They've cleaned my fabulous, bright blue coat. This coat--a cross between something Madeline would wear and a goose-steppin' old school Colonial soldier's uniform, a slice of fashion heaven, a piece that makes men and women envious alike--had gum on the ass area due to my protesting of Current (which involved sitting at the bus stop on 18th street). It was the second time I wore this coat. I was in pain. Could it be cleaned? Answer: yes, and organically too, girl. Baldwin isn't the cheapest ($18.00 for a coat) but for Old Town, that's an average price. And they're located one block from my office. I use them for everything--sweaters, suits, dresses and, as you know, coats--and my clothing comes back clean, fresh, never damaged, never smelling funky, never lost, never lingering with the ghosts of whatever things I did in it before I took it in. I used Baldwin's for many years and then moved to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. Well, I could not find one dry cleaners in Rehoboth who did not ruin some of my clothes. I buy very good quality from Eileen Fisher, Talbots, Nordstroms, and this was costing me a lot as they ruined elastic stretch in pants, left spots on items, shrunk silks, etc. I visit friends in Alexandria, VA, so I started taking clothes once a month when I go over back to Baldwin's. And I am so happy. I have not had one thing ruined now in past 3 years. Everything is done perfectly and if I do question something like a broken button, they will fix it right then for me. Very accommodating. And they have a wonderful seamstress too and I have used her a few times now to shorten sleeves and hems. All done to my satisfaction too! read more

I LOVE Baldwin Fabricare! Everyone I work with complains about their dry cleaners...not me! Baldwin's is organic, environmentally friendly and people friendly! They also do fantastic alterations. I have absolutely no complaints. They recognize me, know my name and they decorate for the holidays too. I have never had buttons missing or any other problem (I generally take 1 or 2 suits a week, plus 1-2 pants and shirts.) The prices are a little higher than your el-cheapo cleaner ($9.95 for a ladies' suit) but you get what you pay for. I was fortunate enough to have them recommended to me when I moved here and I haven't been anywhere else. Try them, you'll never go anywhere else. read more

They did a great job on my comforter as well as my husband's heavy winter coat. They didn't get a stain out of my wool winter coat, however. Same trend with clothes: they do a great job on my husband's, decent job on mine but not for the price tag. Part of it might be that I wear a lot of silks, and his clothing is mostly cotton, poplin, tweed, etc. I will definitely keep sending my husband's stuff here but mine go elsewhere. read more

Terrible Customer Service I've been a Baldwin customer for years, spending $100s per year. But when they broke a zipper on a dress and I asked them to cover the repair (a total of $12) it was like they had never seen me. Three employees spent 30 minutes arguing with me about it. I asked them to cover half ($6) which they agreed to. But when I went to pick up the dress they said they wouldn't cover any of the costs. I told them they were about to lose a valuable customer over $12. They were immovable- the definition of bad customer service. I won't be using them again. read more

I had high expectations of Baldwin Fabricare given the positives reviews that I found on Yelp. So far, my own experience has been less than positive. I took a suit to Baldwin and gave the clerk specific instructions about how the jacket's collar should be pressed (the jacket has a distinct guide stitched on the underside of the collar that indicates exactly where the collar should fold). Despite my clear instruction, the collar was pressed incorrectly. When I took the jacket back to have the problem corrected, it was pressed incorrectly again, exacerbating the situation. I am very frustrated, and my frustration is heightened because nobody at Baldwin seems to speak fluent English, making it nearly impossible to communicate towards a solution. read more

Baldwin does a nice job laundering my husband's shirts. I've had mixed experience with my own clothes. I took two dress shirts there and asked Baldwin to pay special attention to the sweat marks. Baldwin did not get the marks out the first time, but it redid the shirts w/o charging me and mostly (but not completely) removed the stains. The prices are high for women's clothes ($7 for each dress shirt). read more

So...I really wanted to go to a green dry cleaners and all of the reviews sounded wonderful for Balwin. I started going there and was a customer for 5 months. However, after recently picking up a shirt I noticed one of the cufflinks was missing. Unfortunately, I did not see that it was missing until after leaving the store. However, I brought it while dropping off the next load to hopefully find that it was found at the store. Since I had the shirt and the cufflink I thought it would make it easier to find the match. I gave my information and got the clean dry cleaning then stated that I was missing a cufflink from a previously picked-up shirt and is it possible that the other was found in the store. She began by stating that customers are supposed to remove the cufflinks before giving them the shirts. I have never been told to remove cufflinks and I have brought that exact shirt there several times. Also, there are no signs in the store stating that this is the poiicy. She then started to ring in the clothes I was dropping off. I asked if there were definately no extra cufflinks. She then went behind a wall and looked through a box that I am assuming was filled with cufflinks. She stated that she couldn't find it and tried to keep ringing me up. I then asked if they had a policy because now I have to buy a new set of cufflinks. Mind you at this point she never apologized or stated that she was sorry that my cufflink was missing. She looked in the box again and then asked another employee came over. The employee looked at the shirt then stated that she remembered that exact shirt and she put it in a bag and stampled it to the exterior of the plastic. Really? She remembered the exact shirt and where it was stampled. Then how come there is a box that contains several cufflinks that were not found? Also, I would have remembered an extra paper bag on the outside of my dry cleaning. I stated this and insisted there was nothing she coud do because she remembers this exact shirt. I do recycle the plastic and the paper receipt and separate them each time in the recycling so...I don't think I forgot. Anyway, no apology and basically told tough luck. Considering the prices are super high...I'll take my business somewhere else. It costs too much if I have to start replacing items in my wardrobe. I found somewhere down the street and they already were super friendly and offered to fix a button on a jacket that was getting loose. However, I will wait until I see how the clothes look before providing a recommendation. read more
