These classes have helped my son become more social and these have also helped ME be better prepared as a new mom. It can be isolating staying at home taking care of a little one (and quite scary not knowing what to do as they grow). Starting with the staff, Marshall is our favorite. She is so welcoming and has endless enthusiasm for not only the kids, but the role itself. She is gentle and a ball of kind energy wrapped up in a tiny package. You can tell she loves what she does, as it shows with her care and excitement for the kids. I'm sad to say I don't remember the male teacher's name, but he is beyond kind with the kids. He's able to capture their attention, and they absolutely love him. He's so kind and gentle with all the little, and they love him for it. The owner, Ceevan, is so nice and hands on. You can tell he cares a great deal about the location, staff, and kids. He is not afraid to get into the mix and jump in with the kids when needed. The facility itself has plenty of parking, is clean and well maintained. The kids are entertained and enthralled with the activities, and are spent of energy by the end of the class. Each time we leave, a nap for both adult and kid is needed. Those early postpartum months can feel so overwhelming, and having a safe space with other moms in the same stages every week made such a difference. I loved it so much that I went on to the Rising Toddler class. My baby loves NMS, too. I yelled a lot, but more than that I had lost my joy and I just felt like I was drowning in my life most of the time. Working with Janet this summer was like a warm hug. I had read all the parenting books you guys. I knew a lot of neuroscience and child development already. I had been trying as hard as I could to be a good mom for as long as I can remember. What I DIDN'T know was how to show myself compassion. What I didn't know was that I was never going to be able to do better until I felt better and my nervous system actually experienced safety on a regular basis. What I didn't know was how to care for myself like I was someone who mattered too. It took me a while to realize that these coaching sessions were actually Janet mothering me in such a beautiful and compassionate way. She was holding space for all the emotions and fears and hurt of my parenting journey without a shred of judgment. She helped me to believe that I make sense and that I'm already a good mom. She helped me to believe that my children are good too and that their most extreme struggles are simply part of their journey, not something to fear. She taught me to identify what my body was feeling and what I needed so that I could get to a place of safety and truly show up for my children with presence and empathy. It was such a journey with many ups and downs but I'm here to tell you that I'm building trust with my children every day now instead of tearing it down. I'm responding most of the time to my kids' tantrums & challenges in ways that I'm proud of. I truly didn't expect to get so much out of this parenting class and a few coaching sessions but it turned out to be one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.

I recently enrolled at Conejo Valley adult education for a certificate program for office manager in order to get back up to speed in order to support myself after my divorce is final. It is a scary time... but fortunately for me, Chris Wilson has been my teacher for the first two classes in my certificate program. He is so thorough and makes sure every student knows what they are doing. I suddenly feel empowered. Because I am not just going through the motions. I am re-learning what I knew so long ago after many years. The class projects that he gives us proves to me that I actually know what he's teaching. I did not think I would be able to get back what I have lost. It is apparent that Mr. Wilson loves his job and he truly is rooting for his students and is willing to help them however he can. I recently had an early meeting with my attorney during class hours which I could not change. So I ended up being over an hour late for class. He was so accommodating and came to me during class break and caught me up on everything that the rest of the class had gone over that morning. Mr. Wilson has been my instructor for the first two classes for my certificate program. I can only hope that as I move forward, any other instructor that I encounter at the Conejo Valley adult school will be as knowledgeable, enthusiastic and patient as he has been with the entire class.
