    Chamber's Landing Beach
    Rebekah T.

In an effort to enjoy every beach we could visit in Tahoe, we packed a lunch and headed over to Chamber's Landing. I learned that there is a public beach next to the Chamber's Landing Bar, which we planned on visiting after we got a little sun and enjoyed some lunch. There were lots of families with kids, some dogs, couples and folks just enjoying the warm air and the cold water. After we were done we packed up our gear and headed over to the Bar for some live music, drinks and cocktails.

This is one of my favorite spots to go watch the sunrise in the morning. I'm usually the only person there and get to have the beach to myself. The gates are normally locked if you go early in the morning so I park on the side of the road or in a nearby neighborhood and walk to the beach from there. You can enter on the side of the gates as it is accessible to pedestrians but not cars (in the early AM). The sunset is as nice to watch from here but it's more crowded in the evenings. Highly recommend going here to watch sunrises if you're a morning person!

Reservations only to park at an empty dock? $15 for fries and a water? Forget this place.

It was my first lakeside camping at William Kent Campground and I wanted to catch the sunset.

If you bring a kayak or paddle board you can paddle just south towards Meeks Bay and tuck yourself into a number of smallish beaches if you want some privacy. When we have a weak winter and the lake level drops , you will have a very small 6-8 foot deep sandy beach area but we haven't had that for quite a few years. So the only thing you don't really get here is a big sandy beach but you do get a fantastic stretch of beautiful lake tahoe in a park like atmosphere with towering trees !!! Not too shabby!

Come to think about it, probably was overly cautious having bear spray within reach. Visitors must comply to safety rules and prevention. Supposedly fragrant items (e.g. soap, shampoo, etc.) are highly attractive to bears. Our assigned site (number 76) sits at the beginning of the loop. Surrounded by neighbors on all sides except one. Nearest restroom and dumpster is just two sites away. Potable water is accessible in front of site 78. Bear storage are included at each site along with a picnic table and a fire ring. Camp host will make frequent runs around the loop with firewood available for purchase. There is a presence of carpenter ants but was not a nuisance. Experienced hot mid days and warm nights in the month of early August. Ideal and convenient for those looking to visit various parts of Lake Tahoe and even neighboring city of Reno.

Traffic noise - mostly during the day - it dies down and night and did not disturb my sleep at all. Bathrooms are far - especially for middle of the night trips to the bathroom! You should know: The website map has the sites marked in the wrong locations - so I reserved a site that I would not have preferred. The lower sites are 1-3, they have views of the lake, close to bathrooms, but the most traffic noise. Sites 4 & 5 have decent views of the lake - they require walking up stairs and will still have more traffic noise. Site 7 has views of the lake through trees - close to the top of the stairs. Sites 6, 8 & 9 don't really have lake views - they are farthest from the road with the least traffic noise, but also have the furthest to haul your gear from your car.

Trailers are limited to 26 feet, and campers or motorhomes can be up to 32 feet. This campground is frequently visited by bears! Keep food and ice chests locked away at all times. Bear lockers are provided; use them, and keep them closed up tight. If you don't properly store your food and ice chests, you will most likely be visited by a ranger who may cite you, or a bear who will eat all your food. The bathrooms are small, just a few stalls, and you need to bring your own soap and paper towels. I didn't visit the showers so I can't comment on them. What I loved most was the access to a couple of forest trails (fire roads) right from the campground. They're dog-friendly as long as your pup is leashed, making them a perfect way to enjoy the fresh air and explore the surrounding woods. There's a trail to the beach, but dogs are only allowed partway; they're not permitted on beaches or dirt trails.

There are some differences between the individual campsites, so prior to reserving a spot, check with your group and decide what your priorities are. You can choose individual sites or make it a party and book in the group camping loop. Each site features a water spigot, picnic table, bear locker, fire pit with grill, and concrete parking slab. You also have access to park rangers and camp hosts that sell fire wood bundles for $10 in cash. The bathrooms are well maintained. The bathrooms near the campsites I stayed at (157 and 107) both were separated by gender and had two flush toilet stalls and two sinks. There are also a few outlets in each bathroom. There are separate buildings with showers that charge by the minute. They're a bit pricey (if I recall correctly it's $1 for 3 minutes). Be sure to bring your own hand soap as the bathrooms don't furnish any. This campground is located at a convenient 1/4 mile walk from the west side of Lake Tahoe. There are a bunch of scenic trails that take you directly to the lakefront where you can walk, run, or bike. Just be careful, it can be a little bumpy or full of sugar pine cones. The campground also offers a ton of free activities! You can get a free kayak and history lesson, a free day of cross-country skiing, group hike, or meditate under the trees. Sugar Pine Point is the perfect blend of civilized and remote. You're deeply entrenched in nature while having all the necessary modern facilities. This is a must stay but watch for bears!
