Once you've entered Place St. Catherine, you're completely out of the main tourist district which is nice if you want something more authentic as opposed to overpriced and themepark-like. Viva M'Boma is small, clean and has an understated elegance in its simplicity. It's apparent once you see the menu that you are there to experience something you wouldn't normally get at most places that label themselves food-centric (they specialize in organs). Not only is the menu eclectic; they deliver hard core with flavors that are savory, intense and exquisite. For the starter we had Kirr with cassis as an aperitif that accompanied an order of pan-seared calf's brain in a beef boullion with onion and garlic, and a fois gras in a very traditional presentation. Both were outstanding and a good prelude of what was to come. We placed the second order once we finished our starters so that we could carefully select the next delicious offering as there were so many awesome things to choose from. I was tempted by the Pot-au-feu, essentially a stew of beef cheeks, oxtail and marrow, but was swayed by the waitress to the solomillo of horse, cooked blue and with a glass of St. Emilion. Yep, it was incredible! The meat was cooked expertly and the pairing showed of a true professional. My better half had veal cheeks that were stewed in beer and fell apart when you so much as touched them with the fork. This dish exploded with flavor and left us wanting to lick the plate after it was done. We finished the evening off with a house-made speculoos ice-cream (gingerbread) and caramelized apples... Pretty F'n awesome! We really enjoyed the experience, hospitality and knowledge of this establishment. We never felt rushed and all our questions were answered kindly and consummately. If you are in Brussels and are looking for something truly special, masterfully prepared and unlike anything you normally indulge in, please visit this place and stay away from Rue des Bouchers.

So the waiter comes out like 10-15 mins later (yes..they're quick) with this medium pot of mussels but honestly two people can probably share a pot. I actually think you're supposed to share them but since I'm vegetarian I told my sister that was all on her. And....she still had that big glass of beer to slam. Anyway, the crème brulee was ok. Not the best I've had and really nothing overly special. My sister fully gorged herself on the mussels pot and felt bad for leaving a few in the pot. I told her that to just let go and let god because I could see that over-stuffed miserable wince in her face and she didn't seem to like the painful reminder that her big beer was only half gone. It used to be a garage (I suppose ?!?) and they turned it now into a lunch place. They used second hand furniture and even the plates are old vintages one. The decoration is really cool. What I like about the place is that it is very easy-going. You can just go and have a coffee with your kids, work a bit, have a bite, etc. The food is also very good. There is only one menu a day, and it changes everyday. You can pick the small or the big menu ( 2 or 3 courses). Everything is organic and fresh - and you taste it. It's an open kitchen so you see them cooking. They have local brussels beer and they know what they're talking about. The restaurant is connected to a second had bookstore "Pele Mele". So it's fits perfectly the concept. Best thing about the place: it's not expensive at all !!! I will go every time I am in Belgium :)

This is one of the few restaurants open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner. Serving fresh local produce in a relaxed communal atmosphere for very reasonable prices, they do not take reservations and the wait for brunch can be 30 minutes or more (in Brussels this is considered an extremely long wait)! We went to the newer and larger second location, which looks like an office building or private residence from the outside, except for the signage in the window. It's serve yourself buffet style, with dishes that change every half hour. For brunch there was an assortment of five breads, including brioche, nut, sweet egg, and whole wheat, to croissants. Three types of jams, three types of butters, a pumpkin turnip soup, a mandarin orange endive salad, a sausage and onion casserole, a parsley oil tzatziki, tabbouleh, an assortment of cheese and fruit, soft boiled eggs, fresh ham, and for dessert a chocolate fondant with spiced whipped cream on the side. Je komt binnen in de grote hal en via de houten ronde trap ga je richting de huiskamer. Je passeert de keuken, wat altijd fijn is om even te piepen naar hygiene. In de huiskamer voel je jou meteen thuis. We werden snel bediend. Heel vriendelijke staff. Het meisje dat ons verwelkomde was zeer beleefd, goedlachs en aangenaam. Alleen voor de staff krijgt Les Filles al een plus. Voor 25 euro krijg je aan tafel gebracht een aantal tapasjes en twee voorgerechtjes. Vervolgens dien je zelf je hoofdmaaltijd te gaan bedienen in de "keuken". De gerechtjes zijn biologisch en seizoensgebonden. Twee dessertjes sluiten het overheerlijke menu af. Bij het eten hoort ook een drankje en hiervoor heb je keuze uit een heel assortiment aan lekkere wijnen, tevens biologisch. Les Filles wil een waar huiskamergevoel creeren & hierin slagen ze 100%.
