienced. When I arrived, I proceeded to sign the papers for release of the vehicle. I was met by Dave again along with the lady in the front. To my surprise Dave mentions the mirror on the driver's side wasn't done. He said he had to order it and that I would need to bring it back when it is delivered to the shop. I had to pause again and ask, "what do you mean bring it back?". Naturally I was surprised because he never communicated this over the phone to us. I was hesitant on leaving but since most of the work was done, I took the car. I waited for the car to be brought up to the front. I asked Dave where the car and he directed me to the parking area with the other cars. I ran to my vehicle in the pouring rain. My thought was "why not bring it to the front under the shelter?". Since the rain was pouring, I could not look at the work that the vehicle had until the next day. During my walkthrough during the day, I noticed scratches in the area that was worked. I was quite surprised as this was included in the repairs that were to be done. Quite frankly I am surprised they allowed the car out of the shop with visible scratches. Then I noticed at the top of the vehicle the plastic border had a huge dent, something that wasn't there before we brought the vehicle in. The insert where the driver side mirror is located had white residue. It was not cleaned at all. The sensors for backing up did not come on (and still hasn't to this day). I explained this to Dave, and he said, "well there are no sensors in the back". Had he done his research he would know that sensors are on the underside and embedded in the framework positioned in the front (2) and rear corners as well as the rear center (2). They are identifiable by small dots. They removed the rear bumper which told me they did not correct the issue when reattaching the bumper. He couldn't answer that, yet you'd expect these handlers do their research on newer vehicle models when making repairs. Even the vehicle's handbook tells you where to locate them. We immediately contacted the shop. We asked to speak with a manager. Catrina, the manager at this facility, empathized with us and asked that we bring the vehicle in and upon doing so to ask for her. I got there the same afternoon and Dave Dougherty was waiting while I pulled into the driveway. I mentioned I am here to see Catrina. He quickly brushed this off by changing the conversation. Instead, he goes over the work and agreed that none of this was done to the expectations of the body shop. He wanted to assure me that all the work will be done better than when we first picked it up. However, I was still adamant that I speak to the manager. Well, all he seems to care about it chatting about other non-relevant stuff. I was sent on my way as to say it was not necessary. At this point we had enough. How can we expect that if the repairs weren't done correctly the first time it would be done correctly the second? We contacted the claims adjuster and ordered a quality review as well as an investigation with their shop. We found another shop who by far impressed with their service. When you go into Bakersfield Auto Body, and you have all these girls working in the back behind the reception desk. Two out of the five were laughing and seemingly not engaged with helping me out when I came in. This wasn't just once instance; this happens on multiple occasions. When you call and ask for an update or progress on the vehicle, they tell you that you must speak directly with the rep. Any other shops you contact any other representative can tell you what the status is. They easily release that info to a claims adjuster anytime that person calls into the shop, but we are forced to call the person handling our vehicle back. Dave doesn't respond to calls right of way which is unprofessional. He made a joke (which we didn't think was funny) that the reason he leaves his voicemail message stating Happy Thanksgiving so that no one would call him back. Not something you tell any customer. The kicker for me is that a manager asked us to come and ask for her due to the unsatisfactory service we received with our vehicle. She never came out. The impression I got was she allowed Dave to speak in her place and calm the situation down. This is a display of unprofessionalism at its highest as a manager would have acted differently in this situation. read more
