Being a licensed cosmetologist, I was skeptical. I asked Cassandra if she felt comfortable cutting short, S2 wavy/curly hair. I needed it cut badly, as I was leaving town the next morning. Cassandra listened as I explained what I wanted my hair to look like/do. I felt in very capable hands with her. I had not had a previous haircut since October '25. She gave me, probably the best haircut I have had in years. So much so, that I don't feel it necessary to seek out the stylist I originally booked with. A great haircut is one in which I don't have to go home and "tweak" with my own scissors. That is what Cassandra gave me. I will definitely return to Oomph with Cassandra. She is wonderful!

We talked about my color and cut and Lauren was right on par with exactly what I wanted. She was very nice, welcoming and open to what I wanted. I started with unevenly colored hair, long root growth and old faded dye on the other bottom half. I was looking to be rid of the faded reddish color and start going lighter so that eventually I can have a much lighter brown. The color came out nice! It's a nice lighter brown and looks a lot more even. The haircut was just what I wanted, shorter and a little layering with texture. She gave me options of styling it and parting it differently. Very happy that I found this salon and a stylist I am happy with in Portsmouth! My fiancé will be going for his haircut there next week!

Initially I was a bit skeptical of balayage because when she first colored it in July 2015 it was not as blonde as I had wanted. However, Heidi explained to me that balayage is a gradual technique that requires multiple sessions in order to achieve your desired luck. They are in a temporary location at 201 Cate St. and thriving as they find a new permanent home. If you want to know more about the staff, look at reviews for Jessica Todd Salon dating back from Summer 2023 and earlier (I'm guessing here). You can look at some of the newer 1-star reviews on that business's page to find out why this talented team wound up moving. I hope some other clients come here to review the folx who really deserve the accolades! The entire team is friendly, down-to-earth, and the salon has great parking, great music, nice facilities, and even an adorable neighbor cat who visits from time to time! The prices are quite reasonable for the quality of work this team does. I see Aly every 6 weeks or so for root touch up, but we have also done highlights and balayages. I'm sharing this review today because I just came from the salon and I always get so many compliments on my hair and asked for information about my stylist! I also happen to care about the personality of my stylist; Aly is warm, generous, and happy with conversation or no conversation. She genuinely takes a personal interest in the quality of her work, and she gives a great shampoo massage!
