I will continue to scream from the rooftops that Balderdash' owners DJ & Chris, are the literal salt of the earth. I go to their estate sales a couple times a month and they are always sooo sweet to me and their pricing is so so so fair, especially the discounts that go along with each day of the sale. My sisters and I joke that we're spoiled with Balderdash prices and customer service whenever we go to another company's sale and leave offended by the stupid high prices. First off, maybe don't treat your customers like criminals or you might lose them! The general consensus about the way customers are spoken to before and during the sale is that these people are bossy and rude. Most of us are just average people shopping for fun or resale and aren't out to commit crimes. Secondly, prices are ridiculous! $10 per hardcover book, regardless of size/age, etc. I never pay these prices with any other estate sale company - $2-3 or maybe $5. I understand maybe an exceptional book here and there but when you have a huge room of books to move, price them to move. It's not an antique store. All in all, mostly a waste of time and gas driving to this sale. read more

I have been to many sales by Balderdash. Every time Peggy has be extremely rude!! Today, I was especially disheartened, because of the way she chose to treat my 3 year old. I was out in the garage looking then came inside. She followed me from the garage to the basement. I asked her why she was following me. She told me that it was to make sure that my son did not hurt himself or break anything. ( keep in mind we were in the garage where NOTHING could be broken!). As for him hurting himself, maybe she should have been worried about all the seniors that were walking on the slip stairs not my 3 year old (it was a rainy day). She also told me that if I could not make my son behave she would have to!! Now if he had broken something I would completely get it! But, he had not!! Obviously, this woman had forgotten what it is like to be a curious child, have children, or grandchildren. I believe in teaching my child new thing by looking at real life things. Basically, he was looking and touching things like everyone else!! Why treat him differently then you would any other person. read more

VERY WELL run and organized Estate Sales. These folks put in A LOT! OF WORK for your convenience, don't knock their first day prices, if you REALLY WANT IT, you'll pay it otherwise come back another day or 2 when prices go down. As always, buyer beware and do your homework. Balderdash should be the Blue Print of all Estate Sales. THANK YOU! . One must look at and from both sides IF they have a complaint. One IRK I see is parents who bring little kids and not watch them. Little kids are VERY curious and (as is their nature) want to touch and/or play with "X". My brother passed away in 2020 unexpectedly. I live in Florida and he lived in Waukegan, Illinois. I needed some company that could take care of cleaning out my brothers home and conduct an estate sale without me being nearby to watch over their progress. My brother and his housemate were hoarders. The house was an absolute mess. Balderdash went into that house, threw out anything that was trash, donated anything that could be donated, and sold what could be sold. It took them about a month to get through the whole house but I couldn't be happier with the result. They are reliable, trustworthy, and they even sent me some items from the house that they thought would be meaningful to me (my brother's baby book). I highly recommend this company. They saved me having to travel all the way up to Illinois to take care of this and that is priceless to me. read more

Absolutely treacherous company. Rude beyond compare. The only person that can make any type of decision is Peggy, her employees talk like they are fearful of her. Parking issues at most of their sales and they are just so rude. Their prices are ridiculous until they start discounting onday 2 and 3 and then prices become "normal". These people are out of their minds... I was out for a walk with my husband and kids and came upon their estate sale. My husband said he'd take the kids around the block while I ran in. Found a couple items that were an okay deal. Asked if the could set aside while I finished my walk, picked up my wallet, and came back. They took my name and number and one lady asked for collateral. I thought she was joking and I laughed. She continued to press and then I couldn't tell if the were serious. My confusion turned to shock when I realized they were dead serious. For my $2 in items they wanted me to leave either my 1) Apple Watch 2) my iPhone. Why in God's name would I leave an expensive piece of technology for a couple of used kids books?? Laughing I asked what assurance I'd even get it back. Their reply 'what assurance do we have that you'll come back'. They said if I walked out without leaving something my items would go back immediately. Super rude. And all around weird customer experience. read more

Incredibly rude staff. I attended a sale in RLB and had them hold several bins of toys and games while I went to the ATM. They permit 30 Minutes for an ATM run. I was gone approx 10. On my return I asked to check the games for all of the pieces. The cashier said no "once you hold it you are buying it." I indicated that of course that wasn't true since I'd given her no money and I'd like to check the items. She refused and raised her voice to me indicating that she "held it for me all this time" (10 Minutes) and I had to buy them. I declined and said I don't purchase anything then. She continued yelling at me as I left the site. I would not recommend this company to anyone. The deals may be ok (not great) but no one deserves to be treated so rudely just to get a bargain. These people are incredibly rude. I arrived at the sale 10 mins before closing when I walked up the drive someone walking out said to me look fast they are throwing people out of the sale. Sure enough as I walked up looked thru one garage some rude lady proceeded to tell me they were closing I needed to come back they had been there all day. Clearly she was not going to be there a second longer at the sale. If i hired them and they were that rude to people I would be upset. It was a beautiful home on Deep Lake Road in Antioch. I'm sure I will pass the information along so it gets back. Never use this business unless you want rude sales people selling your merchandise. read more

i recently had an estate sale in deerfield. after calling several estate sale businesses in lake county i decided on the balderdash collection because they do any size sale. and they do everything! they clean, price, setup, send emails out, advertise, etc. they will even get a charity to come and pickup items not sold (with an itemized list) and your home will be totally empty when they are through. peggy shorts is the coordinator and does an awesome job, along with her helpers. one word of advice...if you're thinking about donating or garage selling any items before peggy gets a look...don't...they will sell everything in your house!!! they are a busy group, so don't procrastinate. i would totally recommend these girls for anyone living in lake county!!! you won't be disappointed, trust me. read more
