When I first arrived to the area, White Pearl's ratings were high and I decided to give the business a go. Their staff is friendly and personable, the work is timely and wonderful and they would ensure that different fabrics may require different needs. Also protective coverings were added to the buttons if they were more elaborate which I very much appreciated. Delicate or ornate were handled with great care! They would take time to ask by what timeframe did you needed items ready. Similar would verbally share if their hours changed or when holiday dates were in effect. I have also had a few items altered with much satisfaction. Prices are decent and I have not been disappointed! I would highly recommend! read more

This place is down the street from my apartment and I love how it's a mom and pop store. They both speak really good English and friendly. They don't advertise that they dry clean duvet and pillow cases. I recently went to get and they did a great job. They do a great job on men's shirts and pants too. Update 01-07-2019 I recently went to get the same duvet cleaned here but I guess since it's the new year they want to upcharge the price from $35 to $40. I dropped them on in good condition and when I arrived to pick up my very large order... they stated they didn't clean 2 shirts and had red tape over gigantic holes in my shirts. You know, dry cleaning is expensive. So if you have to pay for it, you'd better find a place that does it right. I have had several experiences with this place and have always been satisfied. I once took my denim for hemming and they did a good job. Also, a couple of my expensive sweaters, rain coats, and a comforter have be cleaned and de-stained perfectly. This is a good spot. Reasonable prices, friendly and fast service, expert tailoring and advice. I take my dry cleaning here, and I've gotten dresses and pants hemmed here as well. They sew loose buttons back on for free with dry cleaning. Only downside is closed on Sundays. I've always had great service at White Pearl, but my last visit was a huge disappointment. We dropped off a comforter, duvet cover and 2 sheets ($40 for the comforter and $120 for the sheets and duvet cover = $160 total). When I went got home, I realized the sheets and duvet cover smelled terrible (like vinegar)! I went back to talk to them and requested that they refund us $120 for the 3 items that smelled - I did not want them to rewash the sheets, just wanted my money back because I can do laundry faster than they can at my apartment. I don't have spare sheets and it's inconvenient to have to keep going back. At first they said they wouldn't refund us anything because "the work was already done". Eventually they agreed to refund us $40 and insisted that THEY rewash the sheets because they don't think the smell would come out any other way. I'm not sure what they did to make the sheets smell bad in the first place. :( First bad experience I've had here and how they handled it was a huge let down! If you return an item to a customer smelling WORSE than it was when it was dropped off, you should give them their money back (especially when they're not even asking you to rewash it)!! Not sure how to feel about White Pearl. They've always been pleasant, fairly priced and quick to return items. This was a complete shock! read more

Lesson: Don't drop ANYTHING off at this place without getting a price for each item and review it carefully before leaving items. Really upset. Dropped off an evening gown for dry cleaning. It had 2-3 stains at the bottom (mud) but nothing extraordinary. The dress had some pleating on the sides. It was long. The price on the cleaning receipt said "to be calculated." I had my husband drop it off, so I didn't think to ask him if he asked about the price. I didn't imagine what would happen next!!! I went to pick it up and the man helping me said dry cleaning for the dress was $60. I was aghast. I said, why?! How can this be so much?? How much is a typical evening gown cost to DRY CLEAN!? He said, the dress took a lot of work to clean (I guess because of the pleating?) and that was his price. He was nice - don't get me wrong - but he wanted to be paid that full price. In fear that there would be an argument, (which gets me no where any time I have issues with industry issues) I just said I wouldn't be returning. It was our first time to the place. He then said he'd drop the cost to $50. I still was pretty upset, I mean, that was 1/3 the price of the dress. So, was it my mistake to buy that gown? Or, did I get ripped off? I really feel the later. Because I was so upset, I stopped at my old dry cleaners and asked them how much to dry clean the dress. They said $25. They said usually it is 12.50 to clean a dress, but the pleating made it an issue. Still, they did not quote me $60!!!!! I mean OMG! Really. In the end, paid $50 to dry clean a dress, unbelievable. I really want my money back. Know that will never happen. Just won't go here anymore. Recently dropped off a blazer, gave no second thoughts trusting their judgement after numerous cleanings, trouser hemming and friendly encounters with Brian and many associates. Came back to find sleeves rolled up sewn together vents completely closed as if cuffs had fake decorations. Spoke to Ellen the matron/seamstress that charing $35 to turn cuffs of $300 blazer into permanently rolled up nonfunctional decorations was unexpected as I will now have to go to someone else to undo her work and redo cuffs. Ellen rolled her eyes, refused to listen, and threatened me to leave. After I explained to a different associate, Ellen charged me $25 threw 5 bucks on the counter saying "Go! Are you happy now?" Let me tell you about my journey with regards to working with cleaners in Northern VA. I first used a handful of cleaners in the Ballston area when I lived there... they all sucked - all five of them - and they will remain nameless. Ripped shirts, crap sewing jobs, broken English, you know the drill. I then found White Pearl... and the heavens opened up. Angels began to sing. And my shirts were perfectly pressed and sewn. But then a sad thing happened - I moved to Alexandria, worked in Reston, and was too far from the divine White Pearl Cleaners. I started using cleaners in Reston - they started losing my shirts. Instead of broken English I got ebonics and excuses. No more, I said. I went back to White Pearl even with a 40 minute drive in traffic. I had to return home. I then moved to the Tysons area and am close enough now to use White Pearl because I'm in Arlington a lot. I love these guys. They're fast, efficient, nothing ever goes wrong. Above and beyond customer service. Brian is a great guy and consistently goes out of his way to make his customers happy. His service is fantastic! He is very personable. From my first visit, I was able to tell he has good relationships with his customers. I like the fact this is also a family business. He listens well and gives advise in when needed. I left with the feeling that Brian really cares and is a true professional. For example, I ripped the zipper on my favorite dress as well as spilled quite a bit of vodka and cranberry on it. PS- it was a white dress. Every other dry cleaners in Arlington tried to hustle me and charge me $45 bucks. For a zipper I know my half blind Nana could have put on for $5. However I'm not longer in the Bronx and my Nana can't remember my name,but that's besides the point. I liked the fact that Brian was real and didn't try and make any false promises or try and hustle me. Brain said it would be no problem and the price would be like $5.00 with dry cleaning. SCORE There are several other dry cleaners that are closer but I won't be going anywhere else anytime soon. The tailoring service was great. The zipper was flawless. Returning again is a no issue. Generally, these guys had been great. Friendly, with good workmanship. I had a bad experience the other day, though, and I thought it's worth letting you know how things can be less than perfect here, too. I dropped off two dress shirts to get washed Thursday afternoon, asking for them to be ready Friday afternoon. I wasn't sure I'd wear them so soon, but I had a pending formal work meeting that could've been scheduled at any moment, so I did need them available as soon as possible. One of my shirts had a stain, but I had the shirts wadded up when I dropped them off, so I had to work my way through the wad of fabric to find the stain. As I did this, the guy taking my clothes--not Brian--became impatient, even though there were no other customers waiting, and said they'd find the stain when they'd wash it and stuck a strip of their stain marker tape randomly to the front of the shirt. I went to pick up my two shirts the following Monday. Now that they were nicely pressed and hung, I noticed the stain. Another worker--again, not Brian--was working the register that day, and I showed her the stain. She looked at the fairly small stain and, instead of immediately offering to try again, suggested it was a misplaced thread on my shirt. I was quite sure I wasn't just now noticing a misplaced brown thread on the front of a white shirt that I've had for two years. Okay, she said, they could give it another shot. She took the shirt and handed me a claim check and, without asking me if I needed it sooner, informed me my shirt would be ready Thursday, three days later. Certainly if you have to redo something, your default should be to get it back as soon as possible; when you regularly offer same-day service, that would mean the next afternoon. I wondered if she defaulted to three-day without asking because I'd asked for same-day service on my original order and picked them up a couple days later. That would be still be poor customer service on her part, but I don't know why else she'd think a three-day turnaround on a redo was appropriate. Anyway, they still get three stars because of the workmanship on past alterations and past cleaning. And, of course, for Brian's service. If this experience turns out to be a fluke, I'll update this review again. But I was really disappointed this time. Between this and a recent issue a friend, who I'd referred to them, had with shiny marks around the seams of his slacks' back pockets, I might still go myself, but I probably won't actively recommend them anymore; their quality seems to be slipping. It's so hard to find a good dry cleaners...and this place was definitely not it. After taking my dry cleaning there about three times, they shrunk a pair of pants. The next time I went in I told them about it, and they proceeded to laugh and make me try them on to show them I was not lying. They were very disrespectful and denied that this was them. In fact, they told me that doesn't happen in their shop. They were not expensive pants, and even just an apology would've made the situation better. Instead I got bad customer service. I had a favorite white shirt which had stains on the collar which I hadn't been able to get out fully and had pretty much given up on, but for $2 I thought I may as well try one last attempt to get clean and Im so glad I did. The shirt was a few years old but came back looking brand new. I also took some dress pants there to be take up a little and they also did a great job with this so its not just cleaning this place does well. I've been coming here for about two years now, and have always had a great experience. Everything (hemming, buttons, cleaning, etc) is perfect, done on time, and with great customer service. I don't think it's the cheapest dry cleaners around, but it's not unreasonable either - I go to the Tranquil Space yoga studio next door - yogis get a small discount. Parking isn't an issue since I park in the Tranquil Space lot next door, so it's super convenient for me. Anyway I'm super happy coming here - I've lived in Arlington since 2005 and have tried a number of cleaners in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor, and this is the best! read more

Here, customer service reigns supreme. Last week, they found a hole in one of my shirts. They offered to hand stitch it for free. When buttons fall off, they sew them on complimentary as long as you pay for dry cleaning. Incredible attention to detail and Brian has to be the friendliest person I've ever met working at a dry cleaner. I received a coat from my sister for my birthday in the mail and somehow during the shipping, the box and coat got damaged. The coat had a huge stain (about the size of my hand) on the back. Since the coat was expensive and a treasured gift, I really wanted to make sure I put it in trusted hands and am so glad I found this place on Yelp! I brought in my coat and Brian reassured me that he was confident he could remove the stain without damaging the coat. He also said he wouldn't charge me for the services if he wasn't able to remove the stain to my liking. I appreciated his honesty and willingness to take the time to thoroughly inspect the material of the coat and stain. I got a call from Brian a few days after (earlier than expected) that the coat was ready and I could come by to inspect the coat. I was beyond thrilled to see the condition of the coat when I picked it up. Stain was completely gone, coat was nice and pressed. Having moved out to the Arlington area recently, I'm happy to have a found a go-to place for my dry cleaning needs. There's limited parking space in the small lot but I haven't ran into any trouble. Definitely one of the best dry cleaning places in the area. The prices are pretty standard but the quality is great. I've taken a few shirts there with wine stains and every time they have been able to get them out. I also plan on taking some dress pants there this week to have them hemmed and am confident the result will be perfect. What really sealed the deal for me was that the first time I went the owner was behind the counter, said that he didn't notice me and asked if I was a first time customer. I left my pants to get it dry cleaned and when I went to collect it the owner said that my pants was not cleaned due to a bleach stain. When I replied that it did not have a bleach stain at the time of drop off the owner replied that he doesn't know who did it. Then he explained that they hire a subcontractor to do the cleaning and that the subcontractor might have been responsible for it. This is unacceptable and I hired White Pearl to do the cleaning not their subcontractor. While I demanded/expected for White Pearl Cleaners to take full responsibility the owner basically said "no sorry I don't touch I don't clean". When I asked to talk to Brian, they said that they don't know when Brian will return. I can only assume that Brian no longer works there. My friends, my girlfriend and I have always recommended White Pearl; however after this poor customer service I will not recommend this to anyone and I will share my horrible experience. I have been coming here for years because I loved the service. But this all changed yesterday - I am not going back. Several months ago I brought in a Banana Republic skirt to tailor. I specifically bought one size up to be able to tailor it, because the smaller size was too tight (although it was on sale!) The lady who does the tailoring here made the skirt too tight - actually, just as tight as the size I did not buy originally. I tried the skirt right there and told her it would not work - I could not wear it so tight to my office. She said there was nothing she could do and showed me to leave. So, the next time I was at this dry cleaner I spoke to Brian (who is excellent at customer service) and told him what happened. He said he would give me a credit for the $30 they charged..which I appreciated although I still could not wear the skirt. Yesterday I went to drop off my winter coat for the dry clean and said that I should have a $30 credit on my account. The lady at the register went to talk to the manager, Brian's father as I understand. He came out and told me that his son was too generous with credits and I had to speak to the seamstress. When she came out, she demanded that I explained what was wrong. I told her about the skirt and the credit and she said I had to bring the skirt back in. I told her that I did once already and she told me at the time that nothing could be done to fix it. She refused to discuss further, said it was my fault because I agreed to that, and said there wouldn't be any credit. So, I left and am not going back. The best part of this ordeal is that they wanted to charge me $40 for the coat's dry clean. I went to the dry clean next door to my apartment (which was always more convenient, but I was loyal to White Pearl, so drove there for years).
