Wow what an amazing place! The moment I saw that juicy black pork/beef kebab in the window, I wanted it so bad! And it did not disappoint. I don't think the young lady responded to me calling it a kebab, but she was wise enough to suggest the bun to go with it. It's wrapped up nicely so you can pick it up and walk around. No unnecessary spillage of juices. I then went back again and got just the kebab piece to go with a hot dog for my kid. I'd rate the kebab higher than the sausage.

Balkan has been my go to place for European smoked sausages and meats. It's a small little meat shop in MJT- Marche Jean Talon. I believe they smoke their sausage on the South shore. The selection is great and the meats are always fresh and delicious. Top notch smoked sausages- loads of selection of Polish Kabanosy - you can have fresh, more smoked and different levels of dry sausage. The summer sausage is sinful and delicious. The knackwurst are great on the grill in the summer! The only downside here is usually there are only two people working the counter and there can be 3-4 people in line. So patience is needed as service can be a bit slow. However it's worth it for the delicious sausage and meats! If you are in need of Polish, German Eastern European meats it's a great place! Prices are reasonable.

Tried these sausages and grilled meats at the Jean Talon Market. You can have alone or as a sandwich. You can add mustard if you want but be spefic which mustard (we wanted brown but got yellow). The sausages were especially good and crazy juicy - juice will squirt all over if you're not careful (and we weren't). read more

The woman who served me was incredibly friendly. I ordered a sausage sandwich with mustard and sauerkraut. The bread the sausage was on was too dry. The sausage itself had good flavor but the sandwich didn't work. read more

Two words for you: Bacon Sausages. They don't taste intensely of bacon but the flavour is smokey and subtle and delicious, especially on the BBQ. On the weekend Balkani sells hot little baskets of homemade sausage and saurkraut - super yummy treat, especially when it's cold out. Inside there is a small meat counter with several flavours of homemade sausage and dried meat sticks, and an upper level with all kinds of Polish products including chocolate covered plums and a variety of perogies. read more

Loved this stall in the Jean-Talon market. Offering a mixture of Slavic and Eastern European goods, Balkani delivers in such a satisfying way. The mici here (a ground beef, veal, pork, lamb meat roll/kebab), was phenomenal. A friend of mine from Bucharest always talked about the street food in Romania, but I cannot say I've come across this crowd pleaser of a dish until now. The kebab/sausage was so juicy, spicy, smoked. Served atop some mildly crunchy and vinaigretty sauerkraut, then perched on a simple hard roll, it made me wonder why in the world we settle for simple processed hot dogs. Why...Ever! For less than $5, this sandwich was a great value and had amazing flavor. Don't miss it!! And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to find a plane ticket to Romania. read more

This place was so good. I will definitely be hitting it up whenever we are at the Marche Jean Talon. I got the saucisse piquante on a roll with sauerkraut and whole grain mustard. My buddies go the mici served up the same way. Delicious!!! read more

We ordered the smoked meat trio and the poutine with smoked meat. The smoked meat trio includes a sandwich, cole slaw, and water. I've never had Canadian smoked meat before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it would be a lot smokier, but I'm glad it wasn't. It reminded me of NYC corned beef sammies. The poutine with the smoked meat was also great. This was definitely enough food for two people, especially since the poutine is so heavy. We actually thought we ordered the smoked meat plate, which includes all of the items from the trio, plus a pickle and more french fries. When we asked them about it, we realized that we probably just ordered the wrong thing. However, they brought us out some extra fries (which we definitely didn't need), but it was really nice of them to do so. It was a nice textural change from the gravy-soaked fries we had been eating. Overall, it was a great meal - but definitely not something that I could eat that often.

The smoked meat was salty, oily and expensive, the poutine wasn't the best either. Such a small portion that was expensive, probably because it was in a tourist area. Don't think I'd eat here again unless I can't get out of the older montreal area because there's other places much less oily and more reasonable.

All drinks were very good except that the coffee was lukewarm. I had said I only wanted a coffee if it was piping hot and we told it would be. Other than that, it was a fun experience as they offer games to play at the tables. It was clean and the barista was nice.
